AudioControl LC2i (black) OEM Line Converter

Main and subwoofer outputs give you more options for connecting outboard amps.

Get your bass back

Some factory radios dial down the bass as you turn up the volume to protect their speakers. The problem is, they don't give it back when you upgrade to a nice set of aftermarket speakers. AudioControl packs the LC2i with their AccuBASS™ circuitry that reverses the factory bass rolloff, giving you the bass you need to enjoy your music to the fullest. Place the LC2i between your factory system and your bass amp, and you'll hear a huge difference in bass response.

High-voltage signal for great sound

Some premium systems use multi-wire speaker cables for systems with multiple speakers. The LC2i features two speaker-level inputs that let you connect amplified signals up to 400 watts, including cables from Bose® and other premium factory systems. The LC2i then sends out a high-powered preamp signal — up to 9.5 volts RMS — that helps every amp perform to its maximum ability.

Convenience

The optional dash-mount remote control allows you to adjust the level of your sub channel on the go. The speaker-level inputs sense incoming signals and turn on the LC2i, while a built-in 12-volt trigger tells your amps or other gear to turn on when you start your car.

Features

Overview: The AudioControl LC2i is an active, high-voltage OEM line converter. This compact, two-channel processor with active input circuitry, accepts speaker-level signals of up to 400-watts per channel from factory-installed source units or amplifiers. It then converts the speaker-level signals to high-quality pre-amp signals that can be directed to after market processors and/or amplifiers. You no longer have to compromise when performing basic amplifier additions to factory installed audio systems. You can enjoy maximum sound quality while maintaining the use of your factory volume and steering wheel controls.

Compact Chassis Design: The AudioControl LC2i active, high-voltage OEM line converter features a compact chassis for an unobtrusive installation.

Two Channel Speaker-Level Input: The AudioControl LC2i features a two channel active/speaker-level input that accepts up to 400-watt per channel signals. The two-channel line-output converter features removable set-screw Phoenix terminals for quick connection.

9.5V Preamp Outputs: The AudioControl LC2i is equipped with 9.5-volt RMS (13-volt peak) preamp outputs w/ level matching controls. It features a pair of Main preamp outputs (for full-range amplifiers) and a pair of Bass preamp outputs (for subwoofer amplifiers).

Active Circuitry: The active circuitry used in the LC2i provides dramatically better sound quality and does not compromise the bass response.

AccuBass: The AudioControl LC2i features AccuBass processing for correction of bass roll-off. AccuBass processing automatically corrects for the bass roll-off that is common with many factory installed audio systems. AccuBass Bass Compensation works at any volume level.

Threshold and Level Controls: Simple Threshold and Level controls allow users to optimize the bass response to match their speaker system.

GTO (Great Turn On): The AudioControl LC2i utilizes selectable GTO auto sensing turn-on circuitry so no remote wire is needed. The LC2i turns on using the unit's speaker-level inputs. It also provides a 12-volt trigger output to turn on your amplifier.

Remote Level Control: The AudioControl LC2i is equipped with a Bass Control Input (RJ-14) for optional remote bass level control (sold separately).

Mounting: The LC2i features integrated mounting flanges to mount the unit under a seat, in the trunk, or under the dash. No mounting hardware is supplied.

Power Connections: The AudioControl LC2i requires a hardwired power and ground connection to your vehicle's 12-volt electrical system. The line-output converter features removable set-screw Phoenix terminals for quick connection.

Q
can i use the lc2i to run a 4 channel amp for only door speakers since it has 2 different inputs with channel A and B?
kekoa  Jan 24, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Kekoa. Thank you for your question. You can use the 2-channel full range output to a 4-channel amp. You might need RCA Y splitters to your amp from the LC2i, and you will lose the ability to fade front to rear.

Q
Does this item need airflow or can it be mounted in a sealed environment? if it needs airflow, how open of an area should it be mounted in?
reece  Dec 24, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Reece. Thank you for your question. The Audio Control Line Output Converters draw very little current, its the high current drawing devices that generate a lot of heat. Like amplifiers for instance. This can be sealed if needed.

