Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very happy that this radio has been discontinued, so no other poor souls will have to suffer through my major pet-peeve about this unit. It has an annoying reminder beeping series sound when you turn off your ignition (power) without removing the face plate. I have no intention of ever removing the face plate, and I wish there were some way to eliminate this annoying beeping reminder. From what I understand, the only way to get rid of the beeping is by hooking up an external amp to this unit.

After just a few years, my auxillary input on faceplate is already failing me too. I have to slightly pull out my 3.5MM miniplug chord in order to "finagle" full stereo sound for all 4 speakers, and just hope I don't travel over bumpy roads that will make the plug fall out completely. That's just wrong...

Other than these two defects, I think the other features have served me well. I'll likely be purchasing a replacement unit in the near future, but will definitely steer clear from Sony brand because of the idiotic beeping reminder feature which cannot be manually overridden -- without spending more $ for an external amp. How could I possibly have faith in Sony engineering in my next car radio purchase? Sony TVs, okay I'm a believer!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ive had a creepy old 95 Saturn SL1 since my dad died and left it to me. I hated the stock radio so much I never even turned it on until recently, and then found it got so few stations and all sounded like talk radio..

So I decided to check out Crutchfield to see what would fit. My first surprise was the wonderful website. It was like walking into a great store and being met by a supersalesman who knew all about Saturns... knew what fit and what didnt. So I played the game and went by my budget of $500 and what a great surprise I had coming: I got a CD/MP3 player that got stations hundreds of miles away... speakers that gave me booming bass and great clear highs, good directionality...

First I got the Sony CDX GT200 CD/MP3 player. Crutchfield sent me not only the receiver, but all the parts and cables to make it fit... the housing, the power and speaker adapters, step by step instructions... the works. I ordered 6" speakers that directly replaced the speakers that came with the car... fit right in the same holes... with shortcut instructions that told me exactly which panels to pop and which screws to remove. Without these instructions I would have ruined my back window panel... and Ive probably installed over a dozen stereos in my various cars. I would never have seen the easy way to take things apart and install the new speakers.

Then I got the Audiobahn 10" subwoofer. Installed it so it sat right behind the small rear fold down seat. I can fold the seat down for maximum bass or leave it up if I have an extra passenger. Sounds great either way!

Everything fit perfectly professionally and no wires show, no panels needed cutting an

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am not a huge fan of Sony car audio to begin with, but I am Not a true audiophile either. Never the less, the Sony GT200 has the main features I did want in my new deck.

I needed the Front AUX input for my MP3 player, the 3 band EQ and Sub preamp output to easily hookup and control my Bazooka. I can really care less about everything else it has.

But it turns out the included remote is real handy. Mainly due to the fact that the volume knob when pushed, will scroll through the other settings. Well... alot of the time when you go to change the volume you can accidentally "push" the knob in. This gets you into the "settings", you thick your turning the volume up but your changing a setting, like the bass, balance, fader etc.

The main issue I have with this is I am driving down the road looking at the Road not the volume knob, so when the volume does not change I know I pushed it and I am changing settings.

So I use the remote 99% of the time so I can adjust the volume and keep me eyes on the road, not the display on the deck.

It has the preset EQ's which are worthless really, most of them don't have enough mid or high preset into them, so they sound muddy and lifeless. With the 3 band EQ you can just set it yourself to your liking.

It would be nice if the display maybe had a couple of color options, my factory gauges are orange and the deck is blue. I do wish that the display was Brighter, sometimes during the day it does get washed out, just fine at night though.

All in all I am happy with the deck and rate it at 4 stars. Mainly due to the knob issue forcing me to use the remote when I can reach the buttons just fine.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered this on Tuesday, got it today around noon! Thank you Crutchfield!!!

The installation instructions included were awesome!

The primary reason I purchased a new stereo was for the aux in capability on the front of the deck for an iPod - Absolutely worth it! Sounds incredible with my Toyota stock speakers. I don't know about the colors yet, my Celica has orange illumination and this unit has blue and red... But then again, that's just at night. I did notice a little more static on some of the local stations, but really the sound was clearer somehow, and I picked up more stations as I briefly used that function before plugging the iPod in :)

Overall, this is well worth the (low) cost!

Thanks again Crutchfield for the awesome service!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The basics on this thing are great. It plays MP3 CDs and has front-panel aux input. Also the control scheme is mostly intuitive, with a big lit up "Source" button, a bright screen and a slick volume knob.

But it has a couple of annoyances as well. The lesser of which is the beeping when you turn the car off without removing the faceplate. It's fairly loud and as far as I can tell you can't disable it, but I'll probably get used to it. The worse defect is its fast-forward speed. It doesn't accelerate, so if you need to get 30 minutes into a track (common for audiobooks), you'll be sitting there for 8-10 minutes holding the button, which is pretty terrible.

Just what I was looking for!!!

Written By Charles, Thurmont, MD on Wednesday, August 16, 2006

I just wanted a decent head unit that would play mp3 CD's and had acceptable FM reception. That's just what I got with the GT-200; nothing flashy, I was really surprised how good this unit sounded with my 10 year old stock speakers. The only con that I can find is the spongy feeling of the faceplate; it has a little too much give for my liking.

