About the Sony SAL24F20Z 24mm f/2.0 Lens
A large maximum aperture makes this lens ideal for shooting in lower-light environments. Use it on your compatible Sony camera to take group photos at dusk without using a flash, or snap pictures of a vast skyline from the top of a building. The lens is also great for close-ups, indoor group shots, and for making a portrait stand out against a blurred background.
A fast, accurate lens
Superior optics ensure you'll get crystal-clear, high-contrast images. A special lens coating virtually eliminates ghosting and flaring caused by off-axis sun rays. Sony's built-in Smooth Sonic wave Motor (SSM) makes focus fast and accurate — a big help when it comes to catching those once-in-a-lifetime shots. This lens is a great way to expand your Sony digital SLR setup.

Features
Overview: The Sony SAL24F20Z is a superior quality wide angle lens that features a large aperture (f/2.0) and fixed focal length of 24mm (35mm format equivalent is 36mm). It is developed jointly by Carl Zeiss and Sony Corporation, and produced according to the strict standards and quality assurance system of Carl Zeiss. The lens comes with a protective padded lens pouch.
Compatibility: The SAL85F28 lens is equipped with a Sony A-mount, and is designed for use with Sony Interchangeable Lens Digital Cameras with an APS-C size image sensor and Sony 35mm format digital cameras, such as the DSLR-A900 and DSLR-A850. With an optional LA-EA1 (item # 158LAEA1) mount adapter, this lens can be used on Sony α (alpha) NEX-series hybrid cameras and camcorders with the E-mount.
F2.0 Maximum Aperture: This F2.0 lens is able to capture brilliant high-resolution images, especially in low-light conditions that require a fully open aperture.
ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass: The lens is equipped with ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass. Because light of different wavelengths (or color) bends at different angles when it passes through a lens, ED Glass helps eliminate chromatic aberration by correcting certain wavelengths of light. The result is sharp, clear images with well-defined colors.
Carl Zeiss T* Coating: The lens features T* (T-star) coatings, developed by Carl Zeiss. The coating virtually eliminates lens flare, internal reflection, and light scattering.
Super Sonic Wave Motor (SSM): Designed for fast, smooth, silent automatic focusing, the Super Sonic Wave Motor technology achieves high torque at low speed with rapid start/stop response. It operates through the ability of a piezo-electric device to reshape itself quickly when voltage is applied.
Auto/Manual Focus: For auto focusing, both the camera and the lens must be set to AF. To focus manually, you can either switch the camera to Manual Focus, or turn the MF-AF switch on the lens to MF, or both. Once set to Manual Focus, you can bring your subject into focus by turning the focus ring on the lens while looking through the viewfinder.
Focus Hold Button: The lens has a Focus Hold button, which, when pressed and held, suspends the auto focus function and fixes the focus for shooting. If the camera has a custom function capability, the function of the Focus Hold button can be changed.
Lens Hood: The lens includes the ALC-SH110 lens hood to reduce flare and ensure maximum image quality. When using the camera's built-in flash, you should remove the lens hood to avoid blocking the flash light. You can store the hood by mounting it backwards onto the lens. When attached, the hood adds approximately 1-3/8" to the length of the lens.
Flash Precautions: When using a built-in camera flash, you will have to shoot from at least 1 meter (3.3') away from your subject. With certain lens/flash combinations, the lens may partially block the light of the flash, resulting in a shadow at the bottom of the picture.
Vignetting: When you use the lens, the corners of the screen may become darker than the center. To reduce this phenomenon (called vignetting), you should close the aperture by 1-2 stops.
