Looking to give your favorite TV shows and movies a boost in sound quality? Here's a way to do it without filling your room with equipment. The Sony HT-CT660 features 330 watts of total system power, so it will have the air crackling with excitement, whether you're watching a Blu-ray movie, DVD concert, or ballgame on TV, or even playing your favorite video game. You get three HDMI inputs for high-def sources, making it easy to switch between your HD cable box, Blu-ray player, and game console. The sound bar is designed to blend right in with your 46" or larger Sony BRAVIA® TV. It sits on your TV stand or mounts easily on the wall. There's even an IR (infrared) repeater so if you're placing it in front of your TV's remote eye, the repeater re-sends commands from your TV remote — no need to stand up and aim around the sound bar to change channels.
The HT-CT660 includes a wireless powered subwoofer, which you can place conveniently just about anywhere in the room. It adds depth and punch to everything you watch or listen to. With this system's built-in Dolby® Digital and DTS® decoding and Sony's S-Force® Surround technology, you'll experience clear, immersive sound without lots of gear cluttering your living room.
This sound bar is fun even with your TV turned off. Built-in Bluetooth® means you can wirelessly play music stored on your compatible computer, smartphone or tablet. And if your smart device has NFC (Near Field Communications), then just one touch will pair it with the sound bar, so it's easy to fill the room with tunes.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.
I purchased this sound bar based on all the good reviews but ended up returning it. I was looking for a sound bar that would work well for both TV/Movies and Music (typically via bluetooth). I found this sub to have a decent amount of base, but it was very flat and muttled. The speaker bar itself was very thin sounding and without much depth. Vocals did not project very far without turning it way up (which is defeating the purpose... since i can do that with built in TV speakers). I tried every soundfield setting and many different sources and could never get this system to impress me. So i returned it and purchased the more expensive JBL SB400 which is light years better for not much more money, especially for music. This sony is not terrible, don't get me wrong, but don't expect to be wowed. Think of the sound quality from a midgrade set of computer speakers with a sub, that's about where to set your expectation here.
Cons: Sound Quality, available settings, remote control
When it arrived the box looked rough, so I immediately opened it to find the styrofoam damaged. I unwrapped the subwoofer and the plastic top plate was broken so I immediately put it back in the box and taped it back up. Now I have the terrible inconvenience of trying to return it. We'll see how Crutchfield customer service handles this. I'm very disappointed.
Pros: I assume it's a great product.
Cons: Poor packaging.Crutchfield response on July 2, 2014 The customer contacted us to set up the return and we promptly sent her a replacement.
I had moved an old Plasma TV (2005) with 1 HDMI input down to the base where there was no stereo to hook it up to. I wanted something easy, that could also replace the HDMI switching box I was using with it. This was the only soundbar I found that fit the bill. The sound is very good coming from the sound bar, much better than the TV speakers. However, it is not 5.1 surround sound, not that I expected it to be. I needed a stereo or similar to hear the TV when I workout, and the sound level on this is excellent. I can hear the TV over mt elliptical and my wife's treadmill. If you have limited HDMI inputs, this soundbar is the one to get!
Pros: - 4 HDMI inputs! - Good sound - Easy Setup - Bluetooth
Cons: - Limited Sound range, much better than TV speakers, but not 5.1 surround sound
Great sound and design.
Lovely sounding, does bring a surround sound effect to our bedroom of about 140 sq ft. Very crisp and clear, you have to fine tune the settings. As for adding this remote to my universal remote... Still stuck with the many remotes on this one.
Pros: 4 HDMI total, great sound.
Cons: Note free, cannot consolidate all remotes into one.
After doing some research on sound bars and asking a few IT associates, I received various recommendations. One person stated to just go to a local electronics store and listen to all the bars. I found the Sony to be extremely crisp and the bass was loud. Have no regrets.
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: Wish there was a way to display volume onto my Bravia TV.
