Overview

Our take on the Sony XAR800C

No more inching back out of a shopping center parking space while you check for pedestrians. Put your car in reverse, and this XAR800C rear-view camera will display what's behind you on the screen of your Sony video receiver. The camera offers an extremely wide view of what's behind you and off to each side — a big plus when you're backing out of a driveway with a limited view. This camera is compatible with Sony video receivers with a rear-camera input.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

Perfect, exactly as described.

Hummer H3 2006 Install

Written by: gtr from Michigan on December 9, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was an easy install. Hooked it up to a Sony XAV-64BT and it works to provide full visuals. The camera has gone thru a full Michigan winter and although it gets wet and muddy sometimes, it easily wipes off and keeps on working. Not the cheapest camera out there, but it is reliable, compatible and works.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this camera on a special for $20 with my Sony XAV-701HD . I thought it was just thrown in and not worth it. WRONG! THIS IS A GOOD CAMERA and the picture of my HU is awesome. Daytime is clear even when backing towards the sun. I can see color at night with only the reverse lights. The three color horizontal line is a plus for gaging distance. I love it and recommend this camera.

Pros: Installation was not too hard and you get plenty of cabling. The camera seems sturdy

Cons: The body is a little large' which limited the installation spots on my SUV.

perfect

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the perfect rear-view camera. The wire kit was complex but well documented, the wires were just long enough to get the job done. Worked perfectly with my sony receiver.

Pros: * power on with backup light works perfect and easy to wire thanks to tap-splice kit * wires were long enough to get the job done with a little bit of play left for mounting the stereo * easy to aim * easy to assemble

Cons: * wire plugs were large and required lots of effort to squeeze through the chasis holes from exterior to interior * I scratched the camera lens on accident during final install because of bubble shape of camera * very pricey

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

camera functions correctly, image quality is good

Pros: great image

Cons: Cable from the power supply to the camera is too short for bigger trucks and suvs. the power supply is designed to mount outside of the dash. On my long wheel base ford f-250 super cab I had to cut and add additional multi-conductor wire to even get it to an area under the back seat. I cut the wire and soldered all the connections and covered with heat shrink and it did work fine with no perceivable interference.

love it

Colonel Bob

Have the rear view camera connected to my Sony XNV-770BT A/V Receiver. Becoming accustomed the rear view camera takes some time. View is clear, day and night. Objects appear much farther away than they really are. Also, NOWHERE, be it in the Sony manual for the XNV-770BT or on- line Sony support, is there an explanation of the 3 horizontal lines on the viewing screen. Options allow colors of red, white, and blue, adjustment of the vertical positions of each of the lines as well as the length of each line. No explanation of what they're used for, much less how to do so. Mystery to me and my installer.

Eight feet. [ Christopher  Jan 22, 2016 ]
I installed this in a 2007 Grand Prix. I had ample length for the cable to route to the stereo unit from the rear license plate frame. I can not give a specific length though. [ Noel  Jan 22, 2016 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss compatibility with your current system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Jeff  Dec 30, 2013 ]  Staff
