AudioControl's 2XS 2-way crossover uses a steep 18 dB per octave slope to separate the high and low frequencies, along with a built-in line driver that'll beef up the signal so your amplifiers will have something clean and powerful to work with.

High- and low-pass filters

The 2-way crossover features one set of inputs and two sets of outputs: high-pass and low-pass. You can change the preset 90 Hz crossover point by installing another AudioControl module, or by modifying the module installed in your 2XS. A built-in filter removes subsonics from your signal so your amps and subs will play more efficiently.

Simple to set up and adjust

Once connected, the 2XS makes it simple to attain a strong and balanced signal for your amplifier — you adjust the levels for 1-volt or 3-volts minimum RMS output and for smooth-sounding response. Balanced inputs reject noise caused by your vehicle's electrical system, but internal switching gives you other options for dealing with ground loops.

Features

Crossover: The crossover point between the high-pass and low-pass outputs is 90 Hz and the crossover slope is 18 dB/octave. The crossover point is governed by a replaceable chip, so it can be modified.

Subsonic Filter: The subsonic filter crossover point is 33 Hz and the crossover slope is 18 dB/octave. The crossover point is governed by a replaceable chip, so it can be modified.

Line Driver: The adjustable output levels allow you to increase the head unit's line voltage to the top of your amp's input range; up to 9.5 volts RMS/13 volts peak. The output voltage is proportional to the input voltage; approximately 5.6 volt RMS input is required to drive 9.5 volts RMS output.

Balanced Inputs: Using the balanced differential input circuit cancels noise picked up in the transmission line between the 2XS and the source unit.

Ground Isolation: The power supply ground is switchable, in case of ground loop noise. The factory position is fully isolated (typically the best choice), but can be changed to Ground or 200Ω.

Terminal Blocks: The power/ground/remote terminal is removable; the wiring is attached to the terminal block, then the block is plugged into the 2XS. The terminal block will accommodate wire up to 12 gauge.

I'm replacing my door speakers and I plan on basically making my own component set up. My previous ones had a passive crossover that came with them. So one for each door with the mid and high connecting to it. With this active crossover, do I need one per door also?

If you are running separates in each door yes, I would suggest getting one passive for each door which would provide you with a cleaner sound per door speaker set up. If not I would go with the active.

You only need one of these. Please note this is NOT a high level crossover; you can not run speaker level output through it. You will need 2 amplifiers; one for high frequency and one for low. Also, please read the manual before you buy. You will have to create a resistor pack (or two) to Match the crossover frequency you want; this is not a "dial adjust" adjustable setting.

No just one is all u need. For the setup I would suggest having a four channel amp and running all the tweeters on the front channels and the mids on the rear channels

Can this be used for bi-amped component speakers where above 3 kHz would go to the tweeter, and below 3 kHz would go to the mid range speaker?

What Richard said. Great answer. We don't carry the replacement modules however so that would be something you would need to source from AudioControl directly.

Absolutely. You must purchase an 18db per octave 3000 hz module from Audiocontrol and replace the internal 90hz module with it. Costs something like 12 to 15 dollars. But then the High output of the 2XS will produce 3000hz and above and the low output will of course produce 3000 and below. There is a second filter module in the 2XS which is a high pass module for the low output. From the factory, it is a 33hz high pass filter module. You can either replace that module with the 90hz that came in the unit, or purchase another purchased frequency module to create a band pass output on the Low output of the 2XS

Does it come with the chip modules used for changing the crossover point? What are all the possible crossover points for this device? And how are the modules installed? Are they direct solder?

It does not come with any crossover possibilities. You get the modules from the factory. As I undersfand they are plug in, not solder. Factory set crossover HA is 90HZ.

Oh.. additional note; crossover points are pretty much infinite, and if you use breadboard and long resistor leads (cut to length) , you can just pop them in and out of socket.

It comes with 1 set of chip modules. I made my own with standard breadboard and a bunch of quality resistors. You change the crossover points by making new resistor modules. (I think you can buy them, but it's silly easy to make). The modules fit into a 16 pin dip socket. Only caution I have to make is that I made a 500 and 5000 module and both showed slightly out of phase output on high/low outputs. Manufacturer said that is expected, but seemed odd. (Maybe 40 degrees out on o-scope). I was pleased with the result. Used this to drive midrange and tweeter set.