For all those people who are still wondering on what home theater system/soundbar to purchase for the money and anything else I can think of this as much as I hate to use that phrase is a no-brainer this system far exceeds how good I thought it was going to be I wish the rating had 5 more stars to use I'd have used all of them thanks for reading
Pros: Too many to list just amazing sound for movies music I am listening to Fleetwood Mac now from my gs3 incredible it would have been great if it was available when I first bought my svt47xvt vizio
Cons: There aren't any
It's simplicity and easy set up makes is a huge plus. But if your truly into sound then this isn't the product for you.. I use this sound bar in a kids game room which does exactly what I need it to do without all the bells and whistles. Quality is just okay.sounds a little shallow and tiny for my taste but like I said it's for a kids video game room and does what I need it to and sounds a thousand times better than the tv speakers. If your using it for a second tv or a bedroom tv it's fine.. If your planning on using it as for your main tv I would skip the sound bar and go for the surround sound.
Pros: Easy to use and set up
Cons: Shallow sounding, not enough depth
I wanted to replace a home theater surround sound system when the video output of the amp started to degrade. Since I was only using the system for watching TV, I thought the sound bar solution would be simpler, but only if the sound could be acceptable. Well, I could not be more satisfied with my Sony HT-CT660. It let me connect all my devices with HDMI cables and still enjoy the bass of the subwoofer which is wireless. My wife was thrilled not to have all the speaker wires "concealed" around the tv room. And the sound is really very good. While not true surround sound, it can be selected to produce movie or news or music enhanced sound. I am very satisfied with my choice and credit the wonderful Crutchfield staff with recommending a reasonably priced solution and quickly walking me through the set-up. This was my second purchase from Crutchfield, and I know it won't be my last. They have absolutely outstanding customer service.
Pros: Easy set-up, very good sound, no wires to hid.
Cons: The menu screen on the bar could be brighter or larger for easier reading during set up. The IR pass through is not very effective.
The over all quality of the sound is fantastic. It's not surround sound but it's much better then the old system I had. It was more complicated to set up then I thought it would be but Carl from Crutchfield went above and beyond to make sure I had it set up right. Thanks Carl.
Pros: Beautiful sound. Great for movies.
Cons: Difficult to set up to my system. For good voice quality you have to turn off the sub woofer.
I have a Sony TV with great picture, but ordinary sound. But with this Sony sound bar, the sound now matches the picture. On the sound bar's remote use "stereo" to listen to news programs, otherwise there's a bass thump. Since the sound bar has bluetooth, I'm able to listen to music from my iPhone--fantastic
We installed in our living room and were looking to minimize wiring work. Since this is not the primary media room, we wanted some basic sounds beyond that of the TV speakers. The TV display is certainly too big for this device - 55"+ and hence there is a feeling of a large display with not enough sound, however, we knew that up front. It did take a bit more time to set up then expected. The sound bar would be a good fit for a closed small-medium size room (say 12'x12').
Pros: Wireless Sub-woofer Clean installation Good overall value
Cons: Average sound Adequate smaller closed spaces
I got an email asking about whether or not this sound bar would work with a 42" LG TV. The dimensions of the sound bar are 40-1/2"wide x 4-1/2" high. If you have an optical audio in and these dimensions work with your unit, you will be fine. I love my HT-CT660.
For a two piece system this Sony sounds really good. A huge improvement over our 55" Sony Bravia tv speakers. Very easy to set up. You just have to be aware that if it will be placed infront of your TV the sounds bar is about 5 inches tall and can block the TV sensor for the remote. Did what other suggested...put a couple pieces of 2by4 under the TV platform to raise it above the sound bar. Very happy with my purchase since the bass sounds really good when playing movies or netflix. All I had to do was plug the power cables in and then run the optical wires (supplies) to the back of our TV and whalla...that easy. Fast shipment!
Pros: Sounds good, easy set, nice looking, and good price. Very nice system.
