The Sony HDR-PJ275 is a high-definition camera and a projector, all in one.
Sharing video just gets easier and easier. The Sony HDR-PJ275 is a high-definition video camera, but it's also a projector. On the back of the viewscreen is a high-contrast projection lens that allows you to go from recording action to publicly sharing it in moments. Project a 100" image on a nearby wall for quick-and-dirty playback. Since it has an HDMI input for compatible smartphones, video game consoles, laptops and tablets, you can also project YouTube™ videos, photos, full-length films and more.
Often, the people you love most can't be in your living room with you when you show video of baby's first steps. Fortunately, the 'PJ275 is equipped with Wi-Fi® and Near Field Communication (NFC). With a simple touch you can wirelessly transfer your files to a compatible mobile device for instant online sharing, back up your data on your PC and even enjoy your videos and photos on a compatible Smart TV without wires, cables or hassle.
With all these ways to share your footage, you'll want to make sure you've got something worth seeing. The 'PJ275 helps you nail the shot with a wide-angle Carl Zeiss lens and a 2.7" LCD screen, so you can see exactly what you're working with before you hit record. SteadyShot™ image stabilization keeps the action flowing with minimal camera shake. Scene modes assist with settings for common shooting situations like Fireworks, Beach, Sunrise & Sunset and more. Sony's free PlayMemories software assists you in uploading, editing and archiving your files, and seven built-in creative modes (Toy Camera, Pop Color, Retro Photo and more) add some pizzazz to the finished product.
From birthday parties to YouTube antics, camcorders let you capture moments you can share with friends and family, or the world at large. Most newer camcorders save your videos to built-in digital memory or a removable memory card. Some models come with a built-in hard disk drive that gives you much more storage. For maximum portability, check out our smaller cams that fit into a pocket or purse. For high-def videos that look awesome on your HDTV, go for a slightly larger model with a better lens and image sensor.
The camera is very small and light. The projector is very handy. Was not sure how much we would use it but we do all the time. Way easier than hooking it up to the TV. The only thing would be that it feels a little cheap. The screen when flipped out does not feel very Secure.
Good camcorder for the price. Not loaded with extras but they're not missed, and probably wouldn't be expected at this price point anyway. Takes great video and still images and navigating the interface is a breeze. Somewhat flimsy feeling but so far as proved pretty durable.
Pros: Simple interface, no extra options to clutter the menu screens
Cons: projector seems a little under developed and seems unnecessary

The 230,400-dot (960 x 240) LCD screen rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles providing sharp and detailed images for monitoring or playback. In addition, you can navigate through the menu system by using the Multi Selector button, located beside the LCD. The LCD also features an adjustable brightness and color level. You can also power on this camcorder by simply opening its LCD display.
Note: The LCD does not feature a touch screen function. This camcorder does not include a separate viewfinder.
Projector: The PJ275 allows you to share your movies or photos virtually anywhere with its built-in high contrast (1500:1 contrast ratio), 13-lumen projector. The DLP projector is built into the LCD panel, and is powerful enough to project a 100" diagonal screen. It has a 640 x 360 resolution, manual focusing, and a throw distance of 1.6 feet and over. The 2,290,000 effective video pixels provide excellent detail and clarity. Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T Lens: The camcorder features a high-quality 29.8mm wide-angle Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens designed specifically for compact camcorders.
27x Optical and 54x Clear Image Zoom: The PJ275 has a 27x optical zoom and a 54x Clear Image Zoom. While most digital zooms electronically crop the picture to get closer to the subject, the Clear Image Zoom uses advanced processing to double the optical zoom. The processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, which results in more realistic, and clearer images. In addition to the Clear Image Zoom, you can activate the Digital Zoom for a total zoom value of 320x.
Built-in Wi-Fi: The HDR-PJ275 has built-in Wi-Fi, enabling you to connect the camcorder wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet, computer, or TV. You can load the PlayMemories Mobile app (available for Android on Google Play or for iOS devices from the App Store) on your smartphone or tablet and turn your device into a remote control/viewing device. You can also transfer your MP4 movies and photos to your mobile device wirelessly for instant sharing. When the camcorder is connected to your network, you can back up your files to your computer, or watch your videos and photos on your connected TV.
Near-Field Communication (NFC): For Android devices that support NFC, you can wirelessly connect the camcorder via NFC One-Touch Connection. By touching the camcorder to the device at the "N" logo near the hand strap, the wireless connection is made. The PlayMemories Mobile app will start up on the device within a second or two.
SteadyShot Image Stabilization: SteadyShot Image Stabilization with Active Mode uses 3-way Shake-Canceling to compensate for camera shake. With SteadyShot activated, you'll get smooth video from wide angle to full telephoto, even while shooting footage while walking.
Face Detection: The camcorder's Face Detection technology recognizes faces and optimizes the camera settings for videos and still photos. Videos and photos recorded using Face Detection are indexed according to the faces detected in each scene. This allows you to search for what you want by selecting the faces displayed in the index.
Focus Modes: The Sony Handycam HDR-PJ275 features Auto Focus and Manual Focus modes. When using Auto Focus, you can choose to focus on a subject in the center of the screen. For more difficult focusing situations, you can manually adjust the focus of the camcorder. The minimum focus distance is approximately 0.4" (1 cm) at wide angle and 31.5" (80 cm) at telephoto.
