Sony's WX-GT90BT CD receiver begins its impressive list of features with built-in Bluetooth. You can pair up your mobile phone and talk hands-free when you get a call, plus you can stream the music stored on your mobile device wirelessly to this Sony receiver — it adds a new level of convenience and capability to your car's audio system. Even cooler, you can choose from over 35,000 colors to customize the big display on this receiver. No matter the model or make of your car, it'll look right at home in the dash.
You can choose from thousands of colors for the display.
If you've got a smartphone, you know it has a lot more going for it than just Bluetooth, and with the WX-GT90BT you can tap into some of your phone's many capabilities. Sony's App Remote feature turns smartphone interactivity into a two-way street. With your phone's touchscreen, you can do things like selecting sources, picking radio stations, and launching apps. From your Sony receiver, you can select apps using the stereo's source button, the same way you'd choose the CD player or radio as your source. And, with your Android™ phone paired up, this receiver will read any incoming text messages out loud, so you can keep your eyes on the road..
The features are fun, but you'll really appreciate this Sony if you care about sound quality. The WX-GT90BT features an impressive array of sound-shaping tools, including a 7-band EQ, digital time alignment for a perfect stereo "sweet spot," and frequency filters that'll make your speaker setup shine. And Sony's powerful Digital Reality amp, noted for its solid sound output and realistic audio reproduction, will drive your speakers with crisp authority.
Pop in a CD, plug your iPhone® or iPod® into the USB input, or browse your favorite Pandora® Internet radio stations from the receiver's controls — you've got plenty of options. And you can add on a SiriusXM tuner (subscription required), if you want to experience an unparalleled variety of news, talk, sports, and music.
In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.
Note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.
iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.
Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.
Great sound for the price. So far, relatively easy to figure out functions.
Pros: Configurable display color. Intuitive ease of use. Sound quality.
Cons: Display is very simplistic but none other than that.
First aftermarket head unit in over a decade, I was torn between so many options. Seeing as everything else I own is Sony, I figured why not... Install was insanely easy and straightforward, fit/finish are nice, and sound (upgraded stock speakers as well) is equally impressive. The app is pretty handy, but can't comment at length as I haven't messed with it much.
Superb customer service before AND after the sale. Earned a lifetime customer. Thanks!
Pros: Easy install, easy interface, plenty of power & functions for this price point.
Cons: Routing and mounting the microphone is a little goofy. If I were Sony, I'd integrate the mic into the unit if that's possible.
I've had this radio for a few weeks in my 2005 Yukon. My 2014 Sierra came with Sirius and got me hooked so, I upgraded the radio in the Yukon to get Sirius and make it easier to play my music catalog. I picked this Sony for the price, and it didn't require removal of a dash support to install. I naively thought the big display would have more information when in use. Crutchfield left the trim/install kit out of the package and I had to wait a week to do the install. The install wasn't very difficult which is good because the instructions are vague. Still, it took hours since this is the first radio that I've replaced in 15 years and routing the Sirius antenna takes a bit of time. I got the upgraded harness so I could use the steering wheel controls. Many have already discussed the brightness of the display which is mediocre and the dim feature is next to worthless. But my big gripe is the display format options. I want the time to display so there is only one option per source that shows the time. For some idiotic reason, the huge display shows very little information. With the time showing, the rest of the display tells you almost nothing. What a waste of a large display and shame on me for thinking that Sony couldn't be so stupid to waste it. "Coolness" is in the eye of the beholder and useless is never cool in my eye. And finally, the interface with my steering wheel controls is mediocre, too. Volume works great. The rest, not so great.
Pros: Sounds great. Fit nicely in Yukon. My music catalog is on a Sandisk Cruzer Fit 16Gig low profile flash drive that fits in the USB port and barely protrudes. The radio plays the music flawlessly. This is the single best feature of the radio. Sirius works great. Radio seems to work well with through the air AM and FM.
Cons: Hands down...the display. What a disappointment! So much area and so little information displayed. Display options are pathetic. It's as if the Sony engineers programmed this part in the waning minutes of a Friday afternoon. 3 Stars because of the display which should be an embarrassment to Sony. The steering wheel controls don't interface properly with the radio.
Only installed for a few days. Still learning how to program it. Work is getting in the way. This is my third Sony car receiver and I love the sound. Looks good also. Have installed aftermarket radios for a long time. Sony is a good choice.
Pros: Sounds great. Looks good.
Cons: Little trouble programing but I'll get there.
I bought this unit to replace the factory stereo in my 07 Colorado. I had a few basic desires: I wanted my phone to stream through bluetooth without a lot of hoops to jump through or apps to download, and I wanted it to be fairly simple to operate, and I wanted it to be easy on the eyes without looking like it was vomited out of a Power Rangers nightmare. This thing nailed it in all areas. The bluetooth operation couldn't have been simpler to set up or use. It automatically hooks up to my phone when I turn the key, then plays my streaming music, and even hooks natively into Pandora without a special app on my phone (besides the normal one)! The one big knob on the front handles all the settings in an easy to understand manner and is pretty intuitive without being condescending. Finally, in my opinion, the looks of the stereo are understated while looking unmistakably modern and sleek. My only gripe is that the faceplate is not removable. Since I park in the street I have to leave my Malaysian Fighting Trout in his bowl on the dash to protect it while I sleep. He'll cut a sucka what tries to abscond with my tunes... I really couldn't be much happier with my purchase. The price was great for all the features, too. I'm honestly glad I found it.
Pros: Modern look; flawless bluetooth functionality; pretty easy to use; good price and good name
Cons: Non-removable faceplate; not waterproof for when my security system has to splash around to do his job; clock function is weird for me during playback.
Great product. Went right in my 2000 Jetta. Sounds Great. Looks Great.
