Our take on the Sony WX-GT90BT

by Ken Nail
Sony

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Bluetooth® is only one of the cool features in this receiver

Sony's WX-GT90BT CD receiver begins its impressive list of features with built-in Bluetooth. You can pair up your mobile phone and talk hands-free when you get a call, plus you can stream the music stored on your mobile device wirelessly to this Sony receiver — it adds a new level of convenience and capability to your car's audio system.  Even cooler, you can choose from over 35,000 colors to customize the big display on this receiver. No matter the model or make of your car, it'll look right at home in the dash.

Sony WXGT90BT

You can choose from thousands of colors for the display.

Cutting edge smartphone integration

If you've got a smartphone, you know it has a lot more going for it than just Bluetooth, and with the WX-GT90BT you can tap into some of your phone's many capabilities. Sony's App Remote feature turns smartphone interactivity into a two-way street. With your phone's touchscreen, you can do things like selecting sources, picking radio stations, and launching apps. From your Sony receiver, you can select apps using the stereo's source button, the same way you'd choose the CD player or radio as your source. And, with your Android™ phone paired up, this receiver will read any incoming text messages out loud, so you can keep your eyes on the road..

Great sound at the heart of it all

The features are fun, but you'll really appreciate this Sony if you care about sound quality. The WX-GT90BT features an impressive array of sound-shaping tools, including a 7-band EQ, digital time alignment for a perfect stereo "sweet spot," and frequency filters that'll make your speaker setup shine. And Sony's powerful Digital Reality amp, noted for its solid sound output and realistic audio reproduction, will drive your speakers with crisp authority.

More ways to enjoy your tunes

Pop in a CD, plug your iPhone® or iPod® into the USB input, or browse your favorite Pandora® Internet radio stations from the receiver's controls — you've got plenty of options. And you can add on a SiriusXM tuner (subscription required), if you want to experience an unparalleled variety of news, talk, sports, and music.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Sony stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the receiver, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Sony WX-GT90BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 2.1 + EDR), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Sony WX-GT90BT .  Please visit Sony eSupport for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

Pairing: Up to 9 phones or audio devices can be registered with the WX-GT90BT (only one device can be used at a time). The unit can be set to automatically reconnect to the last connected Bluetooth device when the ignition is turned on.

Hands-Free Communication: The Sony WX-GT90BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone. Bluetooth hands-free communication helps to minimize distraction while driving by allowing you to control your mobile phone from the head unit, so you don't have to touch your mobile phone. The controls of the WX-GT90BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering Calls: Incoming calls can be answered manually or automatically (between 3-10 seconds) through the Sony head unit, while the ring tone is output from your car speakers and the caller's name or phone number is displayed on the head unit's LCD. Incoming calls can also be rejected if desired.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the WX-GT90BT , you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways.
      • Entering Phone #: Allows you to manually dial a phone number using the unit's control dial.
      • Redial: Use to easily redial the last number you called.
      • Preset Dial: You can store up to 6 contacts in the preset dial for quick dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can store up to 1,000 contacts in the unit's phone book. Up to a 40 character name can be input for each contact.
      • Call History: The unit will store the last 20 calls, allowing you to select a previous phone number quickly from the list.
      • Voice Dial: You can make a call using the voice tags stored on your connected cellular phone.

External Microphone: The WX-GT90BT includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 12' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone comes with a mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.465" (diameter) x 1.425" (depth). There is no integrated front-panel mic.

SMS Indicator: The SMS indicator informs you of any incoming or unread SMS messages on your paired Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. You will still need to view the text message from your phone, as well as create and send text messages from your phone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Meta Data Display): The Sony WX-GT90BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The WX-GT90BT will be able to control your stored music's basic playback functions; such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast-Forward/Reverse, and Shuffle/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name, Song title, and Album label. The WX-GT90BT also supports audio streaming of music apps, but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Digital Assistant Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S/5 via Bluetooth (not USB), the Sony WX-GT90BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply activate the "voice dial" function on the WX-GT90BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the WX-GT90BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone 4S/5. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs (12cm only). The Sony WX-GT90BT allows you to playback CD-Rs or CD-RWs loaded with MP3, WMA, or AAC songs. Not all MP3, WMA, AAC files may playback due to file variations. Copyright protected ACC-LC files cannot be played back.

