General Features

Memory Card Slot: The Sony HDR-PJ670 Full HD camcorder can record video and photos onto Memory Stick Micro (Mark2) memory cards up to 16 GB in capacity, as well as Class 4 or faster microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC Memory Cards up to 64 GB. In addition, the camcorder has a 32 GB internal memory.

3.0" LCD Touch Screen: The 3.0" Clear Photo Plus LCD screen provides excellent viewing clarity with improved resolution. The 460,800-dot (960 x 480) LCD screen rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles providing sharp and detailed images for monitoring or playback. You can use the touch screen to select faces and objects to keep in focus, and monitor levels of exposure while you record. You can also power on this camcorder by simply opening its LCD display.

Projector: The PJ670 allows you to share your movies or photos virtually anywhere with its built-in high contrast (1500:1 contrast ratio), 25-lumen projector. The DLP projector is built into the LCD panel, and is powerful enough to project a 100" diagonal screen. It has a 640 x 360 resolution, manual focusing, and a throw distance of 1.6 feet and over. With the micro-HDMI input, you can connect external video sources, such as smartphones, laptops, or tablets. With a fully charged battery pack, the PJ670 can project continuously for about 1 hour 35 minutes.

Imaging Device: The HDR-PJ670 features an advanced 1/5.8" (3.1mm) back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS imaging sensor with 2,510,000 gross pixels. The camcorder has 2,290,000 effective pixels for 16:9 movies and still images and 1,710,000 effective pixels for 4:3 photos. The unique image processing system of the Sony BIONZ-X processor allows 16:9 still image resolution of up to 9.2 MP (4032 x 2272).

Sony G Lens: The camcorder features a premium-quality 1.9mm-57mm wide-angle Sony G lens designed specifically for compact camcorders. This is equivalent to 26.8-804mm in 35mm photography.

Built-in Wi-Fi: The HDR-PJ670 has built-in Wi-Fi, enabling you to connect the camcorder wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet, computer, or TV. You can load the PlayMemories Mobile app (available for Android on Google Play or for iOS devices from the App Store) on your smartphone or tablet and turn your device into a remote control/viewing device. You can also transfer your MP4 movies and photos to your mobile device wirelessly for instant sharing. When the camcorder is connected to your network, you can back up your files to your computer, or watch your videos and photos on your connected TV.

Near-Field Communication (NFC): For Android devices that support NFC, you can wirelessly connect the camcorder via NFC One-Touch Connection. By touching the camcorder to the device at the "N" logo near the hand strap, the wireless connection is made. The PlayMemories Mobile app will start up on the device within a second or two.

30x Optical and 60x Clear Image Zoom: The PJ670 has a 30x optical zoom and a 60x Clear Image Zoom. While most digital zooms electronically crop the picture to get closer to the subject, the Clear Image Zoom uses advanced processing to double the optical zoom. The processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, which results in more realistic, and clearer images. In addition to the Clear Image Zoom, you can activate the Digital Zoom for a total zoom value of 350x.

Balanced Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization: Balanced Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization provides exceptional camera shake protection. With standard Optical SteadyShot, a single shift lens is moved inside of the optical block. With Balanced Optical SteadyShot, the entire optical block is moved at once, maintaining the integrity of the optical path, and reducing shake and distortion in videos and still photos.

Face Detection: The camcorder's Face Detection technology recognizes faces and optimizes the camera settings for videos and still photos. Videos and photos recorded using Face Detection are indexed according to the faces detected in each scene. This allows you to search for what you want by selecting the faces displayed in the index.

Focus Modes: The Sony Handycam HDR-PJ670 features Auto Focus and Manual Focus modes. When using Auto Focus, you can choose to focus on a subject in the center of the screen. For more difficult focusing situations, you can manually adjust the focus of the camcorder. The minimum focus distance is approximately 0.4" (1 cm) at wide angle and 31.5" (80 cm) at telephoto.

Intelligent Auto Mode: Intelligent Auto mode analyses the scene and automatically selects from ten different scene modes, as well as wind noise reduction. There are 60 possible combinations, including Portrait, Baby, Tripod, Backlight, Landscape, Spotlight, Twilight, Macro, and Low Light.

White Balance Adjustment: Sets the color balance to the brightness of the recording environment. Your choices are:

• Auto: The white balance is adjusted automatically.
• Outdoor: The white balance is adjusted for the following conditions: Outdoors, night views, neon signs and fireworks, sunrise, sunsets, under daylight fluorescent lamps.
• Indoor: The white balance is adjusted for the following conditions: Indoors, party scenes and studios where lighting conditions change quickly, and under the video lamps or incandescent-like color lamps.
• One Push: The white balance will be adjusted according to the present ambient light.

Data Code Function: The camcorder automatically records time codes along with the images you shoot, so you can display the date and time during playback or editing. You can also display the camera settings when recording movies or photos.

