This receiver has the power to drive seven home theater speakers, and all the processing you need to experience riveting sound with your favorite films, TV shows, video games, and music. It also includes decoding for Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD™ Master Audio — high-resolution surround sound formats which lend even greater realism to many Blu-ray movies and concerts.

Streamlined video connections and maximum picture quality
Four HDMI inputs let you connect your high-definition video components and switch easily between them. Analog-to-HDMI conversion allows you to send all of your older video sources to an HDMI-equipped TV using a single digital cable. Sophisticated digital video upconversion can upgrade any non-HD video source to an HDMI digital signal with resolution up to 1080p, for a smoother, more detailed look on your HDTV. The 'DH810's Audio Return Channel function even allows audio signals to be sent from your compatible HDTV's tuner back to the receiver via HDMI — eliminating the need for extra cables.

Easy and accurate setup
Sony's auto calibration makes home theater setup quick, simple, and accurate. Just plug in the included microphone, place it in your favorite seat, and the 'DH810 automatically adjusts the volume and delay settings for each speaker in your system. The result is precise, well-balanced home theater sound, custom-tailored for your specific room and speakers.

Get your iPod® into the fun
An optional iPod dock lets you easily hook up your player for quick access to your digital music library. Kick back and enjoy your favorite songs through your home A/V system.

Absolutely in love with this receiver, even though it's been replaced by another model. Got it for less than $150.00 after I purchased my TV. It replaces an ancient Technics (one of the first Dolby Pro Logic boxes). Buying a new 5.1 speaker system to take better advantage of it.

Getting so much more enjoyment out of my HD devices... Upgraded to my satellite provider's HD package; installed the PS3 media server software on my PC so that we're now wireless streaming movies from my computer to the TV... It's amazing what a difference 15 years makes in the field of A/V.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good receiver. It doesn't have the punch of a Denon(high curent amp),
but good just the same. It has all the features you need and many you may
never use. I love all the different sound fields. It was easy to set up. Crutchfield
has excellent shipping and service. I had this in 2 days after ordering. Great for
a medium sized room 14' x 16'. The remote is handy since all my gear is Sony
in this room. All in all a great buy.

This unit is good when just running it in 2 channel. But once you go to use the surround sound, the power just drops to nothing. I dont recommend this unit at all.

    Love it!

I bought one and I suggested it to another person and they bought one. I have to say I
like this amp it sounds so clear to my old Panasonic surround I had.
I will continue to recommend it to my friends for their next purchase.

Setup was a breeze. Love the HDMI switching! Have a PS3, Blu-Ray player and Cable
box hooked up to it. Everything hooked up to this receiver sounds great!! I like to fine
tune my own speaker listening taste, so I didn't use the included mic for speaker
calibration. I highly recommend this receiver! This was my first purchase from
Crutchfield and they have excellent customer service. Thanks, Crutchfield!

I replaced a 10 year old Sony amp with the Sony STRDH810. Installation was without problems. I found the automated balance to work well. Overall much better sound. I could have used an analog output for some deck speakers, but at the price no complaints.

    Does the job well...

Nice sound, Easy setup with auto calibration. HDMI I/O reduces cable clutter.
Lots of inputs. I bought this receiver because it was the shortest depth (12.6")
compared to others. My previous receiver stuck out like a sore thumb.I now have
this on full time and it drastically improved the sound quality on all content.
Although it's on most of the time it still runs cool.
Lots of great features and control to go with your particular setup.
    I would buy another.

