Physical Features: The front of the unit is a dark gray plastic with a built-in handle and gray metal grilles covering the speakers.  The caps over the rear ports are dark gray colored as well, and the rest of the unit is white.  The overall design is oriented to Sony's S2 Sports line of portable boom boxes.  This unit uses a top-loading CD mechanism, and controls reside on the top and front of the unit.  The telescoping FM antenna attached to the top of the unit is 15.75" when raised.

MP3 Playback: This unit can play MP3 files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-R/W discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2 and Joliet formats. To compress a source for an MP3 file, Sony recommends setting the transfer bit rate to 128kbps with a 44.1 kHz sampling rate frequency, and using a constant bit rate (versus variable bit rate).  The maximum number of files is 255, and the maximum number of folders is 255. This player conforms to Version 1.1 of the ID3 tag format; so if the file has the ID3 tag information, "song title", "artist name", and "album name" can be displayed.

Digital AM/FM Tuner: This portable uses a digital AM/FM tuner, with a choice of either stereo or mono output.  You can also store preset stations.

Water Resistant Design: The buttons are sealed and the headphone and power jacks are each covered with a rubber plug. While the unit can withstand mild exposure to water, it is not meant to be immersed or come in continuous contact with water.

ESP (Electronic Shock Protection): This unit is equipped with 10 second ESP memory to keep CDs from skipping during periods of excessive vibration. When the ESP memory is full, the unit can be exposed to excessive vibration for up to 10 seconds before a CD will skip.

AC Power Adapter: An AC-to-DC power adapter is included so this unit may be powered using standard 120 volt, 60Hz AC power.  The input socket for this power adapter is located on the left side of the unit, beside the headphone output.  The jack is covered by a rubber plug to prevent water from entering.

Battery Operation: 6 "D" batteries (sold separately) can be used to power this unit. The battery life of 6 "D" batteries will vary depending on playback volume.

Headphone Output: There is a mini-jack stereo headphone output on the left side of the unit, beside the input socket for the power adaptor. The jack is covered by a rubber plug to prevent water from entering.

Mega Bass: This unit includes a Mega Bass feature to boost bass output. The Mega Bass feature may be turned on/off.
