Sony Xplod GTX Series speakers fill your vehicle with the full range of your music, as they deliver precise stereo imaging and strong soundstaging. Strong, lightweight woofers combine with a variety of midrange drivers and tweeters to attain a perfect balance between raw power capability and accurate reproduction.

The XS-GTX1641 4-way speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers, with cones made from a proprietary material that's lighter and stronger than polypropylene for better energy efficiency and power handling. These woofers also absorb unwanted frequencies, so the cones recover quickly from one note to the next, increasing clarity in the vocal range. Sony's unique treated cloth surround is light and thin along the inner edge for quicker response, and thickly reinforced around the outer edge to keep the cone in place during heavy use, which means better power handling and increased accuracy.

Each 4-way speaker takes care of the musical details with a 1-7/16" midrange driver, dome tweeter, and dome supertweeter. Sony blends these complementary elements together to produce well-balanced sound, from the lowest bass note to the highest cymbal crash. High-frequency response extends beyond the normal limits of human hearing, producing the overtones that make the instruments sound more natural.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Istalled these speakers after installing new X Plod receiver. What a huge difference! The sound that comes out of these speakers is truly amazing and I now see what I was missing. These are four way speakers and produce the full range of sound without amplification creating a much fuller sound with lower volume levels.

Pros: Fuller sound, smaller size perfect for doors and areas with limited space. Easy to install.

Great sounding speakers

Great speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted speakers that were great all around with the best deep base I could get without going to a sub woofer.

One word - PERFECT

Awesome sound when I finally got the radio adjusted correctly. I was wondering if the speakers where going to sound good after replacing just two in a VW beetle. The radio is a Dual XHD-6425 which didn't sound good until it turned everything on, especially the setting "LOUD". Once all four speakers were replaced it sounded okay, but not great. Adjusted the radio and ... BAMB.... The sound really pops through like I wanted.

WOW, it has the best sound I have ever heard from a system with just speakers and a radio (no sub or amp). Very deep base that vibrates the doors to my standards and crisp high tones.

These speakers are providing everything I hoped for.

If you are not getting the deep base and great tones, then I would not blame the speakers. Must be your radio.

Pros: Deep base Crisp middle and high tones

Cons: Nothing. Perfect for what I was looking for.

One of the best 4-way systems available...

As I stated before, I have never really liked 3-way or 4-way speakers, because they just never reproduce the music properly and sound no better (sometimes worse) than the factory speakers! These speakers, however, sound perfect...they are the best multi-way speakers I have ever had the pleasure of listening to! Each speaker is perfectly crossed-over, reproducing every single note & detail of your music, allowing you to hear things you may have never known were in the music! There are way to many people out there who buy 6½" speakers & expect them to produce a ton of low-bass, but they just were not designed or built to reproduce low-bass...that's what Subwoofers are for! They do, however, reproduce very tight & clean mid-bass, which is what they are supposed to do. That strong mid-bass, along with the excellent mid-range & high-range, combine for one of the best speaker systems ever built! What used to take multiple speakers to do can now be done with a single speaker, simplifying installation, amplification, wiring & the entire system as a whole! In a small 2-door car or truck, just one pair of these, a subwoofer & a 4-channel amp with the two rear channels bridged on the sub is all that is needed for an excellent sounding system! In a larger 2 or 4-door vehicle, two pairs of these (front & rear), a 2-ohm subwoofer (or two 4-ohm subs) & a 5-channel amp is all that is needed for a perfectly designed/sounding system...not to mention being extremely easy to install!

Pros: I generally don't like 3 or 4-way speakers, but something about these made me buy them! Of course, they don't produce much low-bass, but they weren't made to produce low-bass anyway. They do, however, produce a very tight & clean mid-bass/mid-range...plus, very crisp & clean detailed high-range vocals & instruments! The Woofer, Mid-Range, Tweeter & Super-Tweeter are X'd-over perfectly, giving the most & best sound possible from a single speaker! Add a Sub & a bridged 4ch Amp for a great system!

Cons: Even though they perfectly reproduce every single note & detail of the music, there is one thing I wish were different...I wish the woofer surrounds were made of Butyl Rubber instead of Treated Cloth. Treated Cloth is good & allows the speaker cone full movement under full control, it just isn't as strong or durable as Butyl Rubber. Because of this, the speaker may wear out prematurely, especially if you listen to your system loud & often. Be careful installing them, the surrounds can be ripped.

Easy to install, had to do some drilling but that is common since my car uses 6 3/4 speakers. great improvement from factory speakers, can be found cheaper on other sites. the 4-way system creates a great balance between highs lows and midrange.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Sony's are a replacement for 61/2" Infinity's. The Infinity's tore the foam woofer surrounds after two years of abuse. My criteria this time was power handeling. The sony's sound as good as the Infinity's did, and appear to be more tear resistant . The next two years will tell the whole story.

Features

Woofers: The woofers are made of Highly Oriented Polyolefine (H.O.P.) plus aramid fiber. Using high-tech fibers aligned under extreme pressure, Sony's exclusive H.O.P. is lighter & stronger than polypropylene. The result is greater linearity, smoother response, and better sound.

Stroke Stabilizer Surround: Sony developed the Stroke Stabilizer Surround to take advantage of the quick transient response and low weight of a thin surround, along with the superior back-pressure resistance of a thick surround. Radial ridges of thicker material are added along the surround, with the inner side handling the detailed strokes, and the entire surround resisting the back-pressure during higher power passages. This balance results in a speaker with high power handling, accuracy throughout the power range, and low distortion.

Midrange: Each speaker has a 1-7/16" PEN (Polyethylen Naphtalate) balanced diaphragm midrange for fast transients with lower distortion.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 7/16" dome tweeter and a 11/32" dome super tweeter for a wide soundstage. Both the tweeter and super tweeter are made of PEI (Poly-Ether Imide).

Mounting: The speakers can be mounted in a variety of 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings.