Cons: Sound bar is somewhat tall if placed in front of TV.
very good sound, excellent price, easy setup. working great with tv and stream from pc. good job Sony
Great sound. The bass comes in nicely and pairs beautifully with the speaker. It appears as if the sound is coming right from the TV which is a big plus in my book. Bluetooth function works wonderfully and the remote even controls the phone/mp3 player. I have not truly pumped it up to a great extent b/c i have small children and I'd rather not awake them.
Pros: crystal clear highs realistic lows bluetooth connectivity is awesome
Cons: No "surround" is really heard. I need to enjoy this further before truly getting into the "surround" effect.
Went from a 6.2 Onkyo system to the Sony soundbar and it sounds amazing. Definitely not a surround system, but an excellent value for the money. Highly recommended
Pros: small and sounds great
Cons: was lead to believe it was compatible with my older Bravia 46", but it was not. Still works great just minus a few features that dont affect sound quality, only convenience.
Overall impressive sound quality- much better than the speakers which are integral to the TV. Crutchfield tech support helped me with settings on my Hitachi TV in order to allow the sound bar to work with the TV. Hitachi tech support was clueless on how to install a sound bar on their own product!
Pros: Excellent sound. Excellent customer service from Crutchfield technical staff.
Great product not one complaint, perfect sound and great a for a small space setup
Fairly easy to set up and get running, fits nicely in front of the TV,looks & sounds great. a much needed addition for a big TV. Love it !!!
Pros: Great sound & value for the money
Cons: None so far
Wanted more sound than the tv's speakers produced, but didn't have the room for a full surround system. After checking out several sound bars with subwoofers I decided on this one because it sounded best to me. It was easy for me to setup and didn't take up much space. Due to my tv's stand I placed it on the wall directly above the tv and it blends in nicely. I really like being able to connect my tablet or phone to it via bluetooth.
Pros: It sounds great, doesn't take up a lot of space, and was easy enough to setup.
Purchased this to replace an older Sony home theater system. I really like the sound bar. It has made our tv, movie and music experience much better.
Pros: Great sound. Can choose different sound features for movies, games, sports, music, etc.
Cons: Sony's product manuals are not the best at explaining things. The picture where to insert the HMDI cable was difficult to tell. Had to call technical support. Technical Support is AWESOME!
Very Easy to set up. Very nice looking, great sound with a deep bass tone. The remote has several options for sound. I mounted this about the TV, looks great. The wireless remote bass allows easy placement in the room.
Pros: Easy to set up, great sound, wireless bass
I bought this soundbar based on the reviews but am extremely unhappy with the sound quality. The sound was very fuzzy, received a lot of feedback, and felt extremely concentrated in one area. My stereo system from 2002, which is not that great, is much better than this.
Pros: Sleek design
Cons: Bad Sound
probably the best for the money easy set up plug and play
Pros: nice highs relly deep bass
Cons: could be my tv but could be louder .
I replaced my old HK 5.1 Surround sound system and all its complexity and cables with this simple system. I had somewhat low expectations as to the sound quality and felt I would miss my old system. Have been using this system for 1 month and I dont miss the old 5.1 at all. I am still pleased with the performance of this system. Sure, its not quite as "open" with within the entire range of low to highs. The bass is a bit booming. But overall, I am very happy and do not miss all the cables and remotes, speakers involved to get just a bit better sound than this system. The more I use this system, the more I am happy to have it.
Pros: simple to set up and use - much better performance than expected against the old 5.1
Cons: bass is a bit booming. Not quite as clean accross the entire range, but this is being nit-picky
Beautiful Design, much better looking than most sound bars...plus the sound is superior to anything else in the immediate price range for sound bars. 3 HDMI inputs including ARC (Audio return channel), plus other input type make this THE sound bar to beat when it comes to setting up your home system. Rich bass (so you may want to turn it down a bit from the default). Tweaking the settings doesn't take very much time.
