Does not work with Windows 7 64bit

Written By , Wyoming on Sunday, May 16, 2010

If you read the information carefully you see that it requires Windows XP or Vista. They mean just that. Since I purchased my unit in December and just upgraded my computer to Windows 7, it was a shock that there was not any software upgrade available. Sony in a series of e-mails basiclly said sorry. There was no indication that they planned to provide any upgrades. Not the response that I would expect from a company like Sony.

Sony TDM-NC1

Written By Kurt, Brainerd MN on Monday, February 02, 2009

I purchased this mainly as a means to stream internet radio. The TDM-NC1 needs to fed by media server software, in which is included with it: M-Crew Media Server. I checked Sony's web site and found both new releases of M-Crew software and firmware for the TDM-NC1, which I downloaded. Everything updated OK & installed OK, although the firmware update instructions are a bit cryptic. The M-Crew software will only accept internet radio stations with URLs that have an ".asx" extension. So this eliminated several of the radio stations I was hoping to receive. It will link music libraries from one Windows Media Player directory, so thought must be given to how you structure your Windows Media Library. I also had problems with M-Crew locking up if I utilized VPN on the same PC, while actively streaming a radio station to the TDM-NC1. This required a PC re-start to restore operation. I suppose the M-Crew software is required to stream internet radio. However, if you are just looking for access to your Windows Media Player library, my Directv HD DVR and Pioneer Plasma (wired, not wi-fi) both include that as a standard feature and will access Windows Media Player directly without another software application. The installation/owner's manuals are available for download from Sony's web site, so you may want to consult them before purchasing to make sure it will fit your application and fulfill your expectations.
