Overview: The Sony SAL50F14Z (50mm F1.4 ZA SSM) is a fast, high-quality prime lens. This Carl Zeiss Planar lens has a large aperture (F1.4) for capturing brilliant high-resolution images in low-light conditions regarding fully-open aperture. The T* (T-Star) coating virtually eliminates lens flare, internal reflection, and light scattering.
Compatibility: The SAL50F14Z lens is equipped with a Sony A-mount, and is designed for use with Sony α (alpha) Interchangeable Lens Digital Cameras. With an optional LA-EA1 mount adapter, this lens can be used on Sony α (alpha) NEX-series hybrid cameras and camcorders with the E-mount.
Auto/Manual Focus: You can switch between AF (auto focus) and MF (manual focus) on the lens. To shoot in AF mode, you will need to set the focus mode to AF on the camera and the lens. To shoot in MF mode, you can set the lens or the camera to MF, or both. The focusing ring can be rotated until the subject is in focus. For Direct Manual Focus (DMF), you can rotate the focusing ring after the focus is set in AF-A (automatic auto focus) or AF-S (single-shot automatic focus) modes.
Lens Hood: The lens includes the SLC-SH126 lens hood to reduce flare and ensure maximum image quality. When not in use, the lens hood can be inverted and stored on the lens backwards.

I received this lens just a few weeks ago and have just started using this lens. It's sharp!!! It focuses quickly, and rendera beautiful colors and gorgeous bokeh. This lens lives now on my A77 II and is a great focal length for portrait work.