Greetings Eddie, sorry you are having issues with your LC2i. Unfortunately you will need to call in for some technical support on this problem. If you purchased this from Crutchfield you will have a direct number to speaker with a Crutchfield tech on your shipping confirmation email. If you purchased this elsewhere, you can always call Audio Control for support as well. Their number is 425-777-7723.

Q
A friend installed the LC2i without realizing what the Key500.1 is. Since they both have the same LOC function, will they interfere with each other? Or can he leave them as is with no issues?
jonny  Jan 31, 2023
1 answer
A
They actually do not have exactly the same process in the line output converter, Jonny. The Accubass restoration feature is not present on the Kicker Key 500.1. Since the LC2i is already installed and presumably tuned correctly you can feel free to run the Kicker Key as a straight mono amp. I would not run the DSP on the Key as it could be troublesome processing the signal twice. No worries on leaving the LC2i as-is. Keep in mind we provide lifetime Technical Support for items purchased, so that is a big reason to shop with us instead of other retailers. I hope this helps!

Q
I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Alpine Surround. I swapped the factory sub for 2- Alpine Type E 10's in a custom box (by Fox Acoustics) and kept everything else factory (HU and speakers). I'm pushing the subs with a MRP-M500 mono power amplifier. Also, my factory HU ranges in volume from 0-40 maxed. Previously: I had connected a PAC-50 (LOC) via RCA cables to the amp which gave me some consistent beats and bass with punch (at volumes 8+). It felt as if the subs were hitting at 700 watts RMS/each. I liked this setup because I could increase the volume at the factory HU and not sacrifice any bass punch which was usually at 34 (about 80% maxed). The problem I ran into was the PAC-50 burning up and channeling offline when it overheated from the push. The short-fix (which I did for several years) was to power off the vehicle, disconnect the RCA outputs from the LOC and reconnect them, then startup the truck. The best fix was to replace the LOC with a better unit- LC2i (or so I was told). Currently: PAC-50 swapped for the LC2i. The problem now is that it sounds like there was never any bass roll-off before initializing the setup with the LC2i unit- which has made it difficult to tune and still doesn't sound right (I've done this several times without any successes). The Accubass Level, Bass Level, and Accusbass Threshold Controls are all maxed out (clockwise) and my subs aren't hitting like they used to- maybe around 80-100 watts RMS/each). I've also noticed a few things regarding the sound: 1) sounds as if treble may be coming through the subs (as if the sound from factory highs and mids are crossing over into the subs). 2) at higher HU volumes (20+) my treble is LAF (but clean) and the bass sounds flat. It also sounds at lower frequencies that the subs want to kick in and hit like they used to (as if they're priming to hit), as a delayed reaction, but never hit. It's hard to explain but my overall experience with the LC2i has not been that great and I'm not impressed despite all the great things I've heard about using this product. My question: Is the bass supposed to sound flat? Are my subs supposed to also to be playing full-range audio with the LC2i connected, or do I need someone to walk me through a better setup? I want my bass back. Please help.

Absolutely, That is Exactly what i did with mine in our 2016 F150. Works Great!! You simply pick up the signal from your factory speakers. Run a power and ground to it and your ready to install your amp and subs...

A
Yes just pull the sound off of the rear speaker wires. I used it on a few factory stereos. Works perfect for adding subwoofers.
robert  Aug 19, 2021
A
Yes they do you can split off of your rear speakers then run your RCA's to the amp.
andrew  Aug 19, 2021
Q
If I'm using this to power an amp for a pair of subs from rear speaker signals, how does the AccuBASS integrate with the sub amp gain, crossover, and bass control knob settings? Are the "MAIN" and "BASS" controls on the LC2i redundant when I can adjust the gain and volume control on my amp anyway?
aaron  Aug 02, 2021
1 answer
A
The accubass is a very nice signal converter. The unit has the ability to maximize the signal giving the best possible signal for your amp to process. It allows you to meet the levels of every thing else to get a nice rounded sound and gives the amp a turn on signal to boot. Keep in mind. The higher level and cleaner signal you give your amp, the lower you can have the gain to ensure the best sound possible

How can I disconnect active noise cancellation system on 2016 Chevy equinox?
zoltan  Jul 07, 2021

I'm guessing it has a NAV unit??? If so, you have to go into settings in your NAV unit, you might also go into settings in the instrument cluster. You can also get out your owner's manual, go to index in back, it should tell you in your owners manual. Good luck

If your vehicle has an Active Noise Cancellation system, you will have to disconnect that system to add in any aftermarket processors or amplifiers.

