Pack the suitcase (and don't forget this lens)
Sony's been building the gear used by professional videographers and broadcasters for decades. So it's no surprise to see that expertise trickle down into a lens like this constant-aperture 18-105mm f/4 power zoom lens. With an equivalent focal length of 27-157mm and a compact design weighing barely over 1 pound, you've probably figured this is a good candidate for a travel lens. But add an ultra-quiet power-zoom motor that allows silky smooth zooming, and you've got a lens that's tailor-made for your next video production, too.
The wide maximum aperture gives you extra flexibility to get the shot in low light, and when zoomed in it does a nice job with portraits, defocusing the background to give a pleasing isolation of your subject in space. When you need a lens that's got the ability to gather unique still shots and dynamic, sharp video from a distance — all in one remarkably compact package — the SELP18105G should be on your short list.

Product Research
Features
Optics: The Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4G OSS (SELP18105G) mid-range zoom lens is compatible with the Sony α interchangeable lens cameras with the E-mount. The lens provides a 35mm full frame equivalent focal length of 27-157.5mm. It comes with the ALC-SH128 lens hood, and front and rear lens caps.
G-Series Lens: Sony's G-Series lenses are designed for maximum descriptive power, maintaining excellent peripheral light characteristics and maximizing contrast even at the edges of the frame.
Power Zoom (PZ): The 18-105mm features a powered zoom mechanism. A sliding switch on the side of the lens lets you zoom in and out. The zoom speed is determined by how far you slide the switch. You can also zoom manually by turning the zoom ring.
Optical SteadyShot (OSS): The lens has built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, which helps achieve crisp, stable images and video in low-light or when zooming in on distant subjects. The OSS feature can be activated in the camera's menu.
Focusing: The lens can be used with Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras in the auto-focus, direct manual focus, or manual focus modes. You can switch between focusing modes in the camera menu. In Direct Manual focus, you can fine-tune the focus by turning the focusing ring after initially auto-focusing. Manual focusing is performed with the focusing ring as well.
Lens Hood: The lens comes with the ALC-SH128 lens hood which helps prevent lens flare. When installed, the lens hood adds approximately 2" to the overall length of the lens. The hood can be stored on the lens by installing it backwards.

I love this lens so far! Huge upgrade from my previous 20-55mm lens. The manual zoom is fast but the auto zoom seems a bit slow for me. I would definitely buy it again.