Protect: You can protect movies and photos to avoid deleting them by mistake.

Multi-interface Accessory Shoe: The PJ670 features the Multi-interface Accessory Shoe for expanded accessory connectivity for external flash units, LED lights, and stereo microphones.

Power On By LCD: You can set the camcorder to automatically power on when you open the LCD, and turn off when you close the LCD.

Video Camcorder Features

Video Recording: The HDR-PJ670 records High Definition video in 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios with 7 image sizes to choose from. Movies can be recorded in XAVC S format at 50 Mbps, using MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video compression and linear PCM audio compression. Video can also be shot in AVCHD and MPEG-4 modes:

Dual Video Recording: By default, movies are recorded with the AVCHD format and MP4 format at the same time. High definition AVCHD format movies are best viewed on an HDTV, while MP4 video can be easily uploaded to social media sites, emailed, or uploaded to the internet, and viewed on a smart phone or tablet.

Built-In 5.1-channel Zoom Mic: The camcorder has a built-in, 5.1-channel microphone that records sound from all directions, not just in front of the lens. The Zoom Microphone feature records sound with directivity as you move the power zoom lever. The camcorder's microphone level can be set automatically or manually.

My Voice Canceling: When recording a movie using the built-in microphone, you can decrease the voice of the person recording the movie by activating the My Voice Canceling feature. This feature does not activate when using an external microphone.

Divide Movies: The Divide Movies feature allows you to divide movies on the inserted memory card. You cannot restore movies once they are divided.

Digital Still Camera Features

Digital Still Image Recording: Still images can be recorded with the camcorder in the either Still Image or Movie mode (Dual Capture). Still images are recorded in the following resolutions:

• 9.2 MP: 4032 x 2272 (16:9)
• 6.9 MP: 3024 x 2272 (4:3)
• 2.1 MP: 1920 x 1080 (16:9)
• VGA: 640 x 480 (4:3)

Capturing Still Images From Video: You can capture still images from recorded video. The image size is fixed at 2.1MP 1920 x 1080. The recording date and time of the captured photos is the same as the recording date and time of the movie. If there is no data code on the movie, the recording date and time will be the date/time you captured the photo from the video.

Self Timer: This feature allows you to record a still image about 10 seconds after the Photo button is depressed.

Slide Show: You can automatically play back images stored on the memory card in a slide-show fashion.

Battery Information

Battery: This unit comes with an NP-FV50 Lithium-Ion InfoLithium rechargeable battery (6.8 Volts, 980 mAh, 6.6 Wh). Two optional batteries (NP-FV70 and NP-FV100) can be used with the camcorder, providing extended recording and playback times. The battery can be charged in the camera via USB using the supplied AC-UUD11 AC adapter, or while connected to your computer. The recording, playback, and charging time are as follows.

Power Save: You can choose from Standard or Maximum Power Save modes, which turns off the camcorder after a period of time when it is idle. Power Save mode can be turned off, if desired.

Input and Output Notes

HDMI: The PJ670 is equipped with a micro-HDMI (Type D) output for connecting your camcorder to an HDTV. A 40" HDMI cable is included with the camcorder. You can set the HDMI output resolution to Auto, 1080p, 1080i, or 720p. The Auto setting will output the signal according to the TV's capability. When connecting the camcorder to a Bravia Sync-compatible TV via HDMI, you can control play back on the camcorder by aiming the TV's Remote Commander at the TV.

Projector In: In addition to the HDMI output, the PJ670 has a micro-HDMI (Type D) input, labeled Projector In. This input allows you to connect your computer, or a DVD or Blu-ray player to the camcorder for projecting the video.

Multi Connector: The camcorder features a proprietary Multi Connector for use with an optional AV connecting cable (available separately from Sony) for displaying the camcorder's contents on your non-HD television.

Microphone Input: A 3.5mm microphone input is provided for connecting an optional microphone to the camcorder.

Headphone Output: The camcorder is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone output which allows you to monitor the audio as you record or play back a movie.

Built-in USB: The camcorder has a built-in male USB Type A plug and a 40" USB extension cable (Type A USB female-to-Type A USB male) for connecting to a PC. Connecting to a PC via USB allows you to download still images and video files on the memory card. You can edit and save your video files onto your computer, then make DVDs of them using the downloadable PlayMemories Home software.

Software

Downloadable Software: The camcorder has no built-in software for importing images and video from the camcorder to your computer. Instead, the PlayMemories Home software can be downloaded directly to your computer via the Internet (URL provided in the supplied Operating Guide). With PlayMemories Home, you can:

• Import images from your camcorder
• View images on a calendar
• Share images on "PlayMemories Online"
• Upload images to network services, such as Facebook and YouTube
• Create a disc
