Bring out the bass
AudioControl's EPIC-160 bass processor will maximize the low-frequency power of your system, whether you get your bass from a small bass tube or a multi-woofer competition setup. Simply install this processor between your car's receiver and your amps, and hear what you've been missing.
Restores fundamental tones
The EPIC-160 uses the bass enhancement circuitry of AudioControl's legendary "The Epicenter" bass processor to analyze the signal coming from your receiver, restore low bass fundamental tones, and increase your bass response without stressing out your speakers. And you can connect the EPIC-160 to just about any receiver, thanks to its speaker- and preamp-level inputs.
Simple and effective
One twist of the bass knob, and you'll hear the bottom returning to your music. The EPIC-160 does a great job of pumping up your digital music files or live recordings, restoring low bass that's been lost to compression or poor recording. Separate parametric controls let you fine tune bass response and allow you to choose the center frequency for the bass maximization circuitry.
SPL meter for competitors
You'll also get an SPL display that uses a built-in microphone to measure the sound pressure level of your system all the way up to 160 dB. The display also monitors your battery voltage, a nice feature if you've been showing off your system with your engine turned off. A warning light lets you know when interior sound levels exceed 120 dB so you can use ear protection.

AudioControl EPIC-160 Reviews
Average Customer Review:
NO WAY would I be without an EPICENTER! I have 4 of them! One in my daily driver, one in my fun vehicle, one in my Home Theatre (14x18" subs + 13,000 watts)- ooohhh! AND of course- ONE in my SHOW TRUK! BUT- who could have thot that AC COULD make the EPIcenter better than the Original? Well- they did! This PIMP piece is the Fatwhacker of all time! The SWEEP function, and then GAIN are just absurd for BASS! For sure- it is the Ultimate Phase- Coupled Activator technology, but this EPI-160 goes beyond! The Sweep, defines what BASS should sound like- period! IN a car or truk or house. There is NO OTHER WAY to get BASS than without an EPIcenter. ALL the equalization and power amps in the world, will NOT be able to fill the need that this little gizmo does! IF the BASS frequencies are NOT present in the signal, even with HUGE subs- ur not going to get the bass u deserve. THIS BEAST will have ur 10" producing MORE bass than an 18" WITHOUT an EPICENTER! You dont need massive speakers to get bass, when u have this fantastic device! It DOES use up ur bass amp power very quickly tho, as the low freqs require much more power, so ensure u have the amp power u'll need. The SWEEP adjustment will give you, Boomy- to TIGHT bass response- YOUR CALL on where u want to stop the tuning and crank the Restoration knob! TOTALLY alter the bass response in ur vehicle with this little puppy. The Voltage & SPL display are a valued bonus!
Good for Specialized Need
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This is the same device as the epicenter, epicenter plus, except that this unit mounts under your h.u. or under your dash. Beware: the specs state that this is a 1/2 din unit. it's a tad smaller. Be prepared for a little custom fabrication on the install side. This amp is perfect at what it does, it's restores the bottom end to compressed audio. On artists like metallica, guns and roses, pantera, etc. It brings a wonderful new depth and punch to the audio. I've found that this processor is best for the above styles of music. On hip-hop and the like, it restores, but the restoration is rather "boomy" and not so punchy. this may appeal to some tastes....
The slp level indicator, and the volt meter, as well as the parabass adustment knobs work as promised. The led dislapy however, is WAY too dime to see in daylight hrs. Verdict: good for specific needs, folks with alot of mp3's, etc. 3 out of 5 stars............

Description: The Epic-160 is a bass processor with Bass Restoration and Para-Bass circuits. The 1/2 DIN chassis can be mounted in-dash, or under-dash using the included brackets.
Bass Restoration: Rather than simply turning up the bass, the patented bass restoration circuit takes a full range input signal and measures the upper harmonics of the bass frequency range to determine what frequencies have been lost during the recording process, then correctly restores the missing bass information. The rotary knob allows you control how much bass is restored to the system. The bass restoration feature can be turned off when it's not needed.
Para-Bass: Para-Bass is a single band, parametric equalizer for the bass output. The center frequency and width of the band are adjusted using the front panel knobs.
Balanced Input: Using the balanced differential input circuit cancels noise picked up in the transmission line between the Epic-160 the the source unit. If necessary, the input can be changed to unbalanced.
Ground Isolation: The power supply ground is switchable, in case of ground loop noise. The factory position is fully isolated (typically the best choice), but can be changed to Ground or 200Ω.
Display: A digital display on the front panel shows either the input battery voltage or the SPL measured by the front panel microphone. The peak function holds the highest SPL measured until the unit is turned off (or until the peak function is turned off). If the microphone measures SPL at 120 dB or higher, a warning light appears in the display.
Terminal Blocks: The power/ground/remote/illumination terminal and the speaker level input terminal are removable; the wiring is attached to the block, then the block is plugged into the rear panel of the Epic-160.
Illumination: The outer ring of each knob is lit whenever the illumination terminal is energized. The color is switchable between green and amber. The digital voltage/SPL display is red.