Pros: Great sound Great looks Change display to match your car Bluetooth matched up with Samsung Galaxy S6, take phone calls and stream music, no issues at all
Cons: None so far
This head unit has been installed for about 2 weeks in my 2004 Ford Ranger XLT. Time was taken to solder the connections and insulate with heat-shrink tubing, which was simple enough as the adapter wiring and the Sony unit's wiring were well matched color wise and the Sony unit wiring disconnected from the unit with a simple plug. Installation was more difficult than anticipated as there were conditions that occurred in the Ranger's radio bay that do not appear in the installation instructions, such as the screws securing the dash bezel intrude into the space occupied by the new head unit and must be shortened. Removing the Ranger's bezel is recommended and then make the necessary modifications to it on a work bench. The use of the Dremel in the vehicle creates an awful mess. The installation kit included with this unit has exposed trim that marred the bezel when pressed into place. The unit itself has a light hiss of static in the radio. Crutchfield's tech assistance thought it was no big deal if it couldn't be heard while driving while admitting it shouldn't be there. Even with the microphone gain set at maximum, people on the other end of the conversation have difficulty hearing me unless I speak abnormally loud. I like the large letter display, even if it is a single line. Button characters as especially small and difficult to read from the driver's position. CD playback sound quality is excellent. Light color closely mimics the dash lights. Operator manual a must use!
Pros: Excellent sound. Fairly intuitive controls for most functions. Large display letters. Installation kit is complete with wiring and component parts. Perfect wiring fit.
Cons: Not an easy install. Installation instructions incomplete and installer must be able to make adjustments "on the fly". Noticeable low static hiss in the radio at low volume settings. Required trimming of bezel will require replacement of this part if you ever want to reinstall the original unit. I could care less about any "cool factor".
This unit is well worth the money. The installation was very simple. Everything works as it should. BT for phone works well and hands free sounds good. I didn't realize the loss in sound quality in streaming music through BT so I only use the aux input. That's not the fault of the unit. Nice EQ and overall sound. I would like the display to have more lines and smaller font so that more info could be seen at once. It integrated nicely with the steering wheel controls in my 2006 Ford Fusion. This was my first aftermarket stereo in several years and I didn't want to spend a lot. It sounds good and I'm using my Samsung Galaxy 5 for most of my music. I am very pleased with the value and Crutchfield support is stellar!
Pros: Value. Sound Quality. Looks great in the dash. Works great with steering wheel controls and Bluetooth.
Cons: The text display could be better.
great receiver not to complex to learn, but seems to be high quality
I have installed this head unit into two of my cars at this point and have to say it performs well across the board. Great sound quality with Sony's signature preference for bass-driven systems. Easy to navigate once you familiarize yourself with the controls and the color variations allows you to match the color of the stereo to mirror any interior lighting; this was my favorite part, as I love a stock look. All in all, this little Sony performs well, sounds great, and offers great looks, all in an inexpensive package.
Pros: Sound Build Quality Stock look Quality of Sound on bluetooth
Cons: Bluetooth occasionally skips on phone audio
In installed this a few weeks ago and I am very happy with this deck. Easy to install with the Crutchfield instructions. My few complaints with this unit are that the dimmer is does not dim enough in my mind (I like my dash to be super dim at night) but the color changing dimmer helps a lot. There are also a TON of input modes with Bluetooth and you are unable to disable the ones that you don't use so you have to cycle through a lot of unused options to get to the input source you want. I also have a small problem with the Bluetooth voice commands with my phone, and it might be because of how my phone is set up. My Windows Phone has most of the voice commands independent from a particular category, So if I am listening to BT audio, and I make a voice text or voice call, I have to set the deck back to BT audio, it will not seamlessly change back to my previous audio when the voice is done. If an incoming call or text comes in, the deck will revert back to where it was.
The setup can be somewhat lengthy and is not as user friendly as I would hope, but what do you expect with many advanced features that I have never had in a deck before. Other than that, the sound is great and the equalizer has enough presets to satisfy my needs. It plays my CDs and gets good radio reception. It is a great unit for the price I paid for it. I am 95% satisfied with this unit.
Pros: Great sound and lots of features
Cons: Bluetooth is not quite as streamlined as I would like, but it could be my phone. Setup and configuration is lengthy.
I love this tuner. It sounds awesome with my Bose speakers
Pros: Sound, looks, options
Cons: Cumbersome procedure to set features.
I purchased this for a replacement for my 1997 F-150. I needed am/fm,CD and USB functions. This was a good choice. I really enjoy the sound quality with my original speakers. Installation was straight forward but time consuming and difficult. You must carefully cut away parts of the dash after the old radio is out. If you cut too much, you can't easily cover it up or fix it, so be very careful. I have installed many radios in assorted vehicle over the past 30 years(not my full time job), and this installation took me 3 hours. Be prepared. The installation is not for a beginner or first time installer. Beware. After all of this, I am still happy with this purchase. I used the wiring kit and the dash kit. Do not try this without these components. The end result will be much more professional and your installation will be much less frustrating.
Pros: Great sound. Much better than my factory system. Sony is a good name with a quality product.
Cons: It is difficult to install (1997 F-150) requiring major sub dash surgery. Be prepared to spend some time to install correctly in a similar application. I find that it has too many functions. Many more than I will need or use. It takes a while to learn all the functions and how to get from one source to the other. It probably doesn't need so many color/display functions.
This unit provided excellent sound, even with factory speakers in my truck. In addition, a couple of my friends who listened to the new sound also were impressed. I am extremely pleased with the purchase.
Pros: Excellent sound, even with factory speakers
Cons: Display is difficult to see during the daylight hours.
Great head unit with tons of features. Took about a day to get used to the menu style and the buttons, but once you know what each one does and where stuff is, it's actually quite intuitive. Screen is nice and big. Sounds and looks great in my 02 mustang gt. Matches the interior well and is plenty loud. Also, the seven band equalizer works really well to tune the unit with my stock Mach system. Good unit, would recommend it to anyone looking for a little more quality and better sound than a low end head unit.