USB Port: The receiver's front-panel Type-A USB port can be used for plugging in a (MSC) Mass Storage Class USB device; such as your Android smartphone, portable digital audio player, or USB thumbdrive. The head unit can play music files stored on the USB device in MP3, WMA, or AAC formats. 2V/6Ch Preamp Outputs: The WX-GT90BT features front, rear and subwoofer 2-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs are fixed to the rear chassis of the head unit.

Subwoofer Controls: The subwoofer preamp output features a low pass filter with a selectable cut-off frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the low-pass crossover. You can adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments. In addition, you can select the phase of the subwoofer output from Normal or Reverse.

Subwoofer Direct Connection: You can connect a subwoofer to this head unit without the need of a separate power amplifier. Simply connect a single subwoofer (4-8 ohm) directly to head unit's left or right rear speaker leads (but not both). Same subwoofer controls apply.

High-Pass Filter: The front & rear speaker outputs offer a selectable high-pass crossover frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the high-pass crossover.

Advanced Sound Engine: Sony's Advanced Sound Engine creates an ideal in-car sound field with digital signal processing. Advanced Sound Engine contains the following features: EQ7, Listening Position, DM+ Advanced, Rear Bass Enhancer, & Dynamic Loudness.

    • EQ7: You can select an equalizer curve from eight music types - Xplod, Vocal, Edge, Cruise, Space, Gravity, Custom, or Off (Flat). The Custom EQ7 mode allows  you to make  your own equalizer settings. You can adjust the level (+/-6dB) of seven different frequency bands - Band1 (63Hz), Band2 (160Hz), Band3 (400Hz), Band4 (1kHz), Band5 (2.5khz), Band6 (6.3khz), and Band7 (16.0kHz).
    • Listening Position: This unit can change the localization of sound by delaying the sound output from each speaker to suit your position, and simulate a natural sound field with the feeling of being in the center of it wherever you sit in the car. You can choose from Front Right, Front Left, Front Center, or Off. You can also set the subwoofer distance of the subwoofer to Near, Normal, or Far
    • RBE (Rear Bass Enhancer): RBE enhances the bass sound by applying the low-pass filter setting to the rear speakers. This function allows the rear speakers to work as a subwoofer even if there is no subwoofer connected.
    • Dynamic Loudness: Dynamic Loudness refers to compensating for volume level & signal gain.
    • DM+ Advanced: DM+ Advanced improves digitally compressed sound by restoring high frequencies lost in the compression process (works only for USB).

Automatic Level Optimizer: Automatic Level Optimizer analyzes each track's playback level & adjusts the output level to optimize transitions between tracks & sources.

Beep Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

2-DIN Chassis: The Sony WX-GT90BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is no mounting sleeve included. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

Dynamic Color Illuminator (35,000 colors): Dynamic Color Illuminator lets you match the head unit's LCD & button illumination to complement your existing vehicle lighting components. With selectable Sound Synchronization, the timing of the color change is synchronized with the audio source. You can select from 12 preset colors (red/amber/m-amber/yellow/white/light green/green/light blue/sky blue/blue/purple/pink), customized color, & 5 preset patterns (rainbow/ocean/sunset/forest/random). The unit's Dynamic Color Illuminator offers the following advance features.

    • Day/Night Color Mode: You can register a customize color for the unit's display and buttons for day & night time driving.
    • Sound Synchronization: The color changes according to synchronization of playing music. When you select a preset pattern sound synchronization becomes effective.
    • White Menu: You can display the menu more clearly (White text) without concern for the unit's other color settings.
    • Start White: When you power-on the head unit, the color of the unit's display and buttons turn white and then the color changes to your chosen customize color. You can enjoy this effect whenever the source is turned on.

Motion Display: This feature shows moving patterns and a spectrum analyzer on the display when turned on.

Auto Scroll: This feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Source/Off button once will switch sources. Pressing and holding the Source/Off button for one second will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. To turn the unit off completely, you must press and hold the Source/Off button for two seconds.

