Pair your Sony digital SLR with this high-quality 50mm f/1.4 lens to capture crisp, sparkling-clear images. Its large maximum aperture of f/1.4 gathers lots of light to give you an ultra-bright view through your viewfinder, plus it means you can use faster shutter speeds to "freeze" moving subjects. This lens is also ideal for taking great-looking photos at twilight, or indoors without a flash — its 50mm focal length makes it an excellent choice for portraits and all-around picture taking.

The SAL-50F14's seven rounded aperture blades create a nearly perfect circular opening for admitting light. That allows you to softly defocus unnecessary background details to make your crisply focused subject pop from the photo. The supplied lens hood improves shooting in bright sunlight.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the third lens I bought for my Sony Alpha, and by far my favorite. I am an amateur photographer trying to go pro, and this lens will be with me for a long time. I did a ton of research before I purchased it, and could not be happier with my decision. I have found more uses than I ever thought for this lens.

Product Overview: This lens has a fixed focal length of 50mm; equivalent to 75mm when used on a camera with an APS-S image sensor (typical in all but the most expensive digital SLR cameras). The f/1.4 maximum aperture has the ability to more available light for clarity and visual accuracy when using a flash is not an option.

Auto/Manual Focus: To focus manually using this auto-focus lens, set the camera body to manual focus and adjust the focus ring on the lens.

Circular Aperture: The aperture blades of this lens form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, so spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Distance Information: The shooting distance scale, located on the barrel of the lens, is graduated in feet and meters from 1.5 ft. (0.45m) to infinity. For accurate manual focusing, look through the viewfinder while rotating the focusing ring.