I don't want to forget to give kudos to Crutchfield for the fast shipping, ordered the unit on Tuesday and had it installed on Wednesday!! It only took a little over 1 hour, which included changing out the environmental controllers in the Escort.

Exactly what I was looking for

This CD/receiver was one of several that fit my needs. I read several reviews for each and this one was rated highly in the areas that I wanted most. Plays CD/MP3 media as well as some I don't use. It is easy to operate and sounds great. It also looks good in my car;)

Installed CDX-GT200 in 2001 Nissan Pathfinder SE

Written By Bob, Missouri City, TX on Tuesday, August 08, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder SE with a factory-installed Bose system. The six-disc CD changer which came with the tuner became inoperable, so I decided to buy a new CD player. After comparing products and features, I decided to buy the Sony CDX-GT200. Combined with the existing Bose speakers, the sound and performance of the system is excellent. The tuner is easy to operate, and offers several beneficial features, including an external audio input jack on the front panel to accomodate a music player (my iPod works flawlessly). The price is also very reasonable. For the most part, the installation was straightforward. However, I did encounter a few things perhaps unique to the 2001 Pathfinder SE. First, the instructions show the wrong pair of brackets to support the tuner sleeve (instructions that came with the kit show the correct pair). Second, you must connect the blue amplifier wire from the Sony harness to the OEM Amplifier Adapter (blue and white). If you do not, then you will not hear anything (I had to call Crutchfield support on this matter; they were VERY helpful and provided an answer in five minutes). Third, when you disconnect the existing Bose system, you will have five harnesses. The CDX GT-200 only has two harnesses, but fortunately they uniquely match up with two of the other five. Finally, the dashboard panel frame had a positioning pin that extended outward next to the upper left screw fastener. So, in order to install the mounting kit flush to the frame, you needed to drill a 1/4-inch hole in the left bracket. These issues aside, I am very pleased and would highly recommend the CDX GT-200.

After paying $190 for this product (and all the bells and whistles for installation) at a large retail chain, I looked online at Crutchfield and realized if I could install it myself, I would save $60! I returned it to the chain and did my first car stereo install thanks to Crutchfield's amazing service and easy install guides (for my '01 Honda CRV). The stereo works perfect for my needs. My factory speakers sound so much better and it's very easy to use with my MP3 player (iRiver H10). Not to mention it looks great! I would HIGHLY recommend this product (and Crutchfield). The only "con" is the alarm chime, but you get used to it.

Wife didn't like the red lights.
Volume dial is too sensitive to the touch and changes other sound settings easily.
It's worth the price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Sony CDX-GT200. As one other reviewer mentioned, they need to include a case for the face plate. The beeping alarm when you don't remove the face plate is also annoying. Others raved about the FM reception, but I am not impressed. It is significantly worse than the OEM Honda radio.

Awesome CD player and sound quality!!

Written By Luke, NY on Wednesday, June 21, 2006

I bought this for my sister's '99 Saturn SW2 wagon. She couldn't be happier with the install and sound quality. I bought new Sony and Pioneer speakers for it because I thought I might as well. For under $200 I got a stereo, and speakers! I had to turn the mid range and highs down to +1 dB because they were too clear and too loud with the new speakers. This is my third Sony stereo I've bought from Crutchfield and I continue to buy from them and send all my friends there!

I could not be happier!!! First, ordering was a snap! Second, it came in only two days! Third, it literally only took me an hour and a half to install. Now, I'm no brain surgeon. So, I scheduled my myself four hours (at least) to install. Imagine my wife's surprise when I came in the house after only 1.5 hrs!!! As you can see, I'm still kind of excited! I turn it on, it fires up and beautiful melodies start streaming out of my stock (Dodge Neon) speakers!!! I'm thinking, there is no way that a $130 car stereo sounds this good? But, here it is!!! Sweet! I highly recommend it. It even comes w/ a remote control which has come in handy when travelling. Cruthfield is great!!!!!

The "caution alarm" will drive you crazy! Unless you always remove the face-plate before pulling the keys (which I don't), expect the alarm to sound three times as you exit your car. There is no way to disable it. Very annoying. What was Sony thinking? I wish I had known it had this feature before purchasing. Crutchfield is awesome though.

well, the cd player's ok. very basic, very functional. i got this one because they were sold out of the one i wanted. i just needed one that i can plug my ipod into easily, and this one has front aux input, so that's good. but really, i'm just writing this because crutchfield is so freaking awesome! i've had systems in my other cars, but this is the first time i've ever tried to install anything. i bought a '84 cadillac deville on the spur of the moment, and the factory tape player didn't work so i just decided to replace all the factory stuff (new head unit, kenwood 4x6's, pioneer 6x9's). best buy, circuit city and a couple other places wouldn't pop in a cd player for me because it would involve customizing the dash (cutting and sanding about two inches on either side of the opening to fit an aftermarket unit), and i didn't want to go to a custom shop just for a cd player so i thought i would do it myself. it was incredibly easy, i can't believe i used to pay to get this done! as soon as my student loans kick in for next semester and i have some leftover money to play around with, i'm gonna buy all new audiobahn stuff and i'm gonna buy a couple of 15's for the trunk, and of course i'll install it all myself. for real though, i'm an idiot when it comes to mechanical things and electrical things and i pretty much know absolutely nothing about cars, but this was so easy. if you think you're not gonna be able to install something, i promise you if i can do it, anybody can. really. i'm a moron. crutchfield is like the greatest company there is.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield = GREAT Cuctomer service. EZ installation. The sound is much better than the stock deck. The only minor complaint is that when driving I reach to change the volume and push the control by mistake then mess up my other settings. I wish Sony would have not used the knob as a multi function knob. It plays my mp3 & WMA cd-r disks great - the display reads out the info. The radio reception is better than the stock deck.

