They're better than stock, but turn down the bass.

I bought these puppies close to a year ago. I've had 'em in my 1999 Explorer connected to an Aiwa 52x4 head unit.

They have ok sound, but not nearly as crisp and clear as several other higher-end products. They have next to no bass, and if you turn the bass up, they clip and distort badly. They're not bad when you have subwoofers, though. If you play them well within their RMS, they sound pretty good. I've played them loud, and they'll hit high volume (with the bass off), but not extremely clearly.

Bottom Line: For the money, they're not too bad. They don't have enough bass response, and they don't handle high volume well. I'd just recommend spending the extra 20 bucks to get a better quality speaker. If you do get them, subs are a must to accompany them.

UMMM.. yeah

Well ive had these speakers for a long time in my explorer.. and its a shame because i spent the money on them and now have to save up for something to replace them. the midbass/bass is extremely weak and the tweeters are VERY harsh at high volumes.. worst sound quality ive probably ever heard in aftermarket speakers. please save up for something a little better for the money, youll be glad you did. I only gave these speakers a 2 because they do what they were designed to, but they just do it in a very bad way. crutchfield offers many other great coaxial speakers.. go with one of them.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The woofer cones are constructed of red polypropylene, which has a rigid structure for low distortion and accurate sound reproduction. In addition, the polypropylene woofers give you clear, powerful bass. Each woofer uses a treated cloth surround.

1-1/8" PEI Cone Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1-1/8" PEI cone tweeter. PEI (Polyetherimide) is a polymer that offers high resistance against harsh environmental extremes, superior rigidity, and sonic purity.

Spacers: The speakers include 5/16" spacers to use when bottom-mounting the speakers.
