More bass when you want it

Some customers like headphones that deliver a heavy dose of bass all the time. But others like to pick and choose their spots for enhanced low frequencies. That's just what these headphones allow you to do. When you encounter a track that demands a little more bottom end, just press the Bass Boost button on the earcup. The built-in digital signal processor will work its magic, boosting the low frequencies and giving your music more bounce and punch.

Features

Overview: The Sony MDR-XB950BT Bluetooth wireless headphones let you enjoy your music without the hassle of dangling cables. The headphones have Bluetooth wireless technology, as well as the easy pairing of NFC. A switchable Electro Bass Boost function gives your music a more powerful sound when you want it. The soft earpads gently surround your ears for hours of comfort. The headphones come with a USB charging cable and an audio connecting cable for those times when you need to plug the headphones in.

Bluetooth: The MDR-XB950BTs feature Bluetooth 3.0 to wirelessly deliver crystal clear audio from a compatible digital music player, smartphone, tablet, or computer within a range of approximately 30 feet (10 meters). The headphones are compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles: Headset Profile (HSP), Hands-Free Profile (HFP), Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), and Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP). Built-in apt-X and AAC codec support provides maximum signal quality when streaming your audio wirelessly.

NFC: With compatible Android smartphones (Android 2.3.3 or later), you can pair with the headphones using NFC (Near Field Communication) using the one-touch connection method. By simply touching the device to the "N" mark on the right ear cup, the phone and headphones are instantly connected.

Music/Phone Controls: The headphones have built-in controls on the right ear cup for music playback as well as phone calls. When listening to music via Bluetooth, you can use the two-way slide switch for skip next/previous, fast forward/reverse. Pressing the slide switch allows you to pause/play the music or answer/end a phone call. A separate rocker switch controls volume up or down. An omnidirectional, electret condenser microphone is located on the front of the left ear cup for making phone calls. The mic's frequency response is 100-4000Hz.

Electro Bass Boost: The MDR-XB950BT is equipped with an Electro Bass Boost circuit that delivers extra bass at the press of a button.

Note: The Electro Bass Boost feature does not operate when the headphones are connected via the included cable.

Swiveling Ear Cups: The ear cups on the MDR-XB950BT swivel out to let you listen to external sounds or carry on a conversation. When not in use, the swiveling ear cups fold flat for easy storage.

Drivers: The MDR-XB950BTs have large 40mm drivers that deliver full and balanced sound. You can enjoy a full 20Hz-20kHz frequency response when streaming music, and an extended frequency of 3Hz-20kHz when using the supplied cable.

Rechargeable Battery: The MDR-XB950BT has a built-in 3.7-volt Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that fully charges in about 4 hours via the supplied USB charging cable. Maximum battery life estimates (with Bluetooth) are as follows:

Music Playback 20 hours
Communications 20 hours
Standby 200 hours
Note: About 7 hours of continuous communication is possible after 1 hour of charging.

Where can i buy the headphone cord (for wired listening)? I lost the one that came with the headphones and i would like another cord.

Thanks for your question. Both ends of the cord use the 3.5mm stereo miniplug. If you are looking for the same type that has the right angle on one end and straight on the other we do have a couple available, 3ft and 6ft length. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142AUX6FBK/Scosche-flatOUT-Mini-Stereo-Cable-6-feet.html and http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142AUX3FBK/Scosche-flatOUT-Mini-Stereo-Cable-3-feet.html Hope that helps.

Q
What 3.5mm audio cable will work with this headset. It appears its proprietary as the port is recessed and normal cables won't fit? They still make the cable?
chad  Feb 13, 2016
1 answer
A
The supplied cable is the standard 3.5mm minijack connection on both ends: straight plug on one side, right angle on the other end. You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the headphone's main webpage. It under the "What's in the Box?" heading. I hope that helps! Q
What is lowest temperature these headphones can get? Because where I live it's very cold, so I don't want to break them in my first try.
ib-flow  Oct 25, 2015

A
Looking at the owner's manual, I see Sony lists the following precaution: "Do not place this headset in a place exposed to humidity, dust, soot or steam, subject to direct sunlight, or in a car waiting at a traffic signal. It may cause a malfunction." They don't have any precautions listed for exposure to low temperatures and they include a 1-year warranty with these headphones; so if something happened during your first use, you'd be covered.