Dimmer: To change the brightness of the display you can set the WX-GT90BT to one of three dimmer modes; Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), Dimmer Off (deactivates the dimmer), and Dimmer On (display always dim).

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.

Demo Mode: The head unit's demo mode can be turned On or Off.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The head unit comes supplied with an IR wireless remote control (RM-X211) for easy operation. The included wireless remote allows you to control the basic functions of the Sony head unit while keeping your eyes on the road.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

    Crutchfield Rocks!

Written By Dave, Rowlett, TX on Wednesday, April 09, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my wife's 2006 Xterra to replace the factory stereo that had seen much better days; she loves it!!!

The installation and instructions left little to figure out and made the whole deal very simple. I also have added Sound Ordinance speakers front and back and will be installing an amp later this week.
    Pros:
Awesome Bluetooth capable stereo with plenty of features and room for expansion!
    Cons:
Makes my old '96 F150 seem beyond pitiful!

Excellent sound quality and power. Love the display layout and location of control. Only negative is ease of access to BT phone. You have to go to the phone menu and navigate to voice call before you could make a voice call. That's too much hassle. Ideally, you should be able to press one button to active voice controls- I could do that with my other car stereo.

    There is room for improvement

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The stereo was to replace my 10 year old Sony single din stereo. Primary reason for upgrade: front USB input, iPod control and Bluetooth streaming - don't care about phone usage but want to be able to stream radio from the phone over Bluetooth. It fits nicely but you really do need factory mounting brackets or aftermarket brackets for 2 din stereos. What Crutchfield supplies is only good for single din. Very important for me was the feature that you can turn and off bluetooth without going through all the menus - I'm not intending to use it for hands free calling, so I don't need my phone to be connected to it unless I'm ready to stream music over bluetooth.
    Pros:
*It appears to be very solid stereo (I only used it for a week so far) but it feels right. *Easy to install and sound quality is at least as good as the one I had before. It is priced lower than most of the other 2 din stereos and if it lasts as long as my previous Sony 10+ years, I'll be happy *It's got tons of functions and I haven't tried all of them yet.
    Cons:
Getting to functions is not very easy - often, you have to go through a number of menus before getting to where you need to be - Sony should have done more dedicated buttons for audio controls at least The one line display is ridiculous! 3/4 of display is used for static mostly empty fields and all the information is provided on one line - second from the bottom The display is absolutely "blind" when it's sunny outside. You can't see the clock or any of the information displayed there.

    Sony WXGT90BT Receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this receiver in my 2004 Chevy Colorado. Install went smooth. I watched a couple of Youtube videos on radio installs for Colorado's first and the instructions supplied by Crutchfield were adequate. No major issues on the install to report. It does take a little getting use to when setting the sound options in the menu. Love the bluetooth and ability to play my pandora stations. Very statisfied.
    Pros:
If you can use a few hand tools you can install this unit. The bluetooth pairs easily and the sound really cranks out.
    Cons:
Can't say there are any cons.

    Ready to rock the house!

What a great little unit! Packing a punch for the better than average listener - why do you need all that power? I matched this unit up with a Kenwood powered subwoofer and a set of 4 Rockford Punch speakers, and this dude is more than happy! Best part, I had to install in stages. Unstalling the head unit first, I was amazed how much better the car system sounded. If all you have to spend is a couple hundred bucks, this is the place to start.
    Pros:
Lots of features packed into one package. After a couple months of use, the top of the list is flexibility (can be run alone, powered subwoofer (like I did) or as a pre-amp to a full amp set-up. Internal power for main speakers is plenty clean for my ears. Having a 7-band EQ is awsome to fine-tune, and the listener position is great too. When activated, the sound seems to come from everywhere! Perfectly balanced.
    Cons:
Hard to get used to the navigation at first - but once the pattern is figured out, it's not hard to operate.

