Sony

Sony's RM-X60M/L wired marine remote control lets you manage the tunes on your boat from a convenient spot — without exposing your Sony stereo to the elements. When connected to a compatible Sony marine stereo, this splash-proof remote can handle track selection, fast-forward, rewind, volume, and source selection. Features

Compatibility: The RM-X60M is designed to work with Sony's UniLink control marine receivers that are compatible with Sony's wired remote. The included UniLink "Y" adapter allows you to connect this unit and another UniLink source (CD changer, Satellite or HD Radio, and iPod) to a compatible head unit.

Display: The display shows source and mode information, satellite radio information, and RDS and CD text information (if supplied by the head unit).

Water Resistant: The remote is water resistant, so it is ideal for use on boats, where a head unit needs to be kept dry, but you need to control it from a damp remote location.

Mounting: The RM-X60M requires a 3.25" diameter round cutout. It's held in place using the included mounting bracket. The mounting depth is 1.4375".

Buttons:

  • Volume +/-: used for volume control
  • Source: selects source (Tuner, CD, CD-changer, Satellite, HD-Radio, iPod, etc)
  • Muting: mutes output
  • Off: turns remote off
  • Mode: cycles through radio bands, satellite bands, etc
  • Seek/AMS |<</>>|:change tuner frequency, change track, search within track
  • GP/ALBM+/-: skip groups or albums

Great remote for my boat

Written By Matt, Prince George virginia on Monday, August 25, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my 330 Sea Ray Sundancer and mounted it to the rear swim platform. Makes it so much easier to adjust the receiver from the swim platform without tracking up the carpet in the boat full of water.
Pros:
Easy to install. Easy to use
Cons:
None

Easy to use I use it a little different than most people in that I leave it to where I can pass it to different locations in the boat( leave it portable)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this along with a Sony stereo in my Chris-Craft. It works well, just wish it had better iPod integration. A little disappointed it doesn't show song titles, etc but this was mentioned in other reviews.

Beefy and easy to use remote

Written By John, Rochester, NY on Saturday, December 07, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'd give this a 5 star rating, like other reviews have stated, it's a pain to locate a specific song from the remote. I have to use the main head unit. I figured a way to get around it by hooking in a Blue Tooth to the main unit and I have pick songs from my iPhone to play. I like the large display and buttons. It's a good looking as well. With a big unit comes a big hole. Yikes! Fortunately I only needed to put it on my helm station and not through the fiberglass at the swim transom. I would really be uncomfortable putting a 3.25 inch hole in my boat. What if the next version is smaller and you need to replace.
Pros:
Attractive Easy to use Large controls
Cons:
Hard to search for songs on an iPod Big mounting hole

Sony RM-X60M/L

Written By AlanJ, Ocean City MD on Saturday, August 10, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Read less than stellar reviews, but better than I expected, and once I figured out where to put it(I relocated another gauge) it's so much easier that laying on the deck to deal with the head unit. All you have to do is scroll through the album titles one at a time, which is kind of tedious, but once you get use to it, no problem
Pros:
Easy to read, large readout
Cons:
Too big of a hole to cut(3 1/4")

Sony Marine Remote

Written By BowRider, Louisiana on Monday, May 20, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cable was too short. Couldnt buy one from Sony. Purchased extension cable online. When playing iPod, you can not see the song titles on the display, all it shows is "USB". This remote is good for changing volume, changing radio stations if you listen to the tuner and putting a little light on the swimdeck at night...not much else.
Pros:
Seems to be more rugged than previous remote
Cons:
not very functional to use with iPod/iPhone

GET OUT YOUR HOLE SAW

Written By GARRY THE BOATER, FLORIDA on Wednesday, June 06, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I HAVE HAD 3 SONY REMOTES ON MY BOAT OVER THE YEARS. EACH ONE LASTS ABOUT 2 - 3 YEARS. THIS WAS A NEW MODEL 1 1/2 YEARS AGO WHEN I INSTALLED IT. REMOTE IS STILL FUNCTIONING PERFECTLY AT THIS TIME. INSTALLATION WAS VERY DIFFICULT, I HAD TO DRILL A GIANT HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE BOAT, MUCH LARGER THAN WITH PREVIOUS SURFACE MOUNT MODELS. THIS IS TOUGH THROUGH SOLID FIBERGLASS AND WOOD..... STILL WORKING THOUGH.
Pros:
EASY TO READ
Cons:
BIG MOUNTING HOLE

Water proof Small size Full function
Cons:
Connectors are large and were tricky to tuck away.

Sony marine remote

Written By chris, texas on Monday, April 23, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield delivered as usual! Great service. Pretty nice unit. Note: before you cut a 3-1/4" hole in your boat, this unit can control your Ipod, but cannot control playlists, artists etc. So you will be scrolling through 500 or so songs to find what you want. I should have read the specs a little closer.
Pros:
Nice package. Waterproof.
Cons:
Big hole to mount it. No "search by" feature

Replaced my Sony RM-XM10 remote with this one. Works great and looks better too! Gave it only 4 stars because I've only had it a few weeks but, so far so good. Thanks Crutchfield! You were far more help than Sony themselves!

Upgrade and lose functionality?

Written By Tuner, Gainesville FL on Thursday, May 05, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded from an older Sony CD w/iPod interface and RMX55 to the newer
head unit with the tune tray (DMX MS60) and an RMX60. The iPod control on
the head unit is excellent with USB interface speed. The RMX60 ,however,
does not display any information in the mode setting or the Playlist name
which is troubling since my deck is in the cabin...the older wired remote was
slower but did display all the information. Fix those two items and it is a 10, as
it is, disappointing is the best I can do.

Can you have more than one of these hooked up? Also, can you have this wired along with the sony 11M remote, the one without the display? Thanks [ Luke  Jun 23, 2014 ]

Will this remote work with a sony CDX-GT700HD ? [ Eric  Jun 17, 2014 ]
1 answer
  • I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This remote is not compatible with the CDX-GT700HD, as it does not have the connections necessary. It appears that remote is a dedicated "marine" remote. The only remote I find compatible is the remote that came in the box with the 700HD, which is a wireless IR remote. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Staff  Jun 18, 2014 ]
