Upgrade your factory speakers

Are your car's factory speakers sounding a little flat? Replace them with these Sony GT Series speakers, and you'll hear the full impact of your music, along with lots of little details you may not have heard before. Bass will be punchy, and vocals will sound more lifelike. Your commute will be more enjoyable than ever before.

Better sound thanks to better materials

The XS-GT1338F 5-1/4" speakers feature woofer cones made from Highly Oriented Polyolefine, a lightweight material developed by Sony that's especially rigid and strong. Sony reinforces these cones with the same Aramid fibers that are used in bulletproof vests, so they'll stand up to high-volume playback. Each 3-way speaker features a 1" balanced dome tweeter and a 1/4" supertweeter that reproduce lively highs, adding in the details that make the instruments and vocals sound true to life. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 5-1/4" 3-way car speakers (pair)
  • Aramid-reinforced Highly Oriented Polyolefine (H.O.P.) woofer with cloth surround
  • 1" PEI balanced dome tweeter and 1/4" PEI dome supertweeter
  • grilles included
  • power range: 2-35 watts RMS (230 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 60-24,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 88 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-13/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

I bought these speakers for my rear doors in my chevy blazer, with the brackets and wiring harness that came with them made the installation quick and easy. The price was fair and the shipping was guaranteed for 3 days and they arrived in 3 days at 11:00 pm. Wishing I would have gotten a little bigger speaker but these work just fine. The sound is crisp and clear and they sound great. Overall I'm happy with these speakers!!!

Pros: Quick and easy installation, great quality sound.

Cons: None that I have found.

Easy to install in the soundbar of my '05 Wrangler TJ. I mean it took 5-10 minutes max from start to finish. I wish the Sony grills fit, but the factory ones are OK. Easy wire up with the included Crutchfield harnesses. These sound SO much better than the factory speakers! I put 4 X 6 Kickers up front and the improvement with these behind my head is stunning. Now to replace the factory subwoofer! Quality of these Sony speaker is really high. I've been using their components since the early 80s and all their stuff is still carefully made, packaged, and easy to use. Fantastic price for a great set of speakers.

Pros: Price, quality, sound, ease of installation

Cons: I wish I could have made the grills fit the Jeep soundbar!

These are great upgrades. I put them in my 06 Chevy 2500HD. Installation was easy, especially using the included instructions and adaptors. Crutchfield is great for supplying expertise and hardware and still keeping their prices within a couple of dollars of other online sellers that don't have detailed instructions or a technical line to call. These Sonys deliver crisp midrange and highs. Low end is adequate and as expected for a small speaker.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are excellent speakers. They have good clarity and they are efficient. I installed then in my dash being powered by the factory radio. Since I have a six plus sub setup I did not need or expect any bass out of them, I you need some mid bass I suggest you look at component speakers. If you have larger speakers providing bass, you will love the midrange and highs from these speakers. I brought them to replaces an excellent pair of Kenwood speakers that were 8 years old and were giving me some problems. These Sony speakers play much louder and I had to turn down the trebble a bit.

Pros: Clarity, Tweeters give strong highs,

Cons: None found or expected.

Replacements for the stock door speakers. The instructions were very helpful which in turn made them easy to install. Since I use a separate amp/sub, I installed condensers (a.k.a. Bass blockers) on these and the results have been FANTASTIC. I'm only pushing 15w-20w per speaker, but because all the lows are cut, they complete the sound spectrum along with my sub.

Pros: Great Sound and price.

These speakers have impressive sound for the price. Crystal clear highs and mids. I have them mounted in the dash and am very happy with them. Don't expect any real bass from these, but thats not why you buy these, they work extremely well to deliver clear & rich mids and highs in concert with 6.5" 3-ways elsewhere , and a sub to pick up lower frequencies.

For the price they cannot be beat.

I have a bmw 5 series and these speakers fit and sound great in them. Being only 5.25" speakers obviously they are not over the top good, but for the price you pay, they are well worth it. That being said, the speakers are not what really impressed me, what impressed me was the crutchfield customer service. In the first pair of speakers i received one of the speakers was actually defective, so I thought, oh crap I probably got screwed. But in reality I called customer service and within a 5 minute conversation, crutchfield shipped out a new pair and I was taken care of very quickly. So props to you crutchfield. and props to having great quality gear too.

Great stock replacement tiny speakers

Written by: Tilepusher from Las Vegas, NV on August 6, 2013

1993 Nissan Hardbody
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

How can you justify the sound of a tiny 5.25" speaker? You know that they are never going to have any kind of real bass. People who pay big bucks for a full range 5.25" speaker are crazy or crazy rich. With that out of the way, these are actually very good 5.25'" speakers for the money. I love the clarity & highs they produce. I am using them in the door panel of my 20 year old truck above the factory placed 6.5" Sony XS-GT1638F speakers. That's right. I have 2 sets of Sony 3-way speakers in the door of my truck. Because these speakers are so small in every dimension, I was able to fit them in the doors with just cutting the door panel. Since this is a work beater, I don't want to lose any cab space with a sub woofer or any kind of behind the seat box. For their intended use, for the money, these speakers are a great choice.

Pros: Small size, price, nice highs & attractive grill

Cons: Lack of bass

Put these in my 05 dodge ram. They are just a little better than my stock. but just barely. I know I could send them back but i've already got them in and dont feel like taking them back out. was looking for a good sounding speaker with a little bit of a bass punch (not booming). But these cant handle any bass at all. actually my stock handled bass better than these. I dont want to boom but i like a little bit of punch. I guess now i'll look for a small amplified bass tube. didn't want to go that route but now i have to.

Features

Woofers: The woofers are made of Highly Oriented Polyolefine reinforced with an aramid and carbon fiber matrix (HOP+ACFM), which is much stronger than regular polypropylene. Use of this material results in less distortion and better, quicker bass response.

Treated Cloth Surrounds: Each woofer uses a treated cloth surround for added reliability and efficiency.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1" PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced-dome tweeter; PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter. A 1/4" PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) dome super tweeter further reinforces the high frequency output. PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.