    Great Stereo for the Price!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After two months of reviewing products, including waiting a month for this stereo to be in stock I purchased this stereo to replace the factory one in a 2007 Honda Pilot. Didn't purchase the steering wheel controls and kept the stock speakers in the vehicle. Didn't want to deal with installing so I had a local shop install the stereo (worth every penny). Love how much better the sound quality is with the Sony even with the factory speakers. Didn't have any issues with working through the menus, (downloaded the manual from Sony), and have thoroughly enjoyed the expanded listening options at my fingertips (CD, Radio, Ipod Touch 5, HTC One phone using Pandora and Tune-In, and a 32 GB USB drive). I had considered purchasing either Sirius or XM, but with this stereos features it would be redundant. Additionally the Bluetooth, hands free calling has been an unexpected pleasure as well.
    Pros:
Great sound. Easy Use. Plenty of listening options.
    Cons:
The display as mentioned by several other reviews can be difficult to view during the day, depending on the sun. Also, difficult to read during day with sunglasses on.

Great sound with factory speakers! Put this in my 2004 F 150 and could not have been easier. Bluetooth works awesome! I have a GS3 and works great with hands free calling, Pandora and spotify. Took a little time to figure out the settings but this is the first stereo I've put in. Saying that it was very easy to install with all the stuff you get with it!
    Pros:
Great sound! Bluetooth very simple to connect and works very well with hands free calling and music. Lots of color options. Lot of stereo for the price. Very easy to install! Took 30 minutes at the most. Crutchfield gives everything you need.
    Cons:
Took a bit to figure out the settings. But all and all pretty easy to use.

    Sony WX-GT90BT in a 2002 VW Jetta

Written By BrianT, Tampa, FL on Wednesday, March 12, 2014

Very surprised after some reviews, but AMAZING stereo! I purchased this radio to replace the factory stereo and I needed Bluetooth and Sirius XM features. I ordered everything from Crutchfield for the first time and loved the fact it came with everything I possibly needed.

INSTALL: I received it and began the hookup. Right off the bat, I could see the new harness had no where near the same amount of wires coming out of it.. . as it did coming in from the factory harness. That concerned me. There was also a few colored wires, that I know I needed, wrapped off and labeled Navigation System which I didn't have. At this point I did a bunch of research online and downloaded the wire info and tried to cross the car wires with the harness wires before installing. After about 45 minutes of getting frustrated, I just decided to use the Red and Orange wires that were tied off for the Navigation system. Once I made that choice, it took me about 2 minutes to tie all the wires together and fire up the radio. It turned right on. I turned the key off on the car and off goes the radio. I turned the lights on and off and the radio dimmed accordingly. I was shocked! I didn't expect everything to work due to the fact that most of the wires from the main harness were not even needed.

FEATURES: Everything worked perfect. Bluetooth remembers phones, unlike other comments. SiriusXM works perfect. Pandora is amazing. 5/5 Stars for sure!
    Pros:
    - Very easy to install using the supplied harness from Crutchfield - Remote and Sony App which is fun to play with. Shows all details on a nice display of tune station, or SiriusXM info. Can change channels, adjust volume.. and much more. - Color match to my dashboard a bonus! - Loud! It has great power, that's for sure. I have it turned on to allow the backspeakers to act like a sub, so more bass goes there. Feature works perfect. -
    Cons:
    - Confused with main red and orange wires tied off as Navigation, but after I figured that part out, EASY INSTALL! (moments later, it was installed) - Mounting plate will be very tight. It will not be an easy removal to add to the system. I may actually have to break the bracket and just order another one to reinstall.

I chose the Sony WX-GT90BT to replace the factory radio in my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee after a lot of careful research. So far I am only moderately satisfied and probably should done more research. This radio has plenty of functions that just overload the user. Menus are extensive and not especially intuitive. Installation was a nightmare. I was sent the wrong instructions, such as they are, leading to more confusion. The steering controls and SIRIUS are working but Blue Tooth Hands Free is not. I would not take on this project again and would not recommend to a friend unless he is an electronics engineer.
    Pros:
Highly featured, typical Sony fit and finish (meaning excellent), nice looking unit overall and plenty of features.
    Cons:
Does not align with the slight tumble home of the dash. Menues are not intuitive, some terms and acronyms are confusing.

