  • On-Screen Display Mode: This mode allows you to operate your iPod by the connected AV receiver's buttons or its remote while displaying the iPod information menus screen on your television. Your iPod's click-wheel or touch-screen will be locked,  and the Digital Media Port logo will appear on the iPod display during this mode. The On-screen menu will display the iPods Playlist indicating the following - Track Name, Artist name, Album name, Elapsed time, Currently playing track number/total of tracks, and Playback status (Play, Pause, Fast-forward or Rewind).

Battery Charger: The TDM-iP50 will charge all of the above listed iPods while docked. The TDM-iP50 must be connected to your Sony AV receiver and your sony receiver needs to be powered on.

Screen Saver: The Screen Saver image appears on your TV after about 15 minutes of inactivity when you have the TDM-iP50 and your iPod connected to your Television.

Color Theme: You can select the on-screen display color for the connected television. You can choose from Auto (selected automatically by your iPod), White, Black, Green, Red, or Blue.

Connections: The Sony TDM-iP50 features an Apple dock connector for connection of your iPod. The TDM-iP50 Digital Media Port iPod adapter connects to your compatible Sony receiver's Digital Media Port (DMPORT), which is normally located on the rear panel of the amplifier, via its attached 6' proprietary cable. This cable supplies audio, video and control from your iPod to your Sony receiver and your receiver will then output the video to your television through its monitor out. The TDM-iP50 also features a 3.5mm minijack video output that can output a video signal directly to your TV when you are using a Sony receiver that does not feature a monitor output via the supplied 7' minijack-to-composite-RCA video cable.

Pricey but Works

Written By DaveW, Michigan on Tuesday, April 26, 2011

I give this product 4 stars rather than 5 for two reasons. First, I thinks its a bit
high in price for what it does. You COULD do the same thing with a cable
except for the video part but I don't use that anyways. So, I guess you are
paying for the convenience. Second, it comes with inserts for the mating part
so that your iPod or iPhone fits nicely onto the dock. But, my iPod 4th Gen
wouldn't fit properly with either of the supplied inserts. It could be because I
have a small protective case for my Touch but almost everyone does, right?

Otherwise, it worked right out of the box and mated with the Sony HT-CT350
sound bar (now discontiunued) without any drame. In minutes I had music
coming out and I like being able to control the iPod music from the remote of
the sound bar, I didn't know it would do that, COOL.

Flawless

Written By Jeff, Virginia on Thursday, March 10, 2011

I mated this dock up with a sony HT CT150 sound bar and my sony bravia tv.
Sounds incredible and works flawlessly with the sony remote. I have a
iphone4 and no issues at all with audio and video! Love this product, works as
advertised. I love being able to charge my iphone while cranking the tunes!

Sony TDM-IP50

Written By Chris, Wytheville, Va on Thursday, February 03, 2011

Works as advertised. I like the ability to select (via push button on the
IP50) whether to control the iPod via the receiver/TV or iPod screen. Very easy
to use and works great. Sounds as good as compressed music can sound also,
which is fine with me.

no video with original iPhone and CT100

Written By gb, seattle, wa on Saturday, April 03, 2010

This is quite pricey for what it is. If you have an original iPhone, save your money and just connect a mini-jack (3.5mm) cable from the iPhone dock to the RCA inputs on your TV or CT100 or stereo.

SONY does it again!

Written By Toby, Davidsonville, MD on Friday, February 12, 2010

I ordered this iPod dock to go along with my STRDN1000 SONY receiver and it works
seemlessly. I highly recommend this product...its better than any I've seen
before and, when plugged into the Digital Media Port in the back of your
receiver, it charges your iPod. You also have the option to plug a video cable
to your TV as well...but I didn't feel that was necessary for my needs. I'm
content with just being hooked into the receiver and controlling the iPod's
music from
either the iPod OR via the remote for my receiver. Brilliant work again
SONY...I give this one the full five stars!!!

Fit my Needs Perfectly

Written By , Fishers, IN on Sunday, October 04, 2009

Just got this dock to hook up to a recently purchased Sony HT-CT100 soundbar for a family room. The number of inputs on the bar is limited, but it does have the Sony DM Port input so this was my best option. Hook up was a breeze and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. The 6' cord may be a little short for some depending on their setup, but just long enough for mine. Sound is good through the soundbar. The On Screen Display is pretty ugly and generic with no album art, but will probably rarely use it. I will just be docking the ipod and listening to music and the TV will probably not even be on. Can't comment on the HDMI video output quality as my older Samsung DLP has DVI input only and won't accept the HDMI passthrough from the sound bar. Had to hook it up via composite which is not the best quality, but I don't use my Ipod for video much. Quality will be fine for viewing pictures though. Highly recommended product for connecting to another Sony product with the DM Port.

video not great

Written By bfunzone, newport, ca on Thursday, September 24, 2009

My Sony DAV-HDZ273 dvd player states that it will show video with this adapter. It does not play though HDMI and you are forced to use the RCA cable which degrades the video considerably. Otherwise convenient and audio is clear.

Sony TDM-IP50

Written By Robert, APO on Tuesday, September 01, 2009

Does what I wanted it to do, play my new iPOD 2nd generation touch through my home system. Everything I have is Sony, so there were no problems getting everything to work together.

Good but short of expectation!

Written By Ramon, Miami, FL on Saturday, July 25, 2009

The product works good and is easy to install. Review if your Sony equipment is compatible for this before you buy it, you might need the video cable (included) to get the visuals on the TV, instead of being merged with the audio through the HDMI connection of your TV and the Entertainment Center.
The graphics could be improved, they are plain & simple for a Sony. The sound quality depends on the quality of the song and the Entertainment Center.
