Our take on the Sony CDX-GT570UP

Powerful sound

Sony built the CDX-GT570UP CD receiver around the same Digital Reality amp you'll find in their higher-priced car stereos. This unique amp design delivers surprising power combined with an accurate, deep soundstage so music sounds more natural inside your vehicle.

If you're a sonic tweaker, you'll have plenty of options. Sony includes a 7-band equalizer, digital time correction for sharp and precise stereo imaging, and DM+, which improves the sound of your compressed music. You can also activate the Rear Bass Enhancer which sends only low frequencies to your rear speakers, improving your bass and pulling the soundstage forward.

Sony CDX-GT570UP

Plenty of options

With that great sound comes plenty of ways to enjoy your music. In addition to a CD player with MP3 and WMA playback, the CDX-GT570UP comes equipped with front-panel auxiliary and USB inputs. You can plug in your iPod® or iPhone® to the USB port and enjoy control from the receiver, with nifty search tools like Quick Browzer and ZAPPIN that let you scan and find music quickly.

And if you're a Pandora® Internet radio fan, you can plug in your iPhone then browse stations or rate songs from the receiver's controls. You can add SiriusXM's compact tuner, and experience the impressive programming and coast-to-coast reception that makes satellite radio so popular.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Very nice radio for the money. You can't beat it.

I guess I expected the radio to sound as good or better than the original equipment Jeep, but it doesn't. After playing with the settings, which are right between easy and difficult to locate and set, it sounds 'good'. I suppose it has a little different sound, which might be my angst, but it is decent enough. The additional inputs (Aux & USB) are a huge bonus and a (working) CD that handles MP3's as well as the standards is awesome. I like the looks of the unit, was able to dim the display, FM has 3 x 6 (18) station settings (not 3 like some claim) [plus 2 x 6 AM for what they're worth] and an oddly named array of EQ presets. Using the Crutchfield supplied adapter ring, antenna adapter and Jeep (Dodge) wiring block made the installation perfect. I pre soldered (and heat shrinked) the adapter to the radio leads prior to installation, to make total install time about 30 minutes. Add an hour for the programming (which looks more like a journey than a destination) and it's a pretty cool rig.

Pros: Many updated features over the OE radio and looks a little better too

Cons: Not quite as great sounding as I had anticipated and difficult to change sound functions while driving.

A mediocre offering from Sony, with thin sound lacking in "oomph". The CD player skips easily and profusely when riding over pot holes. Making adjustments is clumsy, utilizing the volume knob. The USB connection doesn't support lossless file formats such as .wav or .flac, so you're stuck with crappy .mp3. You'll also have to format that USB stick in ancient FAT32, because Sony didn't bother to keep up with modern formats like exFAT.

Pros: Cheap. Easy to hook up.

Cons: Thin sound. Clumsy interface. Lack of support for modern digital formats.

Seems like a very good product. The instructions are necessary to navigate thru the different settings, and it was a little confusing for me, but overall a very good choice for the money. The additional parts needed to install the unit were right on, too. Made the install pretty easy.

Pros: Sounds good and a very good value.

Cons: A lot of navigating thru the settings, some of which I didn't understand.

Nice deck that is fairly easy to use and has a good look to it. Works well with the installation kit provided with it. Has that factory installation look.

Pros: Good options. 7 preset equalizer options to choose from or create your own custom sound. Display is bright (can be dimmed, if desired). Not too difficult to figure out all the settings and options. Pretty good for the money spent. The included installation kit and wiring harness adapter made installation a breeze.

Cons: Fade and balance are a bit tedious to get too through the options menu. A second dial or specific buttons would have been nice.

My old stereo was missing the right side channels completely. This one really fills the truck with sound. The pandora feature is clear as can be through my iPhone. Even at loud volumes. The kids love the remote control feature.

Pros: Clear pandora or my music from the phone.

Cons: Great sound, but not as clear with the FM tuner. I think it's a lack of clarity of the signal, not the radio's ability to perform.

It's a Sony for a low price with most of the bells and whistles. There should be more stars available for "Value". The 7 band EQ is a nice feature. I've still got some exploring to do, but it sounds very good in my 2004' Tacoma with factory speakers.

Pros: Value! All of the cons can be remedied with money.

For the price - awesome! It covers all the basics I needed. The integrated iPod/iPhone controls aren't anything special, but it's still nice to use them without much difficulty. Thanks to Crutchfield's efforts (installation guides, wire harness kits, etc.) installation is incredibly easy.

Pros: Affordable. Great upgrade form factory unit.

Cons: If you're the type who likes to tweak your sound (or any settings) regularly, menu navigation takes a bit of time and isn't incredibly intuitive - depending on what you need to do. If you're more the "set it and forget it" type, you're good to go!

Installed in a 98 Jeep Cherokee. Sounds good, picks up radio pretty well, plays MP3 CD's without issue and USB works. Made a very annoying sound when the vehicle is turned off with face plate on, eventually I got it turned off but was more difficult than it should have been since it was in a somewhat hidden menu. You have to turn the unit off and then push the menu button for a few seconds and then scroll through and find the caut alrm and turn it off. Overall i'm happy with the sound and function.

I had just about had it with the factory unit in my 2002 ford focus. I had it fixed twice and now the radio would cut out half way to work each Day..The price on this SONY was just right. had all the features I wanted, more than I needed really. The kit to install it fits great and it looks like a factory install. The whole job only took me about 30 minutes and I took my time!!!?? Crutchfield is great..this is my first time using them, but it wont be my last.

Pros: price, sound quality and looks really cool.

So, I turned to Crutchfield and got a much better (SONY) radio with a CD player and a remote control and all the parts needed to install it for less than a $75. And, your customer assistance team helped me to pick a radio that fit my vehicle. Keep on truckin' Crutchfield!

I installed this radio in 1993 Ford Crown Victoria. I followed the instructions provided and the installation was easy. In connecting the wires on the radio plugs, I decided to twist the wires together and covered the twist with a small piece of shrink tubing. All of the functions in the radio worked properly. The sound is great! I do not plan to use the remote. I believe this is a lot of radio considering the small purchase price. I would recommend this radio to a friend.

Pros: Good sound, good functions, good price and easy to install in an older car.

Cons: Comparing this radio to my old one, this radio will take some time to learn all of the new functions and which button to push.

As with most of the units on the market today it has many functions available once you figure out the steps necessary to access them. This unit is no more complicated than the rest, but it will take some time to get used to it. I would easily recommend this unit to anyone looking for an affordable upgrade.

Sounds great, controls took a little getting used to but they make sense. The only problem? Now my wife wants one.

Pros: Most of the features I wanted - accessory input, USB input, great sound, easy to use.

Cons: Not really a con - it doesn't have bluetooth, but then, it didn't say it did. If you don't have a hands free device already, you may want to go to the next one up that has this feature. Other than that, it was a GREAT buy, and Crutchfield's extras made it more than worthwhile.

This is a great budget friendly head unit. I have put this model in two different vehicles now. For the price it has a great range of features. The sound quality is excellent for the price. The DM+ really does a good job at restoring the sound quality to mp3 files. The Rear Bass Enhancer setting is great for turning the rear speakers into mids to add some bass.

    Pros: Lots of features

Cons: No Bluetooth or HD Radio

    Good value

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

XLNT radio, nice features, good sound. Small display and labeling hard to read. Good value and improved over earlier Sonys. Installation was very difficult due to cheap complicated mounting kit supplied by Crutchfields. Previously Crutchfields supplied quality accessories but now going cheap at risk of their reputation...Shame.

    Pros: value, sound

Cons: small display and controls. crappy mounting kit.

    Very nice