Yes I have my factory CD changer navigation and radio hooked up to a audio control device to install Amos and speakers to a stock radio head unit
khamsavath joe  Jun 08, 2021
A
Theoretically you could, but you wouldn't get any benefit out of it. The purpose of this unit is to provide clear, pre-amp signal to an aftermarket amp or sub. So if you aren't feeding an amp or sub with this, there wouldn't really be any point in installing it.

Q
Would this lc2 work with a 4 channel amp? I am only connecting 2 subs.
uziel  Dec 30, 2020
1 answer
A
Yes, bridge the amp to two channels, provide minimum ohm load to each channel. Most amps when bridged are only stable to 4 ohms, however some will go lower. Or you could bridge the rear channels of the amp send to one subwoofer, and run full range to a set of passively crossed components on the front channels. Decide what will work best for you and make it happen.

The LC2i is meant for integrating into a factory 2-channel output from either the head unit or external factory amplifier. I used the LC2i to tie into the factory center channel in my car, along with the LCQ-1 for the F/R/S signals. The aftermarket head unit may still be driving the factory amplifier, which I would bypass all together and send signal to your sub amp with the RCA outs from the head unit. The LC2i will not be beneficial to your application. My suggestion is a good quality 4-channel amplifier for the mids/highs, and remove the Mach amplifier since the head unit has been replaced.
michael  Dec 15, 2020
Q
I am looking to install a 10" subwoofer with a 600 RMS amplifier. Does the 400 RMS rating on this device correlate to the output of my amplifier or just to the input of the LC2?
cory  Nov 05, 2020
1 answer
A
This is a line out put converter, which allows you to add after market amps to a factory head unit. By wiring the head unit speaker output leads to the converter it allows you to send those signals to an amp via rca cables. The 400 rms rating is relevant only to the input power the line output converter can safely operate with. Meaning if the vehicle you plan to install this in has an amplified factory system this converter will work as long as the power output of the factory amp is less than 400 watts rms. Hope this answers your question.

Q
I want to add 2 subwoofers and an amp to my current stock system which already has a stock amp and single subwoofer. Should I disconnect the stock subwoofer, leaving the stock amp connected, and use those wires as the input for the LC2i while connecting to the stock amp for its power? Or disconnect the stock amp and run all the wires from that into the LC2i for speaker input and power? Thank you
shaawn  Jun 11, 2020
2 answers
A
I typically recommend getting the audio from the stock amp's outputs for the subwoofer. We know the bass is on those wires so this can do its job of cleaning up that sound and getting it ready for the new amp/sub setup
jason  Jun 24, 2020 (Staff)

It all depends if your factory sub distorts when you're playing your favorite songs if it does then it's time for that upgrade that you're doing and getting rid of it

Q
I recently installed a LOC on a new car for a friend. Its sound okay but we noticed the only way to get the sub louder after all gains had been turned up, was to turn the factory head unit bass setting up. We added an amp and sub to the existing system as he has no option to install a head unit on his 2019 nissan altima. Are there line out converters that can pass a signal to the amp that isnt mixed by the factory head unit? Thanks!
david  Mar 15, 2020

A
If you're factory system has a separate sub you have to tap into the sub signal. If not it's like having a hi pass on the amp.
kawila  Apr 18, 2020

The AudioControl LC2i is a LOC that also features bass restoration processing. This compensates for the factory radio rolling off the bass frequencies. If you purchased the LOC from Crutchfield our tech support can also help you troubleshoot the settings. You can reach them directly at the phone number at the bottom of your invoice.

Do i have to buy an LC2 to install an amp/sub into my 17 chevy silverado with factory stereo?
tony  Jan 16, 2020
2 answers
A
Hi Tony, thank you for your question. You do not have to purchase a line output converter to install an amp to your factory stereo in your truck. Using an amp with speaker level inputs can eliminate the need to use a converter, but you typically do notice a much better connection and signal strength by using a converter. Please chat with us online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. An Advisor will be happy to go over your setup and needs, and provide you with more personalized information.