Pros: Sound Color changing Nice look Screen
The unit speaks for itself...
Pros: Good to go...
Cons: Miner con is that the illumination light around the dial is too bright at night even after turning the "dimmer off" on the unit. It would be nice if the wiring harness had the (orange) wire to connect to do so...
I never thought the stock speakers in my '05 Subaru Legacy wagon could sound so good, well worth the money.
Wanted a new stereo for my Subaru Forester, and started out at the local car audio place here in town...by the time everything was purchased and installed, the quote was for over $1100.00 dollars..I figured there had to be a better way, so I found Crutchfield online. I waffled around several options, before finally settling on this one, as it seemed to have better Android integration than some of the others at this price point. Overall, it seems to work well, the sound quality is good (although folks say that it sounds "buzzy" when I'm talking through the Bluetooth mic)...for someone who has no technical or mechanical skills, I was able to wire the harness, take my dash apart, install the unit and put everything back together again in about 2 hours. Online videos helped a lot.
Two things -
#1 - price of the unit just went down $30.00 fro when I bought just a couple of weeks ago...does Crutchfield do price adjustments like a brick and mortar retailer would?
#2 - The website told me to buy an antenna adapter...that was not necessary. The antenna plug from my Subaru fit into the unit with no problem and the tuner works perfectly.
Pros: Easy to install, feature rich, cool colors, good sound
Cons: Dim display in full daylight, the buttons feel cheap, and Crutchfield sold me a product that I did not need for the installCrutchfield response on September 14, 2015 Thanks for the review. I see where our Customer Support team has responded to your price drop question and the antenna adapter. Thanks for letting us know about the antenna adapter. That's very helpful to both us and our customers. Please know our research team is re-reviewing those details. It's possible there was something unique with your vehicle. You also mentioned that you sound "buzzy" when talking on your Bluetooth. Our techs might have some ideas to help you troubleshoot further.
It replaced the double din receiver in my '06 Mustang GT. It fits like a glove and matches perfectly to the interior. I use the USB almost exclusively. Audio is rich even with factory speakers. I am now sold on the Sony and a bit spoiled by the quality. How I lived with the Shaker 500 I'll never know.
Much better than the nostalgic stock radio in my 2003 Envoy that actually had a cassette player in it!!
Pros: So many features, such quality & versatility
I replaced the stock receiver in my 2005 Tahoe with this unit and it's great. Installation was easy and it sound great. The bluetooth picked up my iPhone right away and that works great too. I got a 4gig stubby USB memory stick for MP3s - that works great too. Easy to install, great sound, more features that I could ever use - what more could I ask (oh, I got it on sale - there is that too). One star off for 'ease of use' - there are so many features that it takes a bit to learn your way around (lots of features is a double edged sword).
Pros: Easy to install, great sound, tons of features.
Cons: I guess if it was free.
All the options, aftermarket wiring was a little intimidating at first but Crutchfield supplied all the necessary instructions. Installed in a 2008 Dodge Ram. I had to revise the radio bezel which took about 1/2 hour and Crutchfield supplied the new trim.
Pros: Neat, clean look. The color options match the existing dash lights which makes it appear factory.
Cons: The radio controls are a little difficult to navigate but after three days it became easy to go from one mode to another.
The factory radio in my wife car quit. I installed this as a replacement. The old radio did not have any features compared to this one. Bluetooth audio and phone is the main upgrade. Nice unit.
Pros: Bluetooth audio and phone, multi-color display, easy installation
Cons: Dimmer does not work with a 2005 Camry. I need to investigate this one more.
I absolutely love this receiver. I've never had any issues with it in the 2+ years I've owned it. Works perfectly and allows great customization options for sound and appearance. I always get compliments on this receiver and it looks great.
Pros: Aesthetic, Ease of Use, Functionality, Sound Quality
Cons: None. Price maybe, but even so it's pretty fair.
Looks good and menus are easy to follow. Sound is excellent with lots of customization. Rear bass enhancement puts extra punch in your rear speakers, which is great if you don't have a sub. Software allows you to position the sound, by delaying the rear speakers a few milliseconds to make the music sound like it is the middle of the car. Usb and Pandora work great, even charges the phone, iPhone or Android. MP3 ads get a boost from digital music enhancement, which bump up the lows and highs that are usually lost by compression. Button feel sturdy, quality build.
Pros: Sound, sub, Pandora
Cons: Equalizer adjustment is weird in that you select 1 of the 7 bands and then adjust it up or down, then back up in the menu and move to another band to adjust it.
A very nice replacement for the factory dash unit in my 2005 Mustang. Not too difficult to install. I had to call for help one time due to a wiring question. A small amount of soldering required on the combining of the 2 wiring harness adapters. Pretty easy, since it can be done on the bench before dash installation. I used all the recommended adapters and harnesses. The side wings on the unit were a little difficult to attach, you have to push down really hard while screwing in. The microphone wire is kind of a pain to run under the pillar cover so that it is unseen, but it is worth installing. The handsfree calling is a nice feature! Once installed, the unit looks great in the dash. I don't know if I did something wrong, but my radio illumination doesn't dim with my vehicle dimmer, or when I turn on my lights. I'm not going to open up my dash again to remedy that! This unit sounds great and works very well with my factory speakers, subwoofers and amps. (shaker 500 system). One thing I don't like is that the display simultaneously doesn't show the time of day with the other info, like tuner station or cd info. If you want the time of day displayed, it is all you get on the display. Overall, this product was pretty easy to install and it sounds great!
Pros: Great sound, colorful display, not too difficult to install.
Cons: Display shows only time of day or source functions separately, not together. A little tedious to navigate through the menus to adjust tone settings.
No issues on install. Just be sure to look at all the wiring diagrams for interconnectivity between the different components. Works and looks great. Read the instructions and you will be fine operating it.
Pros: Looks good. Seems easy to run.