A great-sounding unit with outstanding connectivity. Phone calls are great, and the folks on the other end cannot tell I am on a speakerphone, so the included mic quality is great. My only quip is that I wish I could hide certain sources (most) that I don't use so I don't have to cycle through them all to find the one I'm looking for.

    Fantastic non-touch display head unit!

Written By Darryl, Edgewater, NJ on Wednesday, February 19, 2014

    2005 Subaru WRX Wagon.

I purchased this head unit last 4th of July weekend, 2013. After numerous compliments since I've had it, I finally felt compelled to write my review.

Firstly, this unit is a great value for what you get! Every possible way you can listen to music, this has it, except cassettes. lol. I love being able to listen to all my playlists from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using the bluetooth connectivity. Also, the Sirius, which you need to purchase a separate antenna for, works great.

This unit has so many features, and there's definitely a bit of a learning curve here. I spent one afternoon in a parking lot, reading the manual, and messing around with the settings. The settings are endless. Sometimes I wish there was a simple Bass and Treble knob. Less is more.

The Bluetooth phone works wonderfully. The microphone picks up your voice clearly. While driving on the highway, I asked my elderly mom if she can hear me clearly, and she said she thought I was calling from my home phone. It was THAT clear, and I have a rather loud sport exhaust too!

The sound improvement is significantly improved over the stock stereo. I decided I couldn't stop there, and upgraded all my speakers, and got an amp to power the speakers as well. To say the sound is delightful is an understatement!

The ability to exactly match the color of your dash is great too, with infinite color combinations. Just a great looking stereo! You will get compliments from your passengers.
    Pros:
Great looks. Plays almost every digital music source through various inputs, Sound settings o'plenty. The bluetooth phone works beautifully, and callers hear your voice clearly with no distortion. This may be the best non-touch screen stereo unit out there! It's coming with me when I get my next car! :-)
    Cons:
A bit of a learning curve to figure out all the numerous settings. I suggest once you get the perfect settings for you, note down somewhere what each of the settings are, just in case, for whatever reason, your battery needs to be disconnected, and all your settings are reset.

This receiver has all the features you need.
    Pros:
The Bluetooth modes phone, Pandora, and music work great. Used the AUX port to listen an audio book on a kindle using the browse function to find the chapter I wanted. I am still learning all the little features this receiver has,
    Cons:
The am / fm radio is not as clear as the factory radio it replaces. It picks up all kinds of stations with auto program.

I installed this stereo on my 2004 Toyota Corolla LE. Since the car just turned 10 years old recently with only 71,172 miles, I decided that I should give my first car an upgrade after having it for 10 years. Overall quality of the stereo is excellent. Feature is great but the ease of use on the bluetooth for the phone is very annoying that is why I gave it 3 stars.I am use to my wireless bluetooth speaker that when I press the call button it will connect to the phone right away and ready for a voice command. When using the bluetooth phone on this unit, you have to go to source then look for the Bluetooth phone then look for the phonebook then look for the name of your party. Even so if you have a stored name. So the ease of using the phone Bluetooth while driving is an accident waiting to happen because of distraction when dialing. No voice command. While listening to your music you can answer a call with the call button then when you end the call it will not go back to the music you were listening. You have to go to source and select your music thru Tuner or whatever source.
    Pros:
Good sound quality and the value is excellent. Very easy to install.
    Cons:
Not so great with the Bluetooth phone ease of use. Very distracting when dialing while driving.

    Not what I expected

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The radio arrived and had it installed. The blue tooth connection was very spotty and every time I turned the vehicle off I had to reconnect manually. It was always a 2-3 step process. After 1 full day the radio began shutting off. I reconnected and re-grounded all the wiring several times and it would still shut off. I called Crutchfield support and after determining I had it all hooked up correctly they asked me to return it as it was defective. I asked for a Pioneer model and they sent one out to me the very next day.
    Pros:
    sleek and nice looking.
    Cons:
too many steps to hook up any blue tooth device. Keeps dropping off every time I turn off and turn on the car. confusing interface.

