Move your music from room to room

The Sony SRS-X5's simple, attractive design works in practically any room and  takes up very little counter or desk space — Sony's counting on the sound to make the big statement. Wirelessly pair the SRS-X5 to your phone or tablet and play music in the living room, kitchen, or office. You can even take it out to the deck. You get a good eight hours of portable play time with the built-in lithium-ion battery fully charged.

Compact design, big sound

Even though it has a small footprint, the SRS-X5 puts out suprisingly full, spacious sound. Sporting a subwoofer with dual passive radiators, the SRS-X5 especially excels on the bass end. To make sure all your music sounds the best it can, Sony's added an enhancement mode to restore some of the elements that can get lost with compressed music files, including high frequency response.

Charge your phone and take that call

If somebody calls while you're listening to music, simply hit the illuminated "phone" button to talk hands-free. The SRS-X5 has a built-in microphone so both you and your caller will enjoy a clear conversation. If your phone is running low on power, plug it into the rear USB port to recharge.

Features

Audio Section: The Sony SRS-X5 Bluetooth speaker system houses two 1.5" full-range drivers and a single 2.375" subwoofer, along with dual oval passive radiators to deliver rich and powerful sound. The system's built-in  S-master digital amplifier is rated at 5W x 2ch + 10W x 1ch (using AC Power) or 1W x 2ch + 6W x 1ch (using battery power). The SRS-X5 also incorporates two Sony-unique audio technologies to revitalize your favorite compresses digital music tracks.

  • DSEE: DSEE improves digitally compressed music files by restoring high frequencies lost in the compression process.
  • ClearAudio+:  ClearAudio+ renders a vibrant soundfield with immersive bass, full mids, and pronounced highs for all your music tracks.

Bluetooth Technology: The Sony SRS-X5 features built-in Bluetooth (version 2.1+EDR) with support for A2DP wireless audio streaming and multiple audio codecs, like aptX, AAC, and SBC. It also offers support for HFP, so you can use the SRS-X5 as a hands-free speakerphone for your mobile phone. The speaker system also offers Simple Secure Pairing (SSP) and Near Field Communication (NFC).

  • Simple Pairing: The SRS-X5 pairs wirelessly and effortlessly with Bluetooth enabled devices (up to 9) with a single press of a button. Bluetooth-enabled devices (like Android 2.3.3 or later) that have Near Field Communication (NFC) are even easier to pair with; simply touch the device to the NFC logo on the speaker and they're paired. NFC Easy Connect app is needed for your Android device, unless you have Android OS 4.1 or later installed. Once paired, the speaker system will automatically re-connect to your device when within range (up to 33').
  • Wireless Audio Streaming: You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple device, Android smartphone/tablet, portable audio player, laptop, or PC to the Sony SRS-X5 speaker system. The SRS-X5 is compatible with a wide range of Bluetooth music codecs, including the high sound quality aptX for Android, AAC for Apple iOS, and SBC for other Bluetooth devices. The speaker automatically selects the optimum compatible codec for your Bluetooth device so you can enjoy high-grade wireless sound. You'll continue to use your Bluetooth-enabled mobile device for music navigation and song/artist information display.
  • Hands-Free Speakerphone: You can use the SRS-X5 as a hands-free speakerphone for your Bluetooth paired Apple iPhone, Android smartphone, Windows phone, Blackberry and other Bluetooth enabled mobile phones. The caller's voice is heard through the system's speaker, while you speak into the unit's built-in microphone. You can answer and end a call by pressing the top-panel "phone icon" button. You can also activate the voice command function of your phone to dial a number by pressing this same button. In addition, a long press of this button, will redial the last phone number you called. All other phone functions will be handled from your mobile phone.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Sony SRS-X5 system.

Aux Input: In addition to wireless Bluetooth connectivity, the Sony SRS-X5 is fitted with a 3.5mm auxiliary input for connection of almost any portable audio player with a headphone output.

USB Charging Port: The Sony SRS-X5 is capable of recharging the battery of your Bluetooth-enabled device from the speaker's rear-panel USB type-A port (5V/1.5A). Simply connect your mobile device to the speaker system with the USB cable that comes with your device. Now you don't need an extra charger to keep your devices powered up.

Note: This USB port does not support audio playback.

Rechargeable Battery: The Sony SRS-X5 operates off of battery and AC power. The built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery can last up eight hours. The included AC power adapter charges the built-in battery and supplies power to the speaker system.

Note: If no operation is performed and no sound is input for approximately 15 minutes, the speaker system will turn off automatically to save power and battery life.

I would not recommend it. This speaker is intended as a Bluetooth connection to a smart phone to play music or video and enjoy good sound. And it dies a great job!

sorry have never tried. I use mine as a speaker for an iPad which makes awesome sound.

Hello to all concern, To answer the question in short, YES. Tthere are at least 2 ways to do this. 1.) Mini stereo phono connector into Sony speaker. What ever audio connector on the TV. DON'T forget to press the audio input button on the speaker. If you have the room near the TV, I recommend this stereo audio cable method. 2.) Blu-Tooth transmitter from TV audio out, generally the head phone/ear phone jack on the TV. now you will need to purchase another device, blu-tooth transmitter. Excellent Sony Blu-Tooth speaker, great volume, great sound quality, good battery life. Hope this was helpful? Enjoy!!

It has two forms of receiving an audio signal. One is via Bluetooth the other via a standard 3.5 mm stereo plug. If your smart TV has an audio output (I would imagine most do since many people hook up auxiliary sound systems), then this unit (which has a very nice sound) will work just like any other speaker.