I purchased the Sony CDX-GT200 to replace my factory radio in my Honda Civic. I had been debating what type of to purchase but I knew it need to have a CD Player. I saw the Sony and thought the design was great as well a the price. Once installed it was better than I had imagine. I love the sound and quality not to mention the remote that came with it. I order it on a Monday, recevied it on a Wednesday. I also love the fact that when I ordered from Crutchfield I received the Install Kit and the wiring for the vehicle as well.

Easy replacement

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit replaced a six-year-old Sony CDX-C4750 that was showing its age. I wanted MP3 access and an aux front-panel input and this unit worked out perfectly. The wiring harness was exactly the same as the old unit and all I had to do was plug it in. I'm running an old Bazooka 8" bass tube and it's nice to have the sub-woofer control in the head unit. The sound is excellent and the unit's functions are easy to learn. The FM sensitivity is noticeably better than the older Sony. The remote is quite good, though I wish they'd offer RF instead of IR remotes. This one actually works if fired into the rear of the truck cabin, but has problems when faced laterally... a minor annoyance.

Overall, I'm more than pleased with the sound and the ease of installation. With the front-panel input, I've tried a Creative MP3 player, the lineout of an old cassette tape player and the lineout of a notebook, and all work perfectly and sounded fine. The notebook output works especially well on a trip for enjoying decent sound from DVDs.

Good, for the price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well first off, if you're wondering if Crutchfield is an awesome company, they are.

That being said, this stereo is pretty good, for the price. I've owned a lot of different stereos (in the mid $200s) that were much nicer. This one is pretty basic. I bought it because I wanted an aux input for my iPod and this was the cheapest one out there that had it. Bass is a little weak coming from out of the system compared to the factory radio, but I still have the factory speakers in my system which could be part of the problem. I'll be hooking up my sub soon, for sure. As far as the brightness of the buttons and/or screen, don't worry about it. It's not bright at all. I had a Blaupunkt in my car once that was like a Christmas tree and a half. I'll be getting some Infiniti 6.5" speakers soon before I install my sub. If bass improves, I'll let you know. That's my only gripe with the stereo. EQ works pretty good, but no "Loudness" option.

If you're looking for a good stereo with a few sound controls, and an aux input, this is for you. No fancy displays, advanced sound tweaking here, but just the basics. (However, I might recomend throwing in an extra $50 to $100 if you consider yourself a wanna-be audiophile for a more advanced unit. You'll be happier in the long run... I just put the stereo in yesterday and I already wish I threw in the extra few bucks)...

Happy shopping!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I honestly never bought a aftermarket stereo thinking they were all the same, but needed to after my cassette player crapped out on me and my old paper stock speakers were blown and didn't work and I have a trip coming up which will involve alot of driving in my commuter car. So I sprung for this Sony with a set of cheap Blaupunkt speakers. Boy was I wrong about no difference. After buying it (along with the speakers, I don't know how I ever got along without a CD player. The volume even with no amp is deafening. I bought this as I really liked the features, such as the front AUX input to connect your MP3 player to and the front open face plate, (being able to load a disk without the front folding down), which is removeable of course. This is an AWESOME system. It plays my CDs, CDRs, and CDRWs without a hitch in whatever format I could use. There is an annoying beep to every key press, which I was able to turn off, and I dimmed the display a bit (seems there are 2 settings). I never have a problem with Sony products and this is another one I am way satisfied with. The buttons on the bottom for the presets are a bit small for MY fingers, but that doesn't bother me so much. The display is awesome and I can see everything on the brightest days. I plan on buying and using this same model in my other two cars.

Oh of course there is no one else to order from then Crutchfield. I am extremely satisfied with their service and all the instructions and parts they included with my order. Definitely worth ordering from them, and I would never recommend ordering car stereos from anyone else. The customer serivce and support are top notch. Thanks Crutchfield.

CDX-GT200 x 3

Written By VKMcVey, Houston, Texas on Thursday, April 20, 2006

I love my XM Radio - but hated having to search for "clean" FM radio station channels in order to listen using various FM transmitters. What good is great digital sound if you get static in the background?

So, I started searching Crutchfield for the solution; and tried the CDX-GT200, primarily because of its Auxiliary input and MP3 playing capability.

It took about 45 minutes to put into a Mazda B3000 pickup. And it worked perfectly! Very happy with it. Super clear audio input from the XM MyFi and, as an unexpected bonus, from another little SD-operated MP3 player, too.

So I bought one for my girlfriend's Ford Ranger to use with her XM Radio and Samsung MP3 player.

Finally, I bought one for my Dad's car to replace his casette player.

That's "Three" of these, for anyone that is keeping score. :)

(That last installation took about 15 minutes!)