Cons: Read all the wiring diagrams before install
Its worth what it costs. Its a good unit, looks like its geared a little toward 16- 20 year olds. Most of the custom features/settings are a little gimmicky, IE: The millions of colors to choose from, how easy it is to set the pre-loaded eq settings but difficult to make a custom one, its pretty much plug and play. Sounds good, i wouldn't recommend for anyone wanting to add an amp for your speakers and subs, seems like it would take a lot of effort to get to sound right if you were trying to build an entire system. But perfect for someone who just wants a new, easy to use, headuint with all the new features (BT, iphone, etc)
Pros: Plug and play
Cons: difficult to really customize audio
I read many reviews before I purchased this unit. Most of them talked about the difficulty they had navigating through the menu and the clock display being hard to see. I have not had any problem with any of it. If you take you time with the manual, and just be patient with the operation of the menu, it really becomes easy to navigate in a short amount of time.
Pros: Awesome sound. Bluetooth operation is quick and seamless. Display looks very cool. Plenty of expansion options for upgrading your system. Everything it was designed to do, it does very well.
I have always been a Sony fan boy ever since my first Walkman. I installed this in a '99 Ranger with a extended cab and pair it up with 4 Pioneer TS-A6885R 4 way speakers. Awesome highs and lows all the way around. Works great with my Sony Z3V phone, too. Audio files from the phone play well. I made sure this supported Aux inputs, but the sound over wireless is near perfect, haven't even cared to test over Aux it yet. Make sure your phone supports A2DP. I don't bother with the remote that came with the stereo, since I can do it all from my phone with the Remote app(you don't need a Sony phone, just an Android OS). The remote app lets you add just about anything that you want as an audio source. I am currently using the Walkman and Audible apps. There are a ton of settings and I still haven't been through them all. Got the color set to match my dash lights, very cool. I still need to see if I can hook up my phone to my PS4 while sitting out in the truck and listen to the PS4 over the stereo while playing some games.
Pros: Great sound and plenty of power. BT phone and audio Easy to install with the wire and dash kit. Remote app.
Cons: Remote app won't completely load all options unless you hold the button on the stereo for a couple seconds until you hear it beep. Would be nice just to have it all once Bluetooth connects. Setting the equalizer can be pain. You have to select the band on the dial, press to select, adjust, back out, select the next, etc... and you can only see one setting at a time. Presets come in handy.
I've always trusted the Sony and have never been disappointed and this receiver was no exception. I wanted a receiver with good clear sound not something that was loud and boomy and this perfect. The looks are great but not too flashy like some others.
As soon as I took it out of the box I could tell it was heavy and well made. The unit went in without a hitch and sounds great.
Pros: Good price and sound with a ton of features. Good looks, but not flashy or a lot of bling.
Still figuring it out. Some things came easy others not so much. If you need a basic stereo with Bluetooth then this is a great unit.
Pros: For the price it did everything I needed
Cons: Have a galaxy note 4. When your set up for hands free phone use you can't play music from your phone. I knew this going in but still sucks. Can't use voice dialing with my phone.
So far so good with this unit. Installation was relatively easy. Bluetooth handsfree works as advertised and the clarity on the other end of the call is good. Audio quality is far superior to the factory unit it replaced.
Pros: Good price, easy installation, everything works as advertised.
Cons: Controls take a little getting used to.
This unit fit my needs for replacing my factory stereo in a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. It has a lot of features for the price and looks really great. It is a little difficult to maneuver through the menus, but I expected that when I purchased the unit.
Pros: Price. Sound.
Cons: Doesn't have more than one line for information on display. For a double DIN it would have been nice to have more info displayed
After many orders fulfilled by the Crutchfield Team I am actually writing a review on a product. I got this unit for my nephew who loves his I-Phone 5. The sound blew him away, the look, the build quality, best. I know this sounds like really high praise for a cd player, but he Never gives praise for almost anything. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys streaming their sounds or using the USB input. The best purchase I made in quite some time.
Pros: Tuner pulls in Connecticut stations, I'm in New York. Pairs up and connects in seconds, crystal clear Controls I-Phone easily
Cons: First set-up tough if not familiar with installs ie: Running the mic wire through the lower dash and a-pillar
This is a great head unit for the price. 6 channels was perfect for my setup. Easy install. Intuitive controls. I read reviews where people couldn't see the display in daylight. I find that to be a non issue. Very easy to see in the sunlight.
This head unit is decent, but it's not amazing. Most of the interface limitations are the result of the single-line display. The options for browsing USB drives/iOS devices are very limited and clunky (the default way of browsing iPod libraries is by album). While it has a lot of audio options, in my vehicle, they seemed a little gimmicky. The stereo definitely beat the stock Honda HU in terms of clarity at low volumes, but it also got muddy very quickly when the volume and bass frequencies came up. On that note, the EQ interface is strange--it displays the frequencies you're adjusting as "Band 1," "Band 2," etc.--the manual does list what each band is in Hz, but why Sony doesn't have that display on the unit instead of "Band 1" is beyond me. Bluetooth streaming audio was very low quality compared to a USB connection. Obviously USB will be better in most situations, but I've used other stereos where the differences, especially in a car, were negligible. Bluetooth calling quality was also mediocre.
Pros: Easy to install, quick startup.
Cons: Single-line display, clunky interface.
I bought this unit because I had a very similar unit in my Jeep and was fairly satisfied with it. It has exceptional hands free smart phone sound quality both incoming and outgoing. The sound quality of the unit is very good without getting a custom set up. I have had some issues with this unit so far. It has cut out several times for a second then come right back on, however I do live in WV where the roads are not the smoothest in the lower 48. I let my Sirius account lapse, but the unit didn't come with an adapter to allow me to plug the Ram Sirius cable into the rear of the unit. Crutchfield does a decent job of organizing what you need for self install but they dropped the ball on the Sirius connect, The controls could be more intuitive but you get used to them. I also lost my clock interface on my dashboard.