    Amazing sound and quality

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Setup was easy, features are plentiful, and most importantly, it sounds fantastic. I have
been using Sony products exclusively in my home theater setups for the last 11 years,
and this is only my 2nd receiver in that time. The unit is a quality unit, and I cannot get
over the sound quality, esp on the HD audio tracks. My 11 year old Cambridge
Soundworks speakers have a new life now. The only difficulty I had was connecting my
Xbox via the component connection in the back, which apparently does not accept
anything greater than 480p, but that is not a negative, just something to be aware of.
Overall, I would recommend this unit to anyone, regardless of price!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good product overall. Great sound, versatile and programmable to suit most situations.
Doesn't really support a separate set of main speakers for a deck or patio. That's an issue
for me, but as I'm not using 7.1, I'm intending to use the 2nd set of front speaker outputs
outside on my deck. It's dead of winter here, so I'll try it in the Spring and see how well that
I did email Sony once to ask a couple of questions. I got a reply quickly, but not a
    knowledgeable or helpful one....
Sound is as good or better than my previous Technics and Yamaha receivers. I'm now
using my satellite receiver in one of the HDMI inputs, but my previous satellite receiver
had no HDMI output, so I first attempted to use the upscaling which looked terrible, real
terrible. I do appreciate the standby pass thru for the HDMI inputs so you can opt to use
the amp or just the source signal with the TV.
I would recommend the receiver overall.

    slow hdmi switching

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The only issues so far is that is can sometimes take a couple of minutes for the
receiver to recognize the hdmi input signal. Same thing when switching between
inputs, ie: going from satellite to blue ray or vice versa. Maybe it's my other
equipment, just not sure at the moment.

This receiver is a BIG bang for the buck. It has EVERYTHING and you will especially love
it if you are a SONY fan like I am. I learn something new and exciting about it each time I
power it on. The upconvert is out of this world. My friends think I got a new TV. Easy
hook up. Purchase this receiver and you won't look back.. I had zero buyer's remorse..

    Great "User Friendly" Receiver

Written by: Quick from Lagrange, OH on May 27, 2010

This is a great receiver! Upgraged projector to HDMI 1080P, and needed a receiver that could work for it. FOUND IT!! Very user friendly device. Love the ease of HDMI Audio/sound. Also like the ease of setting up the sound to throw it to right were you sit (With the little mic). This reciever makes my speakers sound better as well. My wife and I were sitting watching TV, and she said they sound great. She wouldn't say it--unless it was obvious. Great 7 channel speaker. No fear if you purchase this.

ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

Digital Inputs: The receiver has three optical digital inputs and one coaxial digital input. You can choose auto decoding or PCM for the digital audio inputs. Auto will decode the signal in its original form (Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM, etc), PCM decodes the signal to 2-channel. All the digital audio jacks will support 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, and 96 kHz sampling frequencies. Three of the 4 digital inputs are assignable, while one of the optical digital inputs is dedicated for TV.

Note: When you connect components to both digital and analog audio input jacks on the receive, you can fix the audio input mode to either of them, or switch from one to the other, depending on the type of material you intend to watch.

Front Panel AV Inputs: The STR-DH810 features a set of front panel inputs with left and right RCA audio jacks and a RCA composite video jack.

Headphones: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

Tuner: The STR-DH810 has 30 presets each for AM and FM for a total of 60. In addition to preset and auto tuning, stations can be tuned directly by frequency.

    Video Features

7 HD Inputs: The Sony STR-DH810 is equipped with seven HD inputs. Four HDMI inputs (up to 1080/24p capable) let you connect a high-definition satellite receiver, Blu-ray Disc player, and game system for high definition video and audio. Three component inputs (1080/60i capable) provide added HD-capable connectivity and versatility.

    • HDMI: The receiver is equipped with four HDMI (ver.1.4) inputs for connecting HDMI-equipped audio/video components. All three HDMI inputs are capable of carrying uncompressed digital audio and video up to 1080p. There is also an HDMI (v.1.4) output which supports the ARC function that feeds audio/video signals to an HDTV.
    • HD Component Video: This unit features three component video inputs and a component video monitor output. These jacks feature an 80 MHz bandwidth, making them capable of passing high-definition video signals.

HDMI Upconvert/Upscale: The AV receiver's HDMI upconvert/upscale function improves image quality of analog connected devices to near HD. Analog connected device signals (component/composite: 480i) are converted to digital, upscaled, and output via HDMI (480p, 720p, 1080, or 1080p), making one cable connection from the receiver to your TV possible.

