Our take on the Sony XS-V1641H

Go ahead, let your eyes linger on the star-shaped, sculpted grilles of Sony's 4-way XS-V1641H 6-1/2" speakers. But don't stop there — there's so much more to love!

Go ahead, let your eyes linger on the star-shaped, sculpted grilles of Sony's 4-way XS-V1641H 6-1/2" speakers. But don't stop there — there's so much more to love!

Each powerful speaker sports a pair of PEI dome tweeters for highs that will cut through no matter how much bass you're driving. The paper semi-dome midrange brings out the warmth in the vocal range, and the Highly Oriented Polyolefine (H.O.P.) woofer cone offers high rigidity with low mass and minimal resonance for full, deep bass.

Couple the efficient design with a robust power handling (up to 65 watts RMS), and you've got speakers that will blow you away with great sound, as well as great looks!

I got theese in my 01 nissan altima. The speakers hit the highs and voice clearly. The bass is so-so. I gave this 5 stars because i didnt buy these for bass i have 2 subs. If your ganna get these look into somthing that can hit the lows more effectively.

I installed these speakers in the doors of my S-10 pickup, and they put out all the sound I was looking for. They hit the high notes very well, but they aren't made for putting out lots of bass so don't expect much from them. If you want bass you should buy a sub, but if your looking for the rest of the sound spectrum these speakers will serve you well. I want my truck to sound like a concert on wheels, and I believe these speakers will make it possible.

Great speakers

Great speakers. Very crisp clean mids & highs. Lows are good, but I still want to install a subwoofer. On a side note, I installed these just fine in my 1997 Nissan Pickup, even though crutchfield's online service says they won't fit. I just needed to drill 4 holes.

OK

I replaced my old, worn out, paper-cone stock '89 Honda Accord speakers with these in the rear deck. They have improved the sound of my system beyond what I ever imagined. I have a pair of Sony XS-V1630 speakers in the front with an Aiwa X204 head unit (hey, I'm on a budget) which makes for a very nice balance of highs, mids, and lows throughout the whole car. Granted, these 4 way speakers seem to push a bit more volume than the 3 ways so I found that adjusting the fader by nudging it one click to the front makes the sound stage very balanced.

I guess the only problem I have with them (and it is small) is that there is a slight bit of distortion at very high volume (however, maxing out one's receiver would probably distort any brand of speakers if one does not have an extra amp). For my taste a somewhat louder listening volume is what I enjoy and the entire sound spectrum is covered well. Overall, for the price, these speakers shine. I would recommend these to anyone who wants a factory upgrade. Looking at the disintegrated foam particles from my old speakers makes me appreciate these Sony 4 ways even more.

All Show, Bad Sound

I bought these speakers for my Camaro. They look very nice. The H.O.P woofer is basically plastic. The bass from it sounds like weak plastic vibrating. The mid- bass is terrible. The treble from the tweeters are good. Test out in store before you buy! I got a refund.

Speakers work great. Greatly reduced distortion, even with stock cd player. Their was a blob of plastic on woofer behind tweeter but did not affect function. Almost too small for speaker holes in rear of 98 dakota club cab.

Features

H.O.P. Woofer: The woofers are made of Highly Oriented Polyolefine (H.O.P.), which is 30 times stronger than regular poly. Use of this material results in less distortion and better, quicker response. For a smoother response and increased durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.

Midrange: Each speaker features a 1 3/16" Balanced semi-dome midrange. A balanced dome driver is a combination of equal parts dome and cone. It is a cone driver in that it has a conventional surround with a centered voice coil, and it's also a dome driver in that a significant part of its surface area is convex in shape. Balanced dome drivers offer good off-axis response with a minimum of "beaming".

Tweeter: Each speaker uses a 13/32" PEI film dome tweeter. PEI (Poly-Ether Imide) film is a polymer film that has ideal sound characteristics, making it perfect for use as a tweeter. A PEI film dome tweeter produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Super Tweeter: Each 11/32" Super tweeter is made of the same PEI material as the tweeters.