Now, I'd love to see the next CDX model have a SD slot on the front so we could drop music directly into it...

fairly good...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The cdxgt200 is, for its price, fairly good. compared to my cherokees stock head unit, this blows it away. i bought this to use with my ipod, which i was using through a cassette adaptor. the sound quality was terrible, but when connected directly to the sony unit, the sound was clean and loud. the sony has better sound quality for all outgoing sounds, more bass, better highs, and played louder. the unit makes it easier to switch between cds, radio, and input. the att button on the romote is usefull when you want to turn the music down to a quiter volume. the remote is more useful than it seems. for $130, it is good. my only problem is that when fully attached in my dash, it sits alittle bit crooked. the beeping was slightly annoying, but i turned it off.

Installation is a cinch, even if you're a newbie

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Right now, there are 70 reviews for this unit, and almost all are raves. Well, who am I to buck the trend? I ordered online on a Sunday evening, unit arrived Tuesday morning. Even though the most I've ever done to my car is change the wiper blades (I don't even do my own oil changes), I still had it installed in about 90 minutes. My 96 Camry has new life, now that I've left the world of cassette tapes behind! And being able to cram a bunch of regular CDs onto a single MP3-CD is great. My wife plugs her iPod in, and I can play my Zen nano MP3 player without a hitch. What a great little unit.

It really is as easy to install as they make it sound. The guys at Circuit City told me a new stereo would probably blow my factory speakers. Maybe they're right - when that happens, I'll just order up some new ones from Crutchfield!

Great Price Great Deck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read the reviews and puchased based on so many positive write ups. I have the deck installed and it is great. Sound is great and more than loud enough. The display is very attractive and can be dimmed down a notch if you prefer. Best deck I have ever had in this price rang and if does everything it is supposed to with no trouble. With crutchfields wiring harness and instructions, the installation was one of the easiest I have every done. From start to finish I completed the entire install in an 88 Toyota Camery in under two hours which included time to solder the connections and trim the factory trim plate a little.
Very satisfied with the whole process.
I read in one of the other reviews that the preset buttons were a little small and I agree but I have big hands and have not had any trouble using them.

Much more than expected!

After 40 second wait for customer service and 20 second explanation from russ, it worked and I was outa the doghouse!

Pros: The GT 200 was exactly what I expected for a lower end cd player, but the customer service was exemplary and beyond what I would have expected from any company!!!

Cons: None!

P.S. From now on, anything that has to do with audio or video, will be purchased from Crutchfield, because GREAT customer service is worth the little extra they may charge!!!

Thanks Russ!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to replace the factory unit which would play CDRs, but not very well. I also wanted MP3/WMA capability. This unit fit the bill at a reasonable cost. It is nice to put in a cd with 9 to 12 hours of music using WMAs and 28+hours using MP3.
The Crutchfield website helped me a lot in making a selection.

Poor quality sound

Written By Kyle, Cleveland, OH on Monday, April 10, 2006

The receiver is just not worth the money spent. Sure it may sound better than your stock receiver, but it just doesn't pump out the same sound quality as the equivalently priced Pioneer or JVC models. Go with one of these instead. Thankfully Crutchfield has no-hassle returns.

I have messed around with quite a few head units. I am a very picky shopper as well. It takes me a while to decide on which one is right. I decided to buy through Crutchfield for their reputable speed and service. Reputation retained its truth. Also, it's cheaper than buying the unit for a lesser price somewhere else and not getting the accessories and practically a 2nd day delivery.

I needed a new unit to replace the dinky little thing Honda gives stock.

So the unit running through 2002 Honda stock speakers.

It took me a total of 18 minutes to install everything out of the box and into my dash (don't be alarmed, I've done this before).

Sony always comes with nice user manuals. However, to most guys, including myself, a user manual looks like toilet paper. I didn't have a hard time figuring stuff out. I did it during a short drive to the grocery store and back.

* Quality of Sound*
Granted that this is a lesser model of a Sony head unit(Sony isn't really reputable for being the best in this category in the first place), It wasn't bad. I have tested many genre of music through this receiver. I played several songs from: Rock, Alternative, Hip-Hop, Classical, RnB, and Electronica. Sony Xplod's naturally tend to pump up the bass. It wasn't too friendly with bass heavy hip-hop. When I went loud, it sounded a little fuzzy. However, this could be due to the fact that I was testing them through my Ipod through the Aux port in front. I could've ripped these songs too fast or something. The quality of sound dramatically increased in all genres, however. It was crisp and sounded good.