Pros: Hands free smart phone capability is exceptional and way better than most dealer installed units. The sound quality is very good and I don't think can be beat unless you go 'high end.'
Cons: The default mode is the demo mode and any issues lead back to this mode. Controls could be more intuitive.
I was looking for a subdued/stock looking faceplate compared to some of the other stereos on the market with great sound and aux input capabilities. I installed this stereo with Kicker speakers/tweeters in my 2006 GMC Sierra. No dash modifications required. Steering wheel controls work perfect w/ Metra ASWC-1 adapter. Original Metra LC-GMRC-01 connection/chimes adapter did not allow stereo lighting to automatically dim with headlights turned on. Crutchfield quickly researched/shipped replacement (Crux SOCGM-17).lights dim properly now. Even with lighting properly dimmed, volume knob ring & call button are very bright at night. Blacked out volume knob ring with black felt-type material and used small square of electrical tape on call button face. Inconspicuous fix, looks factory much easier on the eyes at night (can be adjusted with darker color option also).
Pros: Top-notch customer tech support. Easy install. Multiple color options to match stock dash lighting. Front USB/Aux input. Stock appearance.
Cons: Bright volume knob/call button lighting. Does not display clock and RDS information at same time, must toggle between displays.
This system brought great new sound to our son's truck. Thought we might need an amp but, we blocked out on the frequencies below 120 Hz to the door speakers and driving all the lows out of the subs. Now I want to put one in my truck.
Pros: Fits, color match the OEM dash lights, great sound and control.
Cons: The EQ adjustment the app shows will not work. Not sure if Sony is doing an update or the app just does not work well with the iPhone 5.
The stereo was simple enough to set up, sounds good even through my stock speakers, and looks great in my dashboard. The bluetooth gets a lot of use in my car, and the auto connect feature is fantastic. It has thousands of color options, but I'll likely just leave it on one color.
Pros: Looks unique, has a big volume knob, easy to remember button layout. Sounds good, has the app remote option for control over the unit from a phon.
Cons: Display is rather dim in the desert sun, and I have yet to find anything about adjusting brightness, only the dimmer option. Sometimes loses connection with the phone and says no device, even if the phone says it is connected.
Great head unit
I installed this using the adapter wiring for my F250 and the installation kit. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. I had the installation done in one morning including the sirrusXM radio and the steering wheel control adapter.
Pros: Easy to install, Blue tooth sounds good.
I bought this stereo mainly for the Bluetooth capabilities and I have not been disappointed. My phone connects quickly and works exactly like it should. Overall the sound quality is very good on my VW Monsoon speakers. Some of the settings are buried in the menus, but its a relatively minor inconvenience. I've only had it installed for a couple of weeks, but no complaints so far.
Pros: Bluetooth connectivity works as expected, front USB and Aux inputs, easy setup despite having to dig deep to find some settings in the menus
Cons: Some settings hard to find in menus, would like to see display menu rotate between artist / track / album info instead of only having one of those show contantly (without hitting a button to switch)
Sounds great. Bluetooth works great. Great for the money. Would be great if it cost $100 more. One of the best I've ever had.
Overall this is a great double dim aftermarket radio. Ease of use is perfect and sound quality is great. Highly recommend.
Pros: Value, design/style, ease of use, and build quality.
I received the sony radio as promised, can't beat the Crutchfield shipping! I called the tech dept. twice for a black wiring answer to a question and it was answered promptly and profession. Again, can't beat the Crutchfield team!
Pros: Radio plays terrifically, very happy and satisfied with the overall quality, reception and fit. There are many, many features that are inside this unit that I probably won't use but that is me.
Cons: As with other owners, the color scheme that is chosen doesn't stay as programmed and needs to be re-set and various times, the display itself can't be scene in daylight hours and Especially when there is sunlight, the glare is terrible.
I love this receiver except.........the insanely bright display. Especially the back-lighting behind the knob that controls every single function. There is an infinite amount of adjustment and sound tailoring. You can set this receiver up with amps and subs........you don't need anything else. All the crossovers are built in along with a 7 band EQ which is assignable for every source. I know it sounds like this is the perfect non-nav receiver and it could be.......except for that bright display. I have it connected correctly with the orange wire to the orange wire and the display Does dim when the headlights come on, just not enough. I think it is gonna be a deal breaker for me. If it is installed lower in a dash it may be ok but I have it in a Wrangler which has the radio mounted very high, just an inch or so below the top of the dash and it is like driving with a light shined in your eyes. I actually drive with my hand covering the display. I cannot recommend this receiver based solely on the brightness of the display.
Pros: Great sound, complete adjustability, ability to be the center of your high end system with no outboard crossovers or EQ needed. Nice look during the day.
Cons: Insanely bright display. So bright that it is going back. Lack of basic bass and treble controls. All SQ adjustments have to be with a 7 band EQ or by using pre-set curves. Teh & band EQ is almost worthless without a spectrum analyzer to see what your adjustments are doing.
I bought this unit because it fit my budget and needs. This particular purchase was a "scratch and dent". Even so, it was in great condition. I only had one hiccup during installation. I called the support number and the issue was resolved very quickly.
Pros: easy install with suggested/required accessories.
Cons: Initial use was not user friendly. I had to actually read how to work the unit.
Bought this for my new set up in my Nissan Titan. Despite what Crutchfield says, this fits beautifully into any Titan. No mods needed at all, other than the wiring harness. Sound is great, easy to use and hook up. I have had no issues at all. Love this head unit. this is running two amps. One for my. 6x9's, 6 1/2's and 4 tweeters. The other for my bazooka. Crisp, clean and effortless through the entire sound spectrum. Can't go wrong with this bad boy!!
Pros: Everything. Literally everything in it works perfectly. Not a single issue.
Excellent quality, great sound!
