Our take on the Sony SAL 18200 Lens

Add some serious telephoto power to your Alpha digital SLR camera with Sony's SAL 18200. This versatile zoom lens has a 35mm equivalent of 27mm to 300mm. With that kind of focal range you can capture impressive wide-angle shots and close-ups of nearby subjects, as well as crisp photos of faraway scenes.

The SAL 18200 is compact, lightweight and easy to carry. Constructed of 15 elements in 13 groups, this lens uses three aspherical elements for sharp focus throughout its entire zoom range. Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens elements help create clear, color-accurate images. The supplied lens hood (not pictured) allows better shooting in bright light, while the front and rear lens caps protect against dust and scratches.

Need a case for your camera's lens? Check out Tamrac's lens compatibility chart to find a case that fits (requires Adobe® Reader®).

    Features

Product Overview: The Sony SAL18200 is specially designed for the APS-size CCD image of the Sony DSLR-A100 camera. With the superior all-in-one lens performance for everyday shooting, its 35mm-equivalent range of 27mm wide-angle to 300mm telephoto excels at capturing faraway subjects, sports events, dramatic landscapes and intimate close-up views.

Compatibility: This lens is compatible with the Sony Alpha-series digital SLR cameras.

DT Lens Design: The DT lens design is a compact, lightweight design specifically for the APS-size CCD imager used in the Sony Alpha-series digital SLR cameras.

Internal Focusing System: The internal focusing system allows the internal lens elements to move, so the overall length does not have to change. This creates a lens that focuses quickly and doesn't change balance.

Aspherical Lens Elements: Three aspherical elements correct visual abnormalities more effectively across the entire zoom range, and they help reduce weight.

ED (Extra-low dispersion) Glass: Two ED glass lenses minimize flare and greatly reduce color abnormalities, giving you sharp and clear shots, even at full telephoto extension.

Circular Aperture: Because aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-lights shots, spot light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Lens Hood: The included lens hood allows for better shooting in bright light. A lens hood can be used to reduce flare in bright light areas to ensure maximum image quality.

Note: When using the built-in camera flash, make sure to remove the lens hood to avoid blockage of the flash light.

Focusing: This lens can be used for auto and manual focusing. The focus signal in the viewfinder indicates the current degree of the focus.

Distance Encoder: The lens is equipped with a distance encoder, which allows more accurate measurement by using a flash for ADI (Advanced Distance Integration) metering.
