Overview: The Sony SAL50F18 is a small, lightweight lens that features a large aperture (f/1.8) and fixed focal length of 50mm (APC-C
35mm equivalent of 75mm) which
makes it ideal for portrait shots.
DT Lens Design: The DT Lens is a compact, lightweight lens designed
specifically for the APS-size CCD imager used in most Sony Alpha-series DSLR
Note: DT lenses are not recommended for use with the Sony
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass: The Sony SALF50F18 utilizes ED
(Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass to reduce chromatic aberration at telephoto
extension and correct certain wavelengths of light for sharp, clear images with
well defined colors.
Circular Aperture: Because the lens' aperture blades form a near
circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a
pleasing circular defocused effect.
Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM): The built-in Smooth Autofocus Motor
(SAM) eliminates the need to use a mechanical coupling system in the camera body
to transfer auto focus (AF) drive power and control signals to the lens.
Instead, AF control signals from the camera body are sent to the lens-mounted
SAM unit, which drives the focusing lens group directly, helping to assure
smooth AF response.
Manual Focus: To focus manually using this auto-focus lens, set the camera
body to manual focus and adjust the focus ring on the lens. The shooting
distance scale, located on the barrel of the lens, is graduated in feet and
meters from 1.1 ft. (0.34m) to infinity. For accurate manual focusing, look
through the viewfinder while rotating the focusing ring
SteadyShot INSIDE In-Camera Image Stabilization: A major reason for
the lens' compact, lightweight design is the benefit of SteadyShot INSIDE
in-camera image stabilization, built into every Sony Alpha-series DSLR camera,
and enabling the lens to eliminate the extra weight and expense of in-lens