After initial installation, which was fairly straight forward, we noticed that the volume control knob did not respond. You could turn the knob, but nothing happened with the volume. You could push the knob, which would prompt a response, but turning the knob did not provide any adjustment options. It was as if the stereo/radio didn't even have a knob. The remote control could be used to control the volume, but the remote couldn't be used for making appropriate settings. So, Crutchfield promptly replaced the first one. After installing the 2nd unit, about a week later the control knob began failing again. It would work intermittently, but eventually stopped working altogether. Again, Crutchfield quickly replaced this unit and I decided to go with an entirely different brand.
While most of the reviews on this unit have been positive, the brand/unit has production flaws. I read some similar reviews that experienced this same problem.
Pros: Good sound quality with good options (USB, AUX inputs, Satellite) for the price.
Cons: Build quality. Faulty unit production on this model
Install is standard. Disclaimer: fronts/sub going through an amp, rears off receiver. Coming from a Pioneer (AppRadio 2) I was disappointed to only have +-6 dB of adjustment in the EQ. At first I was convinced the EQ adjustments weren't doing anything. It was only after I listened with much more focus that I could tell subtle differences. On any stereo i've ever head you could push the bass so high it was muddled and so low it sounded like tweeters only. Not with this unit, only a small change from middle-ground. Radio does sound much better than my previous unit.
One annoyance is that the unit advertises smart phone control over inputs, apps, etc. The caveat (listed in the manual) is that you cannot have this control and BT audio. Using BT audio kills any of this integration. That is a pretty big omission from the marketing materials if you ask me. I may end up running a short AUX cable, but I really rather not have one more wire dangling off my phone and have to connect/reconnect just to get that functionality.
Another note for people planning to use their smartphone. You don't need the USB cable (which does charge your phone) connection to the HU to switch tracks and pause on apps like Spotify that support those commands over bluetooth. Saves a step on short trips.
Pros: Looks great for a double-DIN w/o LCD BT audio sounds great
Cons: No simultaneous BT audio and smartphone control EQ adjustments seem to have a very small range of adjustment
Honda Pilot 2004 w/ Navigation Installation - Once I found the mounting kit (Metra 95-7861) online, everything fit well. Still needed to purchase some metric screws for the installation, the screws provided by Sony were too short. I am little sad that an installation kit was not supplied by Crutchfield. The existing navigation still works, the only loss is the audio output of the navigation. Brought a 2004 Pilot back to life by now having Pandora, Bluetooth, External Input and USB connection for iPhone control.
Nice stereo! Car looks much better now that the aftermarket Bluetooth phone interface and Sirrus FM modulator are both gone. Well worth the investment in time and money.
Pros: Every input that I needed. Easy installation with Metra kit. Lots of fun stuff to play with.
Cons: Audio output from Factory Navigation was lost during the installation.Crutchfield response on January 21, 2015 Thanks for sharing your experience with the 95-7861 Metra kit for use in the 2004 Honda Pilot. Our Vehicle Research team is re-evaluating it, and if it looks like it can do the job well enough, we'll add it as an option for future customers.
This is a great deck, it does all i need it to do and then some, its also very easy to connect to via Bluetooth, it recognizes my S3 in a matter of seconds, so its very convenient when i choose to expose myself to microwave radiation, but jokes aside, i would like to note a few things i would do different if i ran sony, for one the display is not well thought out, not only does it not take advantage of the relatively large display by only offering you one tiny line, it also does not display vital information such as for example which radio channel you are tuned in to, you would have to manually find out by either changing the channel or manage to press the right key if you have the channel saved in order to avoid changing it to figure out, cosmetically i would also prefer if the background of the interface did not change color and stayed black, it would look so much neater and also more easily visible, but possibly the most annoying future of all is the frequent advertising of all the decks futures once the deck is not in use for a few minutes, it automatically shifts from color to color informing you of all the decks futures; Bluetooth, Aux, multicolored interface...etc, as if you already didn't know? I would like to know if these futures can be changed but i have not seen any information regarding these annoying futures even after going through the manual. Aside from all of those listed above, this thing makes a great deck with more futures than you could possibly need.
Pros: Easy BT Connectivity colors Aux and USB Sound quality and futures Great looking deck
Cons: Almost everything regarding its display
Installation was not too bad - a little tight with all the extra aftermarket boxes needed to interface with Toyota factory sound system. I can't complain about the audio performance. I am not what I'd call an "audiophile" with refined tastes or keen awareness of clipping or fidelity - can't hear this with road noise anyhow, but it's plenty capable connected to the factory JBL sound system. Hint: you can easily cycle through the "sources" - like all eight or whatever there are - by pressing "source" and turning the volume knob. I spent a few months clicking "Source" 8 or 9 times to switch from "tuner" to "Sirius" before I figured that out. Tuner is clearly an improvement over the factory tuner, which had issues even with some more local stations.
Pros: My wife and daughter are fond of the colors ("rainbow" setting cycles through a bunch of pretty ones) but unfortunately none of them are sunlight viewable (see "Cons"). The Android app is nifty but I rarely use it - doesn't do a lot in with this receiver (look on Google Play to see which models it supports best - pay attention to the asterisks). The Jazz Standard and Blues Sirius channels sound great - mostly what I listen to.
Cons: The worst issue is reading the display in daylight. Between faint colors and glare, it's a real challenge. Others refer to complexity of controls - I have given up on trying to select equalizer presets while driving (which is usually when I'd like to try a different one). If only the "App Remote" had this capability (it doesn't). There are some interesting settings for optimizing the sound for selected locations in the vehicle, but you can't hardly cycle between settings to note any difference.
I love this stereo. My car sounds great and it has SiriusXM. There is a drastically better change to how everything sounds. The radio is complicated and tough to navigate because it is new, I am sure this will improve over a little time.
Pros: sound quality and Sirius.
