Cone Design: The XS-GS80L uses an MRC cone (Mica Reinforced
Cellular glass fiber composite) to reduce weight and increase rigidity, delivering
deep bass response.
Surround: To improve cone motion control, the surround is
made of ThermoPlastic Olefin (TPO), a combination of rubber, polypropylene,
polyethylene, and a reinforcing filler.
Spring Posts: The spring post wire terminals will accept
pin connectors, single banana plugs, and bare wire up to 10 gauge. The binding
posts are spaced too far apart to accept dual banana plugs.
Enclosure Compatibility: This woofer can provide extended
bass in sealed and ported enclosures:
- Sealed Enclosure Volume: 0.32 cubic
- Ported Enclosure Volume: 0.41 cubic
feet using one 2-3/8" diameter x 6-3/4" long
Specification Note: Sony's rated power spec for the XS-GS80L
is 220 watts (derived using IEC 60268-5 standards). They also list the CEA 2031
compliant RMS power as 280 watts. We've adopted the 220 watt rating simply because
it's the more conservative figure.