Pros: 3 HDMI inputs, Wireless Subwoofer, Intelligent Power Settings, Lots of customization options
Cons: Some of the built-in quick sound settings aren't useful. It's best to select a setting and customize to taste.
Works as they say plus , sound that in the old days came from there XBR CRT line!! The Bar as every way in the world to hook it to any ones system, from HDMI- 3.5mm hear phone jacks. The sub doesn't look as good as the bar,but the sound is great.
Pros: any way you want to hook it up,and set up works great, Don't worry about set up you can always reset the whole thing start over it easy .
Cons: You well find the it takes some doing to get to all the option, which do a great job.
Own a home in South Illinois and have your typical 5.1 surround setup in my Man Cave. Purchased a Duplex in Buffalo, NY that does not have alot of square footage so a 5.1 setup was over kill. Did alot of research on the 2.1 systems as I was very leary relative to sound quality. The Crutchfiled write-ups as well as video were very helpful. Was blown away by the quality of sound from the sound bar as well as the subwoofer. The sound was great for sports as well as blue ray movies. This unit does give you the effect of surround sound especially for movies. The subwoofer is your standard size you would get in quality 5.1 setups so for me in this small living room it was a challenge to find a spot between the furniture and ensure the sound wasn't being blocked. To me it was too big to put in front of the TV and didnt look great so bought a 3ft picture shelf and hung it just over the my 50 inch TV to sit on. Looks great and sounds great. My wife who hate speakers everywhere was happy. The installation was a breeze and the automatic sync with the wireless subwoofer was cool. Bluetooth setup for music was a breeze as well. I know there are cheaper 2.1 systems on the market and can't speak to them but can tell you this product was worth the money I spent. I would jump on it if you are in the market for a 2.1 system.
Pros: Great sound for both regular TV and Blue Ray Movies Easy Installation. Connected in less than 30 minutes
Cons: Not pure surround you get from 5.1 or 7.1 systems but surround is decent and a heck of alot easier to install.
The sound quality is great and exceeded my expectations. I did have one physical installation issue. My plan was to have our TV and sound bar sit on the top surface of a corner TV entertainment cabinet. But the height of the sound bar was higher than the bottom of my recently purchased Sony TV thus partially blocking the picture screen. To solve that I had to elevate the TV with a small swivel shelf. The wireless function to my smartphone is a great feature for music listening and easy to set up.
Easy Setup Great Sound
Great sound from this unit. This my first sound bar purchase and I was a little scared off by the price. But I would purchase this unit again and suggest it to all.
Pros: Great Sound and Looks.
Cons: Display is hard to see and setup was not very easy.
Excellent sound system with great sound and which was easy to install. Works great in every way advertised.

Unlike other "virtual surround" technologies, rear sound is generated from the soundbar speaker using sophisticated digital sound processing and does not need to be bounced off of side walls. No matter what the size or shape of the room or what is on the wall, it is possible to hear sounds from behind you without needing to place speakers behind you. You can select from one of the following soundfields to optimize your surround sound experience.
Note: You can set a different soundfield for each input source.