Cons: Not user friendly
I first purchased this radio as it was a double din radio with Sirius/Xm capability. During the first year it performed fine. My needs were fairly simple as I don't need all the additional features such as the Bluetooth and pandora capabilities. After the warranty expired the selected color wouldn't remain on the display and it started flashing different colors and the various features scrolled across the screen-just like it was in the demo mode. After resetting the color it would only last for several days. I recently switched it to another car hoping it would correct the problem. The problem continues and has increased in frequency to at least daily-some times several times an hour. After a week in the second car, the wife has asked for another radio. Calls to both Crutchfield and Sony haven't solved the problem. Both have indicated they have no record of any similar problems. The Sony quality isn't what it used to be. Time to order another radio after 1 1/2 years- this time it won't be a Sony.
Pros: Double din and Sirius capability
Cons: reverts to demo mode while driving
All in all, it's a great product. I replaced a stock radio in a 2003 Chevy Tahoe. It was simple to install. Only knock I have on the product itself is the fact that Bluetooth devices have to be reconnected each time the radio / vehicle is turned off. I haven't used aftermarket Bluetooth products in the past but my previous experience with stock systems did not disconnect the device and require re-connection, basically starting over to include display settings. Once reconnected, the song display resets and requires some navigation through the display preferences to get back to where it was.
The product offers a ton of color combinations. The equalizer preferences were a little difficult to adjust. That is the only component of the operating manual that I found to be a bit vague.
Pros: Fit, appearance, and features
Cons: Personalized equalizer settings
Great sounding system. It looks great in my Hyundai Veracruz. It will take a little more reading of the manual to understand all of the features of this system. I purchased an XM add on module and a Maestro (to keep the steering wheel controls).Install was straight forward except the Maestro. The instructions (form the Maestro website, not Crutchfield) had me connecting two wires to the A5 and A6 6 pin connectors. Problem is, I didn't have any 6 pin connectors. I called Crutchfield and once again their tech support came through. They searched through Vehicle wiring diagrams and other vendors steering wheel control modules to figure it out. Once the tech figured it out, he offered to stay on the phone with me while I wired it up and tested it out!. I had a few crimping issues (tight in the dash) but he was patient. Once I got everything connected, I powered it on and everything worked perfectly. Kudos to Crutchfield's Tech staff once again. I won't buy a car stereo anywhere but here. I am confident that no company out there provides better customer service and Tech Support than Crutchfield.
Pros: Great looking system and over the top Tech support/customer service.
Cons: None yet.
Very happy with the sony. Plenty of settings to fine tune your sound stage. Bought it mostly for Xm radio which works great. Found a color to match the dash lights, looks cool at night. looks factory in my Tacoma ??
Pros: plenty of settings to fine tune sound
Cons: takes some time to figure out all the settings
Like unit and would recommend
Pros: Great phone integration
Cons: Wish app had audio control options... Eq position settings
At first sight, I thought this was the best replacement for my factory radio and after install, I stand by my first impression.
Sony is what u expected. Easy to use and like all the color display options.
This stereo does everything, that's both good and bad. The biggest issue I had with it, really the only issue is with it being set up to do everything it is a bit complicated to control. Once I get used to it it will be easier. I wish they gave you the option to cut items out of source menu if you are not going to use them. It looks good, sounds good and does everything I want. The installation was straightforward. I may yet find ways to make it fit my needs better I have only been using it a couple of days.
Pros: It does everything Satellite CD"s MP3
Cons: It is set up to do everything even stuff I don't use like pandora
I like the unit for how well it works. I decided to write this review because the main selling point for this unit versus any others that I looked at was the ability to control Pandora via Bluetooth with an android device. The description clearly stated that you could control Pandora from your android phone using the head unit controls with the Bluetooth synced up. You can only pause and skip from the head unit. You cannot "like", "unlike" or change Pandora stations or any other functions that you would normally be able to do from the app on the phone. In addition to that you cannot perform these functions at the phone because it is in "accessory" mode which does not allow you to work the app on the phone. You can only quit the app in this mode. The description on the Crutchfield web site did not clarify this and the manual states "some functions may not be usable". It is frustrating to have to stay on one station. there are enough buttons on the unit that I would think that these functions could have been easily added to the head unit. Also, all of the people I have tried the hands free phone calling with have a hard time hearing / understanding me. I would return the unit but already spent the money to have it professionally installed and do not want to pay to have it done again. Should have read the manual on functionality before having it installed.
Pros: Works well and has a lot of abilities to hook up just about anything you could ever dream of as some type of AUX or USB or Bluetooth.
Cons: Cannot control Pandora with the same functionality as the app on an android device. Cannot like / dislike a song or change stations. I agree with a lot of other reviews that it seems like you have to scroll through a lot of "sources" to get back to tuner or get to other sources.
Pros: Fairly easy installation for first timer with Crutchfield assistance.
Cons: Still learning functions but it would be nice for sources to be split up so you don't have to scroll through all functions to get to sirius xm function.
This unit would be perfect if the backlit volume control (overly bright halo around the main volume control) were the same brightness as all the other lit info indicators on the unit. That is the only flaw. I will have to live with the visual distraction. I'm surprised that it was overlooked in the protoype stage. I would like to ask the designers, "Why"?
Pros: great sound, great adaptability and fit, plenty of inputs and outputs, blue tooth, usb, aux, great controls for subwoofer, addition amps, listening positions, great value
Cons: annoyingly bright halo around volume control, live with it
This was a great addition to my car. It was easy to install and worked great the first time that I plugged it all in. I love the bluetooth on it and it connects every time instantly. The menus are great as well. Could not ask for a better product for the price that I got it for.
Pros: Customization of colors and dimmer for the screen. Easy menus.
Cons: Wish there was a play/pause/forward/back control like you get with some radios.
Unit works well but is hard to program. Wasn't happy to find it on sale after paying full price.
Pros: Looks good.
Cons: Don't like having to go through unwanted modes.
Very easy to install. Great quality sound. I still have stock speakers and it improved the quality of sound.
Pros: Bluetooth Pandora radio control works great.
