Sony built enough power and features into the Xplod XM-1505SX 5-channel amplifier to run your entire system — front speakers, rear speakers, and subwoofer! This aggressively-styled amp features efficient MOSFET output devices so the juice will be there when you need it.

Convenient high-pass/low-pass crossovers (variable from 50-300 Hz) let you tune your system for maximum efficiency. All wiring terminals are recessed under the edge of the heat sink for a neater-looking installation.

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Inputs/Outputs

Features

Pulse Power Supply: The pulse power supply regulates fluctuating voltage from the car's battery to keep the output power of the amplifier from fluctuating with the input voltage; this results in consistent power delivery despite input voltage fluctuations.

2-Channel Input/5-Channel Output Capability: Although this unit includes six RCA inputs, only the two front RCA inputs need to receive a signal to produce output from the front, rear and subwoofer channels. This allows you to use a receiver with only two RCA outputs to provide signals to all channels, without the use of "Y" adapters.

Crossovers: This amplifier includes continuously variable crossovers for the front, rear and subwoofer channels. The front and rear channels are processed by a 12dB/octave high-pass filter that is active at all times; the cut-off frequency settings are continuously variable from 50 to 300Hz. The subwoofer channel is processed by a 12dB/octave low-pass filter that is active at all times; the subwoofer crossover frequency setting is continuously variable from 50 to 300Hz.

Test-tone: The amplifier includes a built-in oscillator that can be activated to check system performance; if the test-tone button is pressed and tones are heard through your speakers, the amplifier is in good working condition.

Protection circuitry:

  • Over current: shuts off the amp when the input signal is too high
  • Offset: shuts off the amp when the output voltage is too high
  • Thermal: shuts off the amp when the operating temperature is too high

Specifications

Specifications:

  • Supply voltage for power ratings: 14.4V DC
  • RMS power at 4 ohms: 40 watts x 4 (front: 50-20kHz, rear: 20-20kHz) + 150 watts x 1 (20-300Hz), at 0.04% THD
  • RMS power at 2 ohms: 60 watts x 4 (front: 50-20kHz, rear: 20-20kHz) + 180 watts x 1 (20-300Hz), at 0.1% THD
  • Bridged mode: 120 watts x 2 (50-20kHz, 0.1% THD at 4 ohms) + 150 watts x 1 (20-300 Hz at 0.04% THD at 4 ohms)
  • Peak output: 80 watts x 4 + 300 watts x 1 at 4 ohms
  • Operating voltage: 10.5-16V allowable
  • Current consumption (at rated output): 42 A

Controls and Indicators

Controls:

  • Crossover frequency controls: inset rotary controls that set the crossover cut off frequency; there are three controls, one for the front channels, one for the rear channels and one for the subwoofer channel
  • Level controls: inset rotary controls used to set the amplifier's input sensitivity to match the level of the incoming signal; there are three controls, one for the front channels, one for the rear channels and one for the subwoofer channel
  • Test Tone button: allows for system condition check; if tones are heard when the button is pressed,  the system is in good condition
  • INPUT MODE select switch: when no input lead is connected to the subwoofer input RCA terminals, this switch can be used to change the sub output as follows:
    • F: uses the signal that is input to the front RCA inputs to feed the subwoofer channel
    • F+R: combines the signals that are input to the front and rear RCA inputs, then feeds the summed signals to the subwoofer channel

Indicators:

  • Over Current LED: illuminates in red when receiving a powerful signal
  • Offset LED: illuminates in red when the voltage going out to the speaker terminal or the pin jack is too high
  • Thermal LED: illuminates in red when the temperature rises to an unsafe level
  • Power LED: illuminates green when the unit is on

Inputs/Outputs

Inputs:

  • +12V (power): screw terminal (0.428" wide)
  • GND (ground): screw terminal (0.428" wide)
  • REM (remote turn-on): push-pin spring terminal (accepts 16- to 22-gauge wire)
  • Line-Inputs: six RCA jacks (2 front, 2 rear and 2 subwoofer)
  • Fuse: 30 amp fuse (inserted)

Outputs:

  • Speaker outputs: ten screw terminals (0.35" wide)