Yes....I have a Sony 55" on a 5' by 3' deep stand. I have to move the sound bar away from the remote receiver on the TV...so I I move it slightly to the right and the remote reception is not interfered with by the sound bar. Love the sound bar and the bass. So clear and it enhances the low volume from the Sony tv. Excellent choice for the price. [ James Apr 28, 2014 ]
I think it would sound just fine. I use mine with a 70" and it sounds fantastic. I really enjoy my sound bar. [ MICHAEL R Apr 25, 2014 ]
Yes, the size of the TV does not natter as long as you have room for the sound bar. [ DAVID W Apr 24, 2014 ]
I use it with a 60" TV with no issues. Works great! [ JOHN Apr 24, 2014 ]
Yes that is the size TV I have it seems perfect. [ Andrew Apr 24, 2014 ]
Yes. I am using it on a 65" tv. [ JERRY Apr 24, 2014 ]
Hi Deb, Yes this works great with my Sony 55" TV. [ JASON Apr 24, 2014 ]

Yes. [ JUAN Jan 28, 2014 ]
yes. I have a 60 inch aand it sounds great. [ DOM Jan 24, 2014 ]
I am very happy with the sound bar. You run an HDMI cable from your set top box to the sound bar. Then run an HDMI cable from an output on the sound bar to thd TV. If your HDMI input on the TV is marked "ARC" you don't have to audio cables. The HDMI cable will carry the audio back and forth. [ William Jan 24, 2014 ]
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. I'm using mine with a new Vizio LED TV and it works great. [ Robert Jan 23, 2014 ]
Yes Micheal, it should work well. This is an EXCELLENT sound bar for the money! [ KURT Jan 23, 2014 ]
Micheal, The dimensions of the soundbar are 40-1-2" wide and 4-1/2" high. If those dimensions work with your TV and it also has an optical in plug this HT-CT660 will work for you. I love mine, setup is easy and the Bluetooth function is great. Good Luck [ Andrew Jan 22, 2014 ]
I would think so. I have only used it for music and it fills the large room I have it in very nicely. [ DAVID W Jan 22, 2014 ]
Yes it will fit a 42". Not sure how you have your flat screen set up but our 55" Sony Bravia sits on a stand with the sound bar in front of it. Because the sound bar is about 5 inches tall we had to raise the TV so the sound bar wouldn't interfere with the sensor for the TV. When using the TV remote the sounds bar blocked the signal so we raised the TV by putting 2x4's under the TV stand. That raised the TV just perfect. If you have your TV mounted to a wall no issues then. Hope this helps. [ James Jan 22, 2014 ]
I have a similar pairing and am extremely pleased. That sound bar is easy to set up and has great sound. If both the tv and the sound bar sit on the same surface make sure it doesn't block the bottom of the tv and interfere with remote signals. [ HERBERT Jan 22, 2014 ]
As long as you have the right connections in back of the TV, the size of the TV does not matter. This Sony HT-CT660 will connect to optical and Mini Stereo Audio Inputs. Read Specs. [ BACKUP AND Jan 22, 2014 ]
Sure. It will work with any newer TV. I like it because it really cleans up all the wiring, especially with multiple inputs such as cable, Apple TV, Blue Ray,etc. The subwoofer is wireless too, so it's a very neat installation. [ Jeffrey Jan 22, 2014 ]
This soundbar should be compatible with nearly any TV. For further information please feel free to reach out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. [ Jeff Dec 28, 2013 ] Staff
should just work. can you bluetooth anything to the sound bar, iPhone, android etc. If so, and not the MB air. I'd give sony tech a call. [ BRIAN G Jan 03, 2014 ]
Is it possible for your macbook to search for the Sony Soundbar to allow it to pair, usually within the settings of your Bluetooth there is a make visible option so each device can locate each other to connect. [ RICARDO Dec 23, 2013 ]
Yes the sound bar is great [ LOUIS J Jan 18, 2014 ]
Because this is a X-Mas gift, I have not opened it yet. However, after looking in the stores and on line for some time now This is a Sony and for the price it is the best...I have no issues that it will sound fantastic...and Crutchfield support is another reason I buy from them. I under stand you can get a sound bar bracket to allow you to mount it on top of your TV. Once I hook up my CT660 I will make that decision. I am jazzed to get it playing...just in time for the Bowl Games. I recently bought a new Car Stereo and speakers from them, and they guided me thru the whole thing...it sound fantastic! it's all good.... [ NAAMAN L Dec 21, 2013 ]