Problems with Sony CDX-GT200

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After installing and using the unit for a short time I began having problems with the front panel controls.Pushing the eject button would stop the cd but not eject it.Pushing the fast forward button during play would bring up the EQ menu.Unit would not turn off using the off button,etc.,etc.It seemed like the unit had just gone wacko. I tried the included remote control and all functions worked properly. I knew it had to be something in the front panel that was causing the problem so the only thing there is for the owner to do is clean the contacts where the front panel plugs in to the in dash unit. I used Cramolin brand contact cleaner(red) and followed that with the preservative(blue). Everything works fine now and I just wanted to pass this tip along in case others were having this problem.Actually this same problem could occur with ANY unit that has a detachable face so pass it on if you know anyone who is experiencing this issue.Other than that,Great Unit!I especially like the front (where it belongs) panel input which allows any device with an audio output to be used.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Sony CDX-GT200 is a great deal. I was putting sounds in a classic truck, and I had a custom install (in the glove box). I got the GT200 because I wanted to plug my iPod into something (in the case of the GT200: the front AUX-IN port), but I didn't want to spend big bucks to connect the iPod to something. In fact, I didn't want all of that fancy iPod interface stuff (like display and complete control on the stereo face). In fact (again) I wanted to have some controls active on the iPod (they would be disabled on the fancier models of stereos). I got the GT200, a Profile amp, and a pair of Blaupunkt 6x9s. It has turned out great. Especially the Sony stereo. I plug mu iPod in via a 3.5 mm stereo plug (you can get 6' or even up to 12' male-to-male cables at a lot of places other than iPod-specific vendors..and real cheap too) and everyhting works great. I can even close the glove box door on my classic truck and control the iPod volume and song selection via the iPod. Life is great!

Best stereo for money

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a 2005 Dodge Dakota with a factory stereo/speaker system that did not have a cassette deck, so I needed a stereo that had a cassette deck or an aux. jack so that I could use my Zen MP3 player. I opted to go with the aux. jack for the better sound quality.

Pros: This unit is priced like a basic stereo, but it has the features of a much more expensive unit. The FM reception and the CD quality are excellent. The pre-set EQ are great, as is the ability to modify them or to create my own. Many customizable features, which are easy to use. As usual, Crutchfield sent everything I needed to install. Free shipping was very nice.

Cons: Buttons are very small. Volume dial is recessed making it harder to handle. If you do not remove the face plate, then the unit annoyingly beeps everytime you shut off the car. The bass reproduction can be too much for my factory speakers. Layout for buttons could be better (too easy to confuse buttons near each other).

Other: Display is pleasant. Fits perfectly in my truck.

Bottom Line: I am glad that I bought this unit, even though it is a Sony. I would recommend this.

Sony CDX-GT200

Written By Zach, Washington DC on Wednesday, March 29, 2006

I ordered this unit when my stock cd player stopped playing cd-rs for some odd reason, but the CDX200 is an amazing unit. I'm all about sound quality, but I didn't want to "break the bank." I put in 4 of the lower end sony xplod speakers about two years ago, and they sounded great with my stock player, but now with the CDX200, they have such a tight/punchy sound. There is no need for a more advanced equalizer. This unit provides premium sound, and can push out way more volume than it is healthy for you to hear (and I listen to music VERY loud). All of the features on this unit work great. Burning mp3 cds is a breeze (just fill folders with mp3s and drag them onto the disc, click burn, enjoy). You can often fit entire discographies on one cd, and also just plug your mp3 player straight in with the AUX in on the front. The controls are very easy, good sized buttons and a very bright display, but you can dim it if you feel the need. I love the scrolling text for your mp3s that you're listening to, really just gives it that professional look. This is a solid unit and you can't get a better product for your money. Anything more than this is really overkill.

Awesome MP3 Player / Radio and Great Crutchfield Service!

Written By Chris, Newark, Delaware on Saturday, March 25, 2006

I ordered the product early in the morning, before going to work. To my amazement, the unit arrived THE VERY NEXT DAY. Fast shipping!

The Sony CDX-GT200 makes my old factory speakers sound even better than they did before. The sound is clean, bright and crisp, and there is plenty of room to turn up the volume if you want to. At a volume setting of 20, this unit puts out nice loud sound.

The unit plays MP3s as well. You can stack lots and lots of MP3 files onto a single CD and then play them in your car. I packed 140 of my favorite 80's tunes on a single CD, and it plays for hours and hours, without ever repeating the same song. Just amazing.

The radio on the Sony CDX-GT200 is able to receive more stations than my factory radio. The unit has 18 FM presets, which can be automatically loaded for you with the push of a few buttons.

Lastly, this unit comes with a remote. When I bought the Sony CDX-GT200, I thought that the remote was just a useless "frill" that I would never use. But I was wrong. When you are driving down the road, the remote is great to have in hand - you can jump to your favorite songs or albums, find your favorite radio stations, or adjust the volume, all from the remote. It's really great. I use the remote all the time.

I've had the Sony CDX-GT200 for two months now, and I love it. Now all I need to do is get some better speakers in my car, and then I bet it will sound even better. I highly recommend this product, and I also commend Crutchfield for the fast shipping and great customer service.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a fine player, chosen for MP3 playback and the handy aux input on the front. I am not sold on the removable faceplate as it seems a bit wobbly even when snapped into place. This feature is hard to avoid, though. The little red buttons are difficult to view and it would be nice if the lights faded along with the rest of the dash lights on my 1999 Corolla. A pause button is also missed.
The wiring harness worked fine (the wires were even the same colors) but I'd recommend shortening the wires a couple of inches to reduce the tangle behind the unit. The player does fit, but the factory bracket screws would not work. Fortunately, Sony provides four screws that do work.
It may now be necessary to buy new speakers! Does it ever end?