My dad and I installed this Sony stereo and kit with in an hour. now the stereo looks and sounds so much better then the stock stereo. I would highly recommend this stereo to anyone.
    Pros:
Easy to install and really good step by step instructions on how to install it. Easy to change the color of the display so that it matches the display on the dash. Also the Bluetooth feature connect fast and well to any device that is Bluetooth combatable.

    Pros:
Nice sound. Tons of features. Easy to install with the included wiring harnesses.
    Cons:
The illumination in the face is a little dim.

Replaced the junk stock radio in my Frontier with this, installed it myself and so far I have been very happy with this unit. Sounds much better, lots of features - frustrating for some, read the manual it makes it much easier!- the ability to direct the bass to the rear speakers is a fantastic feature if you don't/can't run a sub. The looks are pretty cool too, I don't find the display to be too bright like some others do, but that's just me. For the $ I would highly recommend this Sony.

I am very happy. Installed it in a 2004 Camry. Great Radio. It has all the quality you expect of a Sony, but no more expensive that comparable models.
    Pros:
Blue tooth works excellent. Sound is excellent. IPOD ports work great.
    Cons:
Some of the menu settings are tedious, but once you get the colors and equalizer set you don;t have to deal with that again.

    Happy with this Sony Unit

I finally decided to replace my factory radio in my 2007 Altima. I agree with some of the reviews about the LCD not being very bright but overall VERY happy with this unit! I use only the Sirius radio and for my hands free part of it. Very easy to install and Crutchfield support is awesome! I wish I would have bought all my items from them. I had the Axxess adapter for the steering wheel controls already and that part of the install did not go well. Overall very happy with Crutchfield and this radio wish I had installed it sooner!!
    Pros:
    I like everything about it

    Great head Unit

Bought this unit for a 06 Ford Expedition and did not know what to expect and am glad to say this unit sounds great in the vehicle. Big improvement over the stock 6 CD am/FM stereo that was in the vehicle. the sound is very clear, the loudness is very large, and stays clear at high levels. The colors, and features are great so far also. Have not had time to play with the app for the IPhone, but will give it shot. So far nothing but glowing things to say about this unit and would recommend to anyone looking for a very nice with little bit of flashiness to it.
    Pros:
The Installation was erase Setup and calibration were easy Excellent sound and 17 RMS
    Cons:
Could have a little better display of information

    Great Deck

Written By alamojimmy, Ridgecrest, Ca on Thursday, January 16, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was a breeze to install with everything that was included in the package from Crutchfield. The sound is very good and it has all the bells and whistles you could ask for. I am still learning the interface for the EQ custom setup and I am starting to get it down now. The EQ Custom option doesn't feel as intuitive as all of the other controls and customizations. Everything else on this stereo is very good. Ease of BT setup and indication of connection to BT Phone and BT audio separate. Love it. Phone operation is simple and easy setup. Well done all the way around with this deck.
    Pros:
Ease of setup for BT and all controls other than the EQ Custom.....
    Cons:
EQ Customization is a little weird to me. More experienced users/installers may disagree.

I'm not a big car audio guy by any means, but this head unit is awesome. All the integrated bluetooth capabilities, different equalization settings, and being able to use my satellite radio with the add-on make this a must buy for the price.

    It does what it promises

Written By Mark, Baltimore, MD on Monday, January 06, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit does what it promises. It produces good sound at a resonable price. It's easy to install and set up.
    Pros:
Most of the controls are logically laid out and intuitive. The settings are easy to navigate to set up. It gives a few options on what is to be displayed during use which is nice. Some people are saying the display isn't bright enough to be seen in daylight, but this depends on the color you select for the display. If you use light yellow, it's invisible in day light. If you use a blue or green or even darker warm colors (orange/red/etc) it's pefectly visible in bright light conditions.
    Cons:
You can't skip unused modes when switching sound input. So if I want to switch from the radio to a CD, I have to scroll through the Pandora option, Ipod option, etc. It would be better if you could remove a completely unused option. The Ipod controls aren't great. It works, but it only lets you skip to the next album, rather than the next playlist or artist. It's 2014. Who groups music by album anymore? You can still easily control the Ipod as normal from the Ipod though so it's not a huge deal.
