Got a whole roomful to impress with your first-person video blog of your African safari? Let them hear the trumpeting of elephants with louder, clearer sound by hooking up the Sony RDP-CA1 portable camcorder speaker to your compatible Sony projection camcorder. It works with camcorders featuring Sony's Active Interface shoe, which is how it connects and draws power from the camera — no need for batteries. Sound is dispersed in a 360-degree pattern, so that everyone can hear your masterpiece loud and clear. And it weighs all of 2.8 ounces, so it's as portable as your camcorder.

A logical way to add sound

Written by Ralph Graves, Staff Writer - Creative, on 6/22/2012 9:19:00 AM

The Sony PJ-Series projection camcorders were made for video sharing. After all, instead of hunkering around a small camcorder display, you just project the image onto a large wall where everyone can see it.

It wasn't until the RDP-CA1 crossed my desk though that I realized there was a slight flaw. Everyone might be able to see the projected image, but how do you hear the sound coming out of the camcorder's tiny speaker? With the CA1, you don't have to. Although compact, this portable speaker puts out reasonably accurate sound at a good volume level. Everyone watching your video should also clearly hear the soundtrack when you have this plugged into the camcorder.

It's a logical accessory I never saw coming. But I'm glad it's here.