Product works great. Very easy to install on my 2001 Nissan altima. Most important thing is Crutchfield's customer support is awesome. From preorder inquiry, shipping inquiry, techsupport, they are all very nice and patient. Most important thing is they really know what they are doing !!!! Sounds easy but it is really rare to find a company like this. I am willing to pay for this kind of service.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo has exceeded my expectations. The stereo was a snap to put in with the directions from Crutchfield and the custom kit for my Jeep Grand Cherokee was a perfect fit, it looks like it has always been there. I really wanted a stereo that could play MP3's and WMA files and this Sony Stereo plays them perfectly. The remote comes in handy due to the small buttons on the stereo, I find myself always holding the remote while driving, it drives my wife crazy.... The Red display does not bother me at all either, it's a conversation piece..
The sound and quality from this product is awesome, I made the right choice.
I hope this review helps anyone who is also looking to make the right choice also.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had it for about a month and a half and I love the sound it puts out. It made my stock 6x8's sound like Pioneers! So when I installed 2 pairs of REAL Pioneer 3 ways...WOW! My wife didn't believe I would be able to install it myself, but it was easier than I thought. I called Crutchfield for one simple question I wasn't quite sure about, and the rest was all in the Master Sheets.

I mainly chose this unit because Sony's CD sound is very good. I also added an sub/amp from my prior car and with the GT-200 I can control sub volume from the faceplate. It's about the same as having 3 RCA outputs for less $$$! I don't need the front and rear, just the sub. I also like how the Volume/Push knob goes back to last adjustment that you've made, i.e. Fader, Balance, Sub...!Because I'm mostly adjusting the sub only! On other units I tried out I would have to go thru the whole menu(bass, mid, treb, fade, bal...)just to get to the sub control.

The couple of gripes I have with this unit is the RED button color is sometimes hard to pick-up in late afternoon. When it's in between dark of night and sunny day. Green or amber would be much better, plus it would most likely match the dash lights. Also, the tiny buttons have tiny lights to match! I'm getting used to it though. Those 2 gripes will probably be long forgotten down the road.

All in all it's a great sounding unit!

I bought this receiver for my wife's van when the Pioneer that was in there died. It is a good, basic unit. I like the customizable 3-band EQ and the CD playback is top notch. The only drawback I have found is that it is too easy to push in the rotary volume knob and accidentally change a setting when all you wanted to do was change the volume.

Great head unit. I purchased this to replace the factory radio in my 2003 Jeep Rubicon. I had a small wiring problem with my factory sub, I called Crutchfield, and within 5 minutes I had it fixed. This unit sounds more crisp than the original factory radio. I am still using the original speakers (7) that came with the jeep. Great price!!

I install it in a 2004 Suzuki Aereo it fit excelent with the Suzuki install kit that Crutchfield includes with the radio. The FM reception are the best I have senn in any radio. The sound quality are great. The only complain I found are the selection of the preset station, you have to run all the preseted station before you found the desired station and the buttons to find the mp3 folders are a little bit small.

I installed this receiver in my 1991 Accord. The love the way Crutchfield ships the receiver, cables, fit kit and detailed installation instructions (specific to my car!) in one box. Pretty easy to install.

I didn't want to spend much for a radio in this old car and I couldn't be more pleased with what I got for my money. It sounds great (I also replaced the ancient original paper speakers), it's easy to use, and I like the flexibility the front Aux input and the ability to read MP3 and WMA disks. I look forward to driving my beat up old Honda again!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Im not an audiophile, but I like this stereo. Some of the things that made me buy it were: 1) You dont have to fold the faceplate down to put in a CD, so theres less wear and tear over time (this was a problem on another model I had), 2) the aux-in jack on the front will let me hook up an iPod if I get one or a friend who has one rides along, 3) Mp3 CD playback, 4) I recognize the manufacturer, and 5) the price was good.

I love playing Mp3 CDs - you basically get a multi-disk changer by putting in one disk, and you get to see song titles, too. This player (set to the right display mode) scrolls the complete title for me - song, artist, and album, then settles back on the title. You can hit the scroll button and see it all roll by again if you missed it. Very cool.

I also like that a little graphic on the right side shows me my 3-band EQ settings. The auto settings work fine for me, but its nice to see it there.

Drawbacks: The first thing I did was turn off the annoying beep that plays every time you hit a button. At least you can turn it off. Im not crazy about the red color that it glows around the knobs, but thats no big deal. Lastly, I wish that the tuner had a radio data system. Ive seen this in one vehicle before - some radio stations broadcast song information as they go, and its nice if your radio can show it. It keeps you from trying to remember a few lyrics so you can Google it later and find out what that cool song was. But I couldnt find this feature in my price range, even though it seems it would be an inexpensive thing to add. Maybe in the future...

Overall, it sounds good to me, was easy to install, and is easy to use.

