Sony's SLV-N88 delivers solid performance and lots of extras that make it a cinch to use. VCR Plus+ lets you timer-record shows by simply entering the PlusCode numbers found in TV Guide and many newspaper listings. Or, if you're headed out the door when you suddenly remember a show you wanted to tape, use Sony's QuickSet™ Timer Dial. Just turn the knob to set the date, start and stop time, and channel. No on-screen menus to navigate through — you don't even have to turn on your TV!

If you like to record several shows on a single tape, you'll love Sony's Scan and Play mode: the VCR fast-forwards or rewinds through your tape, and automatically plays the first 5 seconds of each recorded program. When it reaches the show you want to watch, just hit Play! Commercial Skip (30-second skip search) makes it easy to jump through recorded ads with just a few pushes of a button. Auto Tape Speed lets you timer-record at SP speed for superior picture quality without worrying about running out of tape — it automatically switches to EP if the recording time exceeds the amount of tape remaining.

Other extras include auto clock and channel set for easy initial setup; a built-in head cleaner that clears away magnetic particle residue every time you insert a tape; and a smooth, silver finish that makes a great match with Sony's silver DVD players and TVs.

19 Micron Video Heads: The 19 Micron video heads provide better picture quality from EP tapes.

VCR+: Whenever you want to record a TV program, all you need to do is locate the "PlusCode" number, a number assigned to each program in the television listings (newspaper, cable listing, TV Guide). Then, just enter the PlusCode number of the program you want and the VCR is automatically programmed to record the show.

Quickset Timer Dial: The Dial Timer allows you to make timer recordings of programs and set the clock without turning on your TV. Set the recording timer to record up to eight programs that will be broadcast within a month using the Dial Timer. The recording start time and stop time can be set at one minute intervals.

Auto Clock Set: This VCR can decode the time signals that some TV and cable channels transmit. When the VCR picks up a time signal, it will automatically set the time. The time can also be set manually.

Auto Tape Speed: This unit will automatically change the tape speed from SP to EP if recording time is longer than the remaining tape.

Commercial Skip: You may skip past a scene you don't want to watch by pressing the "Commercial Skip" button on the remote during playback. The VCR will skip past 30 seconds of tape (up to a maximum of 2 minutes) for each time you press the button and resume playback.

On Screen Menus: On-screen menus are used to help with settings adjustment and programming. You may set the unit to display the menus in English, Spanish, or French.

Child Lock Circuitry: After you have set the timer for recording, you can lock all of the buttons on the VCR so that the settings are not cancelled by mistake. The VCR will not work except for timer recordings until it is unlocked.

Scan and Play: This feature uses the unit's auto indexing to locate a desired point on the tape.  When the search button on the remote is pressed, the VCR will automatically advance to the next index mark and play about 5 seconds. If play is not pressed, the unit will search for the next index mark and continue in the same manner until it reaches the end of the tape. This function can be performed in both forward and reverse directions.

Blank Search: The unit will search and automatically stop at the beginning of a blank space.

Flash Rewind: The unit will rewind a T-120 videotape in about 60 seconds

Eco Info: This Energy Star compliant unit uses only 2 Watts in standby mode. Packaging material is 100% paper and carton is printed with vegetable oil based ink.
