Slide a DVD into the front slot to enjoy movies or videos when you're parked.

iPod® and iPhone® control

You can plug your iPod into the receiver's front USB input for direct control and playback of audio files. Insert a CD or DVD loaded with MP3, WMA, or AAC music files for hours of audio entertainment.

Sophisticated sound controls

Factory radios often lack clarity and power — no such problem with this Sony. Its powerful amp combines with advanced circuitry to deliver excellent sound quality. You can adjust the EQ3 3-band equalizer to optimize the acoustics in your vehicle, and tailor the reciever's audio output to your speakers or external amps with the high- and low-pass filters.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Note: Use of a video display while moving may be subject to state and local laws.

    Touchscreen Display

6.1" Touchscreen Display: The Sony XAV-65 DVD receiver features a 6.1" widescreen (17:9) touchscreen LCD monitor. The WVGA LCD monitor has a high resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB; with 1,152,000 total pixels. The LCD monitor provides touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics and icons, making menu navigation easy.

    • Picture EQ: You can select a picture quality mode suitable for the interior brightness of your vehicle. You can choose from Dynamic, Standard, Theater, or Sepia. You can also change the screen's aspect ratio of the DVD receiver's LCD monitor to suit your video content. You can choose from Normal, Wide, Full, or Zoom.
    • Dimmer + Auto Off: To change the brightness of the display you can set the XAV-65 to one of two dimmer modes; Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), or Dimmer On (display always dim). You can adjust the dimmer level from -5 to +5. When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting at a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.
    • 12-/24-Hour Clock: The head unit's clock can be set to a 12-hour or 24-hour mode. The clock will be visible during Tuner, Disc, USB, and iPod playback; as well as from the main menu screen and sub menus.
Note: For your convenience, this unit is equipped with a multiple language display. You can select the language which is best suited to your first language; English, French, or Spanish.

Front-Panel Controls: In addition to the head unit's touchscreen controls, the XAV-65 also offers a 3-way rotary knob and "HOME-DSPL" push button along the left side of the screen.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the displaying of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire in the supplied 16-pin harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. Video can only be displayed when the vehicle's parking brake is engaged. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view source information, song/artist information, and menus.

2-DIN Chassis: The Sony XAV-65 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is no mounting sleeve provided to Euro- or Custom-mount the in-dash receiver. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Disc & USB Playback

Compatible Discs: The Sony multimedia head unit has a front loading disc slot to make loading your disc easier, because there is no panel to slide or fold-down. The Sony XAV-65 supports playback of DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-Audio, CD-R/RW, and VCD discs. The Sony XAV-65 supports various audio, photo, & video files recorded onto these discs.

The USB port enables playback & control of music, video, and photo files stored on your compatible USB MSC device through the Sony XAV-65. USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

In addition, the XAV-65 is equipped with Sony's Dynamic Reality Amp to produce 3-dimensional sound staging for more realistic sound inside your vehicle. The unit's Rear/SW preamp outputs can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer output. The unit features a front-panel 3.5mm audio/video input on the front panel of the head unit for connecting a temporary external A/V source, such as a game console. The head unit also features a composite video/stereo audio RCA input on the rear panel for connecting a permanent external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player or mobile ATSC tuner.

When your vehicle's shift lever is in the reverse position, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera. The purple/white wire (attached to the unit's preamp output harness), must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). • Presets: The radio features 5 memory bands to store and receive AM/FM stations. You can store up to 6 presets each in FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 and AM2 (total: 18 FM/12 AM). Preset tuning can be done manually or automatically (BTM). BTM (Best Tuning Memory) selects stations with the best signals within the selected band and stores them in order of their frequency. To help find what's playing on your preset stations, you can play the first few seconds of each preset radio station until you find the one you want.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The Sony XAV-65 offers built-in steering wheel remote compatibility with select Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru, and Suzuki vehicles (the included 3-wire harness plugs into the head unit's OEM SWC input and will need to be hardwired to vehicle's wiring). Will Android devices work on this radio?
    todd  Jan 31, 2016
    3 answers
    A
through the USB slot only certain android devices work, none that I've tried. through auxiliary input they work just fine but the USB support is mainly for Apple products
    eric  Feb 01, 2016
    A
Android devices will work with this radio through the front USB port if you have the right USB cable (One that will transfer data) . It's a bit slow because the radio needs to recognize the device before music will play (Takes about 20 seconds). Personally, I use a 32Gb thumbdrive will all my music stored on that and just leave it inside the radio. Plus it connects to the thumb drive instantly so there is no delay before I can play music like there is through a USB cable to my phone.

illumination wire: The diagram for the head unit shows an orange wire, there is no orange wire on the harness adaptor, is illumination wire needed?
    james  Jan 04, 2016
    3 answers
    A
The illumination wire is not needed for a proper installation of this unit. The unit itself has a dimming function if it becomes too bright for you in lower lighting situations.
    johnn d  Jan 04, 2016
    A
Kind of. The illumination wire will tell the head unit to switch from BRIGHT to DIM display when you turn on your headlights. When I say DIM, I mean the radio's setting by way of it's internal dimmer feature (not your vehicle's dimmer switch). Your vehicle's harness adapter should have a wire devoted to this. What Metra adapter do you have?

Is it possible to use one of the A/V inputs for a front mounted camera?

    You cant
    eric  Apr 29, 2016
    A
Absolutely. There is an input dedicated to a rear view camera, but that's arbitrary. You could use that if you don't want to use a backup camera...however there is an additional A/V input you can use for any video source...from a DVD player or a 2nd camera.

No it does not. The newer model does but is upwards of 600 dollars. This is a good but but no Bluetooth.
    benson  Dec 17, 2014
    A
Yes it does have Bluetooth and it wants to controls everything you have. It's like the terminator. It controls your time, presets , remote start, and eventually you phone. Not worth your time to figure it out. Looks great and sounds great, but it wants to go to Sony and resets everything you own. I gave it a 1 star.
    michael  Dec 17, 2014
    A
No it does not. I did however purchase an audio bluetooth streaming receiver that works great with this deck for about $20. Crutchfield does have available the Sony XAV-68BT DVD receiver that does have Bluetooth capability. I saw it for about $280. That's a good deal cuz I bought my xav-65 for $300 or so back in March. Good luck.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

I have a 05 mustang with a shaker 1000 and the factory radio it comes with has a on/off switch for the subs in the back, which is nice but will this radio render those subs useless or will they work but always remain on?
    cherri52  Mar 05, 2014
    1 answer
    A
The ability to retain your subs with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