Great bang for buck

I didn't give it a 5 b/c of the dimmer issue and I don't like the beeps, but overall its great. I like one feature most people haven't mentioned, if you use burned CD's from Nero or another cd-text burning program, the song title is displayed on the face display. Lots of MP3 playing systems offer this, but don't play it up. I think its a pretty neat feature over the lower-end units.

installed easily in my 2000 Accord and sounds great with the factory speakers. Did not use cheesy plastic install kit but instead used the factory bracket that housed the factory radio. The harness was a breeze and intalled within 2 hours.
Gave it 4 stars because I wish the key button color was not red and came in a different color.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, I would like to give some credits to Crutchfield for on time delivery. It took precisely seven days to arrive here (west coast). Not to mention the price $129.99, which is similar to most stores (ex: circuit city, bestbuy) except they charged 36-40 dollars more pre-tax for wiring and harness. It took me one hour for the wiring in the darkness (yeah I have to do this late at night) plus 10-15 minutes for installment. The sound quality is pretty good, plus I have what I want, the "aux in" which is on the front. I have thought about Dual or Pioneer as well but after comparing the data in Crutchfield, my final decision was price>>quality>>design. Overall, Sony GT200 has what it's worth for. It does not look as good as Dual XDMR7700, but having 120 DB compare to 90-100 those of Dual or Pioneer changed my mind. Beside that, most brands don't have "aux in" feature at Sony's price. I don't plan to upgrade or installing amplifier, subwoofer, speaker yada yada so one pre amp output is enough for me. And again Kudos to Crutchfield website.

Easy to install.

I ordered this unit for the ability to play MP3s and you do not have to flip down the faceplate to put in a cd. It arrived and I read over the instructions. The instructions where simple and easy to follow. I choose to soldier the wires from the radio to the adapters. When I installed it into my 2000 Xterra the dashboard plate would not pop in. Found that the faceplate ring stands out a little. Took a pocket knife and mark the plate and then used the knife to scrape off some platic. After about 5 minutes, it all went together and the dashboard snapped completely in. The dashboard covers the part I had to scrape off and it cannot been seen. It took me about 1 hour but I soldiered the wires and the slight mod to the face ring. Looks great! It is like I paid the big bucks for some car shop to install it!

Awesome sound, GREAT value, all the features I wanted.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds Fantastic w/stock Frt spkrs and Pioneer 3 ways in the rear. Very easy to install, intuitive operation. And while Crutchfields price was not the lowest I found, once I factored in the wiring harness, install instructs, etc. they had the best overall deal, not to mention free support! I love the remote - it makes Vol adjustment very precise. While the Vol knob is conveniently located, it's hard to adjust volume one "click" at a time when driving. Appearance is super, much better than its photo, the gray face is a more pleasing charcoal and I was concerned the the red buttons would be too brite and gaudy, but they look fine. Only drawback is that FM sensitivity, while good, isnt as solid as some radios I've had. I am absolutely pleased and impressed with this head unit and it's a GREAT value for the price.

The Aux works great with my XM2go and my MP3 player. Looks much better than its photograph, the gray part face is actually darker and more charcoal and the volume knob is a very dark chrome. Can't beat the price

Written By Keith, Temple, TX on Tuesday, January 31, 2006

My little sister kept bugging me for a CD player for Christmas. I searched for a low price, quality product. I was going to get an alpine, but for less money this Sony also played MP3's and WMA's. I couldn't pass it up. With computers today, it's a nice luxury to put over 100 songs on one cd in MP3 format.

You might be able to get this model cheaper at your local Circuit City, but you won't get all the goodies that you need with it. I chose Crutchfield because of the included dash board kit, and the included factory wire adapter. These would easily add $30 to the cheaper Circuit City price. Free and Fast shipping helped seal the deal.

I hooked this up for my sister before Christmas, and I haven't heard any complaints from her since. It's now Feb. My sister is 18 in case your looking for a great gift for your high-schooler.

I teamed this cd stereo with a Rockford Fosgate one channel 300 watt amp, and a JL audio 10w6. It sounded great once it was all hooked up. If I had another vehicle, I'd purchase this for myself. I was impressed.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation was fairly easy. The instructions for the center console removal were right on the money. There were only 2 gotcha's. The first one is I couldn't get the installation kit to go back as far as necessary so it would be flush with the back of the dash so I could secure it to the dash. It currently sits about an inch away. However it doesn't seem to be that much of a problem. The roads where I live are by no means smooth and nothing fell out or popped off. The 2nd gotcha concerns the wiring harness. My car has a windshield antenna, but on the wiring harness there is a wire for a power antenna. It is actually for the amplifier, which I suspect are just powered speakers. The stock radio did not have a separate box for an amplifier. I could not get any sound until the crutchfield tech suggested that the blue-white wire was actually for the amp and that I should connect it. After I did that, everything was OK.

As others have said the stock speakers my car came with sound 100% better with this radio. I can get stations now that were only static before. There is one thing I noticed with the equalizer, if the midrange on any of the EQ settings is not 0 you will hear background noise which you may misinterpret as engine noise. Setting the midlevel range to 0 will eliminate this. You can test this out for yourself by setting the source to aux with nothing plugged into the aux jack and setting the volume to 1 or 2. if you adjust the midrange you will notice the noise gets lower as you approach 0 and louder if you move away from it. If you listen to anything that isn't to quiet such as talk radio or any top 40 station, you will not notice it at a

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For this price you can't go wrong. I purchased this system for my '99 Saturn SW2, I was getting tired of just having a cassette player, and cd/cassette adapters are horrible. It does everything as advertised; I just need to try the front aux input to make it complete. Radio reception is great, plus I love having all the FM presets. The MP3 capability is wonderful, 10+ hrs on one disc.