HDMI Standby Pass-Through: The HDMI Standby Pass-Through feature conveniently allows you to access all your HDMI connected devices without having to power on the receiver .

24p True Cinema Mode: The 24p True Cinema Mode allows you to watch movies at their native frame rate 24p format (24 frames per second) when paired with a 24p playback device like a Blu-ray Disc Player.

x.v.Color: The AV receiver supports x.v.Color, offering a wider color range than the current broadcast standard. For the x.v.Color feature to be useful, the entire video production chain must be compatible (camera-editing-format-player-display).

Deep Color: The Sony receiver also supports Deep Color which allows the color depth of video signals passing through HDMI to be raised. The number of colors that could be expressed by 1 pixel was 24 bits (16,777,216 colors) with a standard HDMI jack. However, the number of colors which can be expressed by 1 pixel is 36 bits with a Deep Color enabled HDMI jack. Since the gradation of the depth of a color can be expressed more finely with more bits, continuous color changes can be more smoothly expressed.  For the Deep Color feature to be useful, the entire video production chain must be compatible (camera-editing-format-player-display).

Note: x.v. Color and Deep Color technology are supported only when source product, HDMI cable, media and HDTV all support those features.

3D-Ready: The Sony STR-DH810 is compatible with 3D-ready Blu-ray disc movies, video games and other 3D content through its HDMI (v.1.4) connections. *Firmware update may be required.

Note: 3D viewing requires 3D-ready source with 3D content, 3D-ready HDTV, 3D glasses, and high-speed HDMI cable. Other 3D accessories may also be needed.

A/V Sync: The audio output can be delayed so that the time gap between the audio output and the visual display is minimized. This is especially helpful when you are using a large LCD or plasma TV or a projection TV. When activated, the delay can be adjusted from 0 to 300ms (in 10 ms increments).

    Convenience Features

Input Naming: You can enter a name of up to 8 characters for each of the receiver's inputs (except Tuner) and display the name on its display. This is convenient for labeling the jacks with the names of your connected components.

Auto Standby: Auto Standby lets you set the receiver switch to standby mode automatically after 30 minutes when you do not operate the receiver or when there is no signal input to the receiver.

Sleep Timer: The unit may be set to automatically turn off after 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.

Dimmer: You can adjust the brightness of the display in 3 steps - Dim Max, Dim Mid, and Dim Off.

    Remote Control

Multibrand Remote: The supplied remote (RM-AAP049) is pre-coded to control this Sony receiver, Sony TVs, Sony CD players, Sony DVD players and recorders, and Sony Blu-ray disc players and recorders. You can also program this remote to control non-Sony audio/video components. You can also change the initial settings of the input buttons on the remote control to suit the components in your system.

Bravia Theater Sync: Sony's Bravia Theater Sync feature allows you to easily manage select BRAVIA televisions and Sony HDMI audio and video components with a single remote. By connecting Sony components that are compatible with the HDMI Control function with a HDMI cable, operation is simplified in the following ways.

    • One-Touch-Play: When you playback a component such as a DVD/Blu-ray Disc Player, the receiver and the TV are turned on automatically and switch to the appropriate HDMI input.
    • System Audio Control: While watching TV, you can select to output the sound from the TV speaker or the speakers connected to the receiver.
    • System Power Off: When you turn off the TV, the receiver and connected components are also turned off simultaneously.

    Optional Add-on Devices

Optional iPod/iPhone Dock: The Sony TDM-iP50 Digital Media Port adapter (158TDMIP50 , sold separately) for iPod/iPhone lets you enjoy your iPod/iPhone's audio, video, and photo content through your entertainment system by connecting the TDM-iP50 to the Sony audio/video receiver's Digital Media Port interface. For added convenience, the dock also charges your compatible iPod's battery. You can operate your iPod/iPhone by its own click-wheel or touch-screen, the control buttons of the Sony receiver, or the IR wireless remote control supplied with the Sony receiver.
