Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Purchased for my garage to power my Polk RTi A1's that is replacing my failing 20 year old JVC RX-318BK receiver. The new unit is simple and easy to use with good sound quality and function but in my opinion is only half the receiver it is replacing. I feel that I am comparing apples to apples here since both of these units are low dollar economical pieces not top of the line models today or 20 years ago. My old unit is rated @ 110 per channel with a better tuner, more presets, a phono input and two switched AC outlets on the back (which is almost impossible to get anymore). I do feel the sound quality is better on the Sony but is lacking the power & punch of the old JVC has. Don't get me wrong I do like my new Sony and would recommend it to anyone putting a economical component system together for there bedroom, office or garage as long as you can score one for a better price than retail. I could only give this unit a 4 star rating due to the lack of power it's suppose to have and what it really has and feel that the price tag is just too much for too little.
Pros: Simple easy to use no frills inexpensive 2-channel unit. Perfect for a bedroom, office or garage. Purchased mine as a 'open box" special and with my reward points saved myself $27 so I can't complain about what the receiver cost me.
Cons: Amplifier power way over rated, seems more like 40-50 watts per channel than 90. I feel the price tag a little steep when you compare to my old unit that was roughly only $20-$30 more 20 years ago and offered way more bang for the buck.