I took this player through its paces on some nice windy roads with a few bumps - no skips! I then tried some railroad tracks at some good speed - again no skips. You've got to like that. And with the free install kit (it's nice having a pocket above the radio to store small things and it still looks factory) I was up and running in about 30 minutes. I did cheat and put the wiring harness together ahead of time, another 15 minutes. The faceplate reminder beeps are nice when parking in some areas, malls, shopping centers, etc. I just need to upgrade my speakers now. My only gripe is I wish you could use your cars' dimmer instead of the stereos' for nighttime driving.

I highly recommend this stereo for the price.

Simply a great product for the money! The front CD slot and front aux input is a plus. The receiver is easy to use. However, it would be nice if the volume knob and buttons were larger, but this is only a minor issue. There are 2-3 beeps when the car is turned off, to remind you to remove the front control panel, but I find it not really an annoyance. The receiver is not satellite ready which is a drawback. Bottom line: I would purchase this product again.

So far so good

Written By Kevin, Beaumont, TX on Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Well, so far so good. Received my gt200 and all installation kits today for my 2003 Pontiac Vibe. Everything was easy to install and the instructions were clear. My only complaint is that the new adapter for the head unit doesn't fit as flush as the stock one. It seems to be just a little too tall and the bottom of the a/c plate didn't fit around it. Other than that I don't have any complaints. The player sounds great and made my factory speakers sound even clearer. One thing I did notice is that my sub isn't as loud as it used to be. On the stock unit I used a step down that had it's own level adjustment. Maybe a few tweaks of the gain on my amp will correct this, but it still sounds great. Never had a problem with Sony products and I'm sure I won't with the gt200 either. I would suggest this unit to anyone looking to make an affordable upgrade to their system.

I bought this stereo to replace the stock stereo in my '05 Scion xA. It was easy to install and sounds a whole lot better than the Scion stereo. It utilizes the six speakers better than my old stereo. The auxilliray input seemed to be the best option to listen to my iPod in my car. Most people seemed disappointed with the iPod adapters for stereos that would let you see the lists on the stereo display. Looks great in my car. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like this stereo -- it has some great features. But the first one I installed had defective controls. I'd push the "next" button, and it would go back instead of forward (sometimes) and sometimes the equalizer button would make it go forward, etc. Sometimes the buttons just wouldn't work. But the remote worked perfectly. I called Crutchfield and said I thought the detachable faceplate was defective. They said they'd send me a whole new stereo in case it was more than the faceplate, but if I just took the faceplate and it worked, I could send back the old faceplate with the new stereo body. That was perfect. The new faceplate works great, and I didn't have to replace the whole stereo. They made it easy to return the defective part, too. Great customer service!

Anyway, the stereo is good, but it won't play some MP3 CDs that have too many folders. It says something in the instructions about the limit on folders being something like 60, but the limit is much less than Sony says. I tried a CD with 23 folders, and it confuses the unit so it can't find most of the songs.

I do like that it has a front aux jack.

Awe-some! After ten (10) long years of listening to cassettes in my 1997 Saturn SL I decided to upgrade. Had I know how easy it would be to install a new cd player I would have done it years ago. Thanks to the fine folks at crutchfield for providing everything that was necessary I was able to install this player in about two hours, keep in mind I have never installed a car stereo before, which is part of the reason why I listed to cassettes for so long. Product is great no complaints. The remote is nice, but I am afraid that I am going to lose it. I do need to make some minor adjustments to my cars housing as I was unable to attach the player to the car, oh well guess thats why they make portable drills. The cd player in my wife's car (2002 Saturn VUE) is starting to crap out, no doubt that I will be replacing it with this product and of course ordering through crutchfield.

A great way to use my iPod or MP3 player in the car. Installation was simple, with the included instructions. I had the radio in and the car back on the road in about 1 hour. Now I can listen to Podcasts while I commute.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent stereo for the money, with excellent specs. It is extremely versatile with MP3 and ATRAC3 compatability as well as having an auxiliary input on the front of the unit. Being a relatively inexpensive unit is just icing on the cake. I would highly recommend this unit for anyone wanting value and versatility. Did I mention that it comes with a cool wireless remote?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted a simple stereo to put in my 94 Explorer that is driven by my teenage daughter. I was looking for easy controls, good sound, and the ability to attach a IPOD or XM radio. Although I generally don't like SONY products, I am very happy with this unit. It sounds great, was easy to install thanks to the excellent Crutchfield instructions and free custom installation kits. The front auxilary input jack makes plugging in the IPOD a breeze with a simple patch cable. FM and AM reception is outstanding, and it plays CD's and MP3s. For the can't beat it.

Sony CDX-GT200

I purchased this stereo as a gift for my wife's '97 Honda Odyssey and she loves it (as do I)! The display, colors, and controls look great and are easy to operate. I was a bit worried the buttons would be too small (from reading another review) but don't find it to be a problem at all. The system recognizes the songs on most CD's and displays the song title, or you can switch to have it show the track number. Another awesome feature is the Aux. input jack (mini-stereo jack). We have a portable DVD player for my son that straps to the head rest and it has a small little speaker that is overpowered by the noise of the car on a highway. With the Aux. input we can have the sound on the DVD movie play through the car speakers so everyone can hear, it sounds much better, and of course you can adjust the fader to put the sound only in the rear for the kids. I am very pleased with this system and the installation instructions from Crutchfield were excellent.