Cons: IPod playlist control. Have to switch to passenger control to navigate playlists.
Very nice stereo for the money. The sound quality of the Sony is quite a bit better than the stock receiver I had. The stereo has several features that add to the look, with a ton of choices for the color of the unit. It has several features to add to the sound quality of any stereo in a vehicle. The biggest drawback of this unit is the controls. They are not labeled very clearly or defined in the manual.
Pros: Great Sound and options for lighting
Cons: controls are not very user friendly
I'm quite happy with this unit. I wanted something that worked with my stock speakers, fit in a double DIN space and had great bluetooth integration. This Sony unit delivered all of those. It was fairly straightforward to install and the included mic has good quality for handsfree calls over bluetooth. The Sony Android remote app is actually quite useful - give the control dial on the face a long press and it automatically signals your phone to bring up the remote app which allows you to control the inputs via your phone or to launch a music app like Google Play Music or Rdio. I don't use the built-in Pandora integration but there's special support to allow you to control Pandora from the unit controls without having to use your phone while driving.
There are also a lot of feature for adjusting the sound quality like an EQ with both preset and custom settings, loudness control and other Sony features like Sony's DM+ that improves high frequency response for digitally compressed music.
Installation was easy with the included adapter kit and faceplate. My installation looks perfect even though this was the first time I've installed a car stereo.
Pros: Great functionality Awesome sound even with stock speakers
Put this head unit in my 2003 Chevy Silverado after factory unit quit on me. only 25 minutes to install had to call tech support once they were a great help!
I always buy Sony so when my wife needed bluetooth in her car I shopped Crutchfield for a stereo. Install was easy enough and sound was as good as I expected. External mic was a plus. She's happy, I'm happy!
Pros: Bluetooth, Pandora, Serius radio
Cons: I think the display could be better, a little fancier. Kinda plain
Receiver arrived in a faster time than was estimated. No problems with the installation thanks to the free kit. Worth the money!
Pros: Easy installation
Great unit. It looks good and fits well in my 04 Tahoe
Pros: Multiple features, great sound quality and the large dial is easy to use. I've only begun to learn everything this unit can do.
sounds great, provides great radio reception and excellent stero effect on CD's or strong stations
Pros: good sound, reception
Cons: takes time to get use to how to select items
Was referred to this product by the sales associate in Crutchfield chat. I bought it immediately and it was shipped and delivered very fast. I installed it the very next day. It was fairly easy to install in my 2000 Jaguar S type.
Pros: Works very well. Nice big volume knob. Now I have Bluetooth, USB, and a very solid audio system in my car. Very happy with my purchase.
Cons: No negatives that I can think of.
Very happy with this unit. Other than major loss in radio signal, but didn't purchase it for that. Always have been a Sony guy, and so far very happy with the upgrade in sound. The stock speakers even sound better for now.
Pros: Excellent sound
Cons: Poor radio reception.
Installed in a 2001 Acura CL Type S Coup, replacing the Bose unit but kept Bose speakers (for now)... Instant upgrade in sound quality!!! I ran all my pre-amp patch cords for main amp and sub so I wouldn't have to take half the dash apart once it is time install my new speakers and 1500W Sub (2 x 12" ported box) also bought at Crutchfield a few years ago now in my basement.
Pros: Great receiver for the money....... Quality build......
Cons: Controls can be confusing at first........ lot features I won't ever use. For some reason the siriusxm receiver I got with this unit, the connector would not fit...... ?????????
Good bang for the buck. Very nice head unit for a reasonable price. I installed it in a Ford Mustang with Shaker 500 sound system. Installation was time consuming but Crutchfield tech support made it painless. Kudos to the customer support team. Very patient and detail oriented. I got the Ford wiring harness, 12v-5v converter for shaker 500 subs, Antenna extender (Not needed) and the DD frame to mount the head unit free with this purchase. All I needed was the quick splice connectors from AdvanceAutoparts. The installation came out well and I'm a happy customer. GOOD JOB Crutchfield.
Pros: It is SONY Cool features, Nice colors
Cons: It will take some time to get used to. There are many features in this unit and some of them you might not need.
I bought this for my 2009 Civic. I wanted something that looked better than the previous owner's single-din stereo (he had switched out the OEM radio). Plus it needed to have SiriusXM, which is what I listen to the most. The Sony looks really nice. Much more of a OEM feel. To see the display during the day in sunlight, I have the color set to white and the dimmer off. For night time, I have the dimmer on and select blue. So I have to change those settings every time, but I'm used to it. Apparently you can run a wire to sync with the headlights, but I don't mind the way I'm doing it.
This was my first Crutchfield purchase, and I was happy with the experience. I even got a nice handwritten thank you card from them. I will be ordering more from Crutchfield in the future.
With the amount of time I spend in the car, should have replaced the stock deck in my Tahoe years ago - this thing is fantastic and makes driving a little less burdensome. Bluetooth connects quickly, controls are intuitive, and it pauses whatever audio source you're on when a call comes in, and resumes where you left off after the call. Inexpensive unit, and compared to my last deck in the late 80s, this one would have cost $5,000 back then if it were available. Makes me want to spring for a Sub and an Amp next, and maybe upgrade the stock speakers.
The Crutchfield purchase was easy. I had question about retaining my OnStar and Steering Wheel controls, and the Rep quickly figured out witch add-on harness I needed, and didn't try to up-sell me to the $95 unit. Even noticed I was missing the wire connectors on my order, and remotely popped a package into my cart.
Pros: Easy install. Fit my 2005 Tahoe double DIN space with no modifications. The pig tail harness wire colors from the deck all matched the OnStar harness wire colors, so connecting was easy. I have big hands, and I have no problem operating the buttons, as some have indicated in other reviews. The factory speakers sound quite a bit better.
Cons: None I've really noticed. It does what it's supposed to do, and for the money you really can't complain.
Good system. I like it
Pros: Good system
