A variable (50-300 Hz) crossover lets you tune bass output for your car's acoustic environment. Add in MOSFET power supplies, MOSFET output stages, gold-plated connectors, and built-in bass boost (0-10 dB at 40 Hz), and you'll agree — the XM-1600GSD is the ruler of the low-frequency kingdom.

Xplod amps are the perfect choice if you want a professional-looking, clean installation. Since the controls and gold-plated connectors are hidden under one side of the heat sink, none of the screws or terminals are visible from above the amp.

I've had this amp since 2003 and have had it in now 5 vehicles. Powered 3 JL 12W6 subs in 2 cars and 4 Polk 12s in a Suburban all 1ohm and crushed it. It can get hot to the touch and has thermal protection but has never cut off, I do run a computer fan on it. Also use a Voodoo 1.5 farad capacitor. It's my favorite sub amp I've ever owned. If I could find another I would buy it immediately.

Pros: Tons of reliable power in a small package.

Cons: Power connections could be better. Sony didn't make enough of them.

Owned this amp for many years now, only had it fixed once due to some water that leaked into it, just had new mosfets installed and now still continues to work great!!! Has ben hooked up to 2 12" L7's set at 1 ohm with out clippin, though the speakers could use more watts this amp handles them just fine. also had it hooked up to 3 10" sony xplod set at 1.3ohms as well and it blew all 3 speakers!!!!! Great amp and reccomend it if you can find one.

Features

Class D Technology: Class D amplifier design is used to maximize efficiency, while maintaining the ability to drive difficult loads. This design allows the amp to deliver a lot of power without generating as much heat as other amplifier designs, and it can drive a 1-ohm load.

Crossover: This amplifier includes a 12dB/octave low-pass crossover, continuously variable from 50-300 Hz. Since this amplifier is made specifically for driving subwoofers, the crossover is always active; it is not possible to obtain full range output from this amplifier.

Bass Boost: Bass response may be boosted from 0 to +10dB for frequencies around 40 Hz.

Test-tone: The amplifier includes a built-in oscillator that can be activated to check system performance, if the test-tone button is pressed and tones are heard through your speakers, the amplifier is operating normally.

Protection circuitry:

  • Over current: Shuts off the amp when the input signal overloads
  • Offset: Shuts off the amp when the output voltage is too high
  • Thermal: Shuts off the amp when the operating temperature is too high

Line-out: One set of RCA stereo jacks is provided for easy connection to a second amp, the output signal is a full-range pass through signal from the inputs.

  • Line-In: Two RCA jacks

Note: There are two +/- pair of speaker terminals, but they are shorted together (wired in parallel) internally and they provide mono output. If two 4-ohm speakers are connected, one to each set of terminals, the amplifier will see a 2-ohm load.

Wiring Recommendations

Wiring Recommendations: This amplifier uses three 25-amp fuses, so its fuse rating (75-amps total) exceeds that of typical 4 gauge wiring kits, which tend to include 60-amp fuses. You may use a pre-packaged 4 gauge wiring kit and purchase an 80 amp AGU fuse, use a pre-packaged 4 gauge wiring kit and purchase an ANL-style fuse holder and an 80-amp ANL wafer fuse (a 75 amp is not available), or the items for the wiring can be purchased separately.