Yes, it comes with wall mount brackets. It works and sounds good. I am very pleased with it. [ William Dec 19, 2013 ]
I don't know why not. I placed mine below. [ Thomas Dec 18, 2013 ]
The answer is yes you can... the cord is long enough to do that. [ Eddy Dec 18, 2013 ]
Sure, there above or below doesn't matter. [ Christian Dec 17, 2013 ]
I really don't know, I thought about it so I could mount my TV lower but elected to go with the sound bar below. Let me know if you hear from someone who has done it that way. [ WIILIAM Dec 17, 2013 ]
Yes, and it works very well, [ MARY V Dec 17, 2013 ]
I see no reason why not [ STEVE L Dec 17, 2013 ]
The system works well to clean up all the connections, but it has an annoying feature, at least they way I need to use it. When the SONY is on, then the sound signal is not sent to the TV. The HDMI sound signal only goes to the TV when the SONY is turned off. This is a problem for me when I need to send the TV sound out to a Bluetooth transmitter. [ Jeffrey Jan 22, 2014 ]
Yes it is. I have mine connected to a Sony TV and I just power it down and listen to the TV speakers. Hope this helps. [ JOHN Dec 08, 2013 ]
I am using it in our summer kitchen and do not have it hooked to a TV. It works and sounds great for music. [ DAVID W Dec 07, 2013 ]
Yes you can revert to the television audio without disconnecting anything. Just go to the menu options on the TV, select audio, then select "TV speakers" instead of "External Speakers." Doing that though might be more complicated that keeping the external speakers on all the time and learning how to operate both. If you really want simplicity, you might want to just stick with using the TV speakers all the time and sacrifice the enhanced sound quality of the sound bar system. Another option is to invest in an advanced remote control device that can be programmed to operate multiple devices (TV, external audio, cable box, dvd, etc.). I am sure the Crutchfield folks could give you some good ideas on remote controls and discuss their pros and cons. [ HERBERT Dec 07, 2013 ]
Ron, I don't know why you would want to revert to anything. Read the instructions or call Sony regarding the "Repeat" functionality. When properly set up (was pretty easy for me) you use the TV / Cable company control to turn on / off the TV and the Sony at the same time and control volume no different than if you were using the TV sound. The "Repeat" function is great and one of the main reasons for buying the Sony CT660. You have one control and simple operation. [ JERRY Dec 07, 2013 ]
Need more info, TV etc , My is a Sony and I'm using audio out jack, but I'm also still playing around to find out the best way to run it HDMI ,fiber, etc. Still to new to give a good answer. [ GARY . Dec 07, 2013 ]
Yes. The sound bar and tv work independently from each other. The problem you, or her, will run into is that the sound bar and tv don't sync up. If you use the tv volume as loud as the sound bar volume, you get a very annoying echo. When I use the sound bar, I turn my tv volume down to a lower volume level. In reality, that is the purpose of the sound bar. I love the Sony HT-CT660. The sound is awesome and the wireless sub has alot of good bass. I use the fiber optic cable for the audio and it works great. [ RUSSELL Dec 07, 2013 ]
Yes Turn off the BRAVIA feature, so the input stays where you left it Press AMP button Down arrow to HDMI press OK Should see. CNTRL. Press OK DOWN arrow Press OK THen press AMP button [ Jeffrey Dec 07, 2013 ]
Yes. You simply turn the TV's speakers back on and the sound bar off to listen to the TV speakers. You don't have to disconnect anything and you do the reverse to revert back to the sound bar. [ Andrew Dec 07, 2013 ]
Hi Ron, My simple answer would be "only if you programmed a remote to work with her current system" - I would not recommend this particular system for your elderly Mother. This Sony HT-CT660 did not come with a remote control, programming the remote was not that simple. Also, the sub-woofer does not seem to consistently connect. The system sounds fantastic! once everything is programmed and connected. I hope that helped your decision making easier. [ BACKUP AND Dec 07, 2013 ]
I bought the 660 as a Xmas gift and it has not been hooked up yet. Sorry [ Larry Dec 07, 2013 ]
