Sony MDR-XB650BT

The Sony MDR-XB650BT EXTRA BASS headphones (pictured in black) play music wirelessly and deliver powerful sound.

Today's EDM, pop, and hip-hop songs are all driven by deep, sometimes complex bass. The Sony MDR-XB650BT Bluetooth headphones let you experience all that low-end excitement. These on-ear headphones are arguably some of the best we carry when it comes to producing deep, powerful bass.

They offer up to 30 hours of battery life. So you can listen as you move through your busy day — or night — without worrying about recharging.

How much bass? You choose

Of couse it's not always about getting more bass, but getting just the right amount. What plays well with Pusha T may not register with Radiohead. When you listen in "standard" mode, the MDR-XB650BT headphones deliver solid, complementary low end. But when you need your music to knock, hit the Bass Boost button on the earcup.

Made to feel and sound good

Both the earpads and cushioned headband are built for optimal comfort and acoustics. The fit is pressure-free, so you can wear these 'phones for long periods of time. They're also built sturdy, which minimizes vibration, and creates a tight seal for serious bass impact.

Easy earcup controls for music and calls

Buttons on the left ear cup let you control your music and volume. If a call comes through, simply hit the answer button and talk through the built-in microphone. The kicker? Your phone can stay in your pocket the whole time.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Sony MDR-XB650BT Bluetooth wireless on-ear headphones let you enjoy your music without the hassle of dangling cables. The headphones have Bluetooth wireless technology, as well as the easy pairing of NFC. The soft earpads and padded headband let you listen for hours without fatigue. The headphones come with a USB charging cable.

Bluetooth: The MDR-XB650BTs feature Bluetooth 4.0 to wirelessly deliver crystal clear audio from a compatible digital music player, smartphone, tablet, or computer within a range of approximately 30 feet (10 meters). The headphones are compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles: Headset Profile (HSP), Hands-Free Profile (HFP), Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), and Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP). Built-in apt-X, SBC, and AAC codec support provides maximum signal quality when streaming your audio wirelessly.

NFC: With compatible Android smartphones (Android 2.3.3 or later), you can pair with the headphones using NFC (Near Field Communication) using the one-touch connection method. By simply touching the device to the "N" mark on the left ear cup, the phone and headphones are instantly connected.

Sound Quality Mode: The MDR-XB650BT headphones let you switch the sound quality mode, if needed. The unit is set to "Priority on Sound Quality" mode by default. In this setting, the headphones automatically switch to aptX, AAC, or SBC, depending upon which codec is being transmitted from the source device. If the connection is unstable, you can switch the headphones to "Priority on Stable Connection" to switch to the SBC codec for a better connection.

Extra Bass: The MDR-XB650BTs Extra Bass design emphasizes the deep heavy bass sounds, making them ideal for electronic dance music, rock, and other bass-heavy music genres. The earpads provide an acoustic seal to give you good sound isolation and deep, tight bass.

Music/Phone Controls: The headphones have built-in controls on the right ear cup for music playback as well as phone calls. When listening to music via Bluetooth, you can use the two-way slide switch for skip next/previous, fast forward/reverse. Pressing the slide switch allows you to pause/play the music or answer/end a phone call. A separate rocker switch controls volume up or down. An omnidirectional, electret condenser microphone is located on the right ear cup for making phone calls. The mic's frequency response is 100-4000Hz.

Swiveling Ear Cups: The ear cups on the MDR-XB650BT swivel out to let you listen to external sounds or carry on a conversation. When not in use, the swiveling ear cups fold flat for easy storage.

Drivers: The MDR-XB650BTs have 30mm drivers that deliver full and balanced sound. You can enjoy a full 20Hz-20kHz frequency response when streaming music.

Rechargeable Battery: The MDR-XB650BT has a built-in 3.7-volt Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. The LED indicator on the right ear cup flashes red to indicate the current battery status: 3x High, 2x Medium, and 1x Low. The voice guidance also gives the battery status when first powered on. The battery fully charges in about 4 hours via the supplied USB charging cable. Maximum battery life estimates (with Bluetooth) are as follows:

Music Playback 30 hours
Communications 30 hours
Standby 300 hours
Note: About 10 hours of continuous use is possible after 1 hour of charging.