My factory alpine amp in my ram truck has a crossover built in that cuts out signals below 50 hz. Since the lowest frequency going in is 50 hz the lowest frequency the lc2i can reproduce is 50 hz, correct? I can produce a signal lower than what's being sent in to the converter?

Hi Billy, thank you for your quesiton! This converter will not be the best solution for your needs. However, we may have some other solutions for you to improve the bass frequencies in your system. Please chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. They will be happy to go over your needs, and find the best product for your application!

I'm not 100% familiar with dodge audio systems but I would imagine if you wire the converter pre-amp (on the input rather than output wiring), then the signal would be full range and you'd have access to lower frequencies
kilian  Feb 03, 2020
Q
If I'm using the high-level inputs and only using the sub outs to drive a mono sub amp, do I need to tap both the left and right factory speaker lines or can I just tap one side? I see in one of the customer photos that it looks like they only tapped one side and then bridged it over to the second input on the LC2. Is there a downside to doing it that way other than losing stereo on the LC2 main outputs?
paul  Oct 16, 2019

A
Depends on car, your best bet would be to use both sidesEnter
trevor  Oct 29, 2019
A
You can use just one, but if it shifts left/right one or the other side will make the sub go quiet unless you tap both, that is a very specific scenario and usually not an issue, I'd say connect both if possible, but definitely not necessary or even noticeable 99% of the time

I have it in my 2016 4Runner and it still has rolloff for the lower end notes. I contact them and they said it will only boost to flatten at ~50 hz or something, can't remember exactly. It works well, just doesn't replace the lower frequencies that the stock headunit filters off.

I have an LC2i never opened because I wasn't sure how to hook it up to my factory system in my 2013 Scion xB I'd like to keep the existing head unit at this time and I'd like to add a sub with the amp I have, I've only hooked up subs and amps to aftermarket head units?

I've installed an LC2i in a couple of my vehicles and they work great. They are simple to install. I spliced into my existing left and right speaker wires (Posi Products wire connectors work great for this) and hooked them to the speaker inputs of the LC2i. Next I wired the +12v and ground of the LC2i with the power and ground of my Sub Amp. Lastly, I connected my RCA cable from the bass output of the LC2i to the RCA inputs of my sub amp. Some minor adjustments of the controls and you're good to go. I hope this helps.

not sure what the question is but the LC2i sounds like it will do the job if you are wanting to keep factory head unit and add aftermarket sub and amp. if you are looking for wiring/hook up instructions, i will save a lot of typing and refer you to the online manuals available through crutchfield...very simple to follow even if you have NOT hooked up these type devices before....hope that helps and good luck!!!

You're going to need to connect the LC2i inputs (L+,L-,R+,R-) in parallel to the outputs from your factory head unit. (Wire taps work great for this. Or you could always solder for a better connection.) Then you can run an RCA pair from the LC2i to your subwoofer amplifier, along with a remote wire from your factory head unit, along with a power wire from your battery. Hope this answers your question and if you don't understand this it would be best to have a professional take care of it.

Hey. With the LC2i you have a few options. You can use your factory subwoofer lines: cut out factory subwoofer and utilize its output as an input to your LC2i. If you dont have a factory subwoofer you can jump any of your other audio lines. There's more ways just check out your manual

Q
When the ACR-1 remote is connected, does it override and disable the bass volume dial on the front of the LC2i itself?
justin  Aug 27, 2018

A
i am fairly certain the remote only controls the main output level. Bass and AccuBASS will still be adjusted (if ever needed after initial setup) by front dials. Hope that helps!

Q
Can I use the factory sub line as the input to this device?
dan  Aug 06, 2018
2 answers
A
You probably can but it wouldn't be ideal. Factory sub line will be tuned for just bass and wont be the same quality as any line going to a regular speaker. You can use a speaker line to an equalizer or tune it straight thru the lc2i.

Shouldn't be a problem at all.

Q
Is it safe to tap into the power from the amp to supply power to the LC2i? Or do you need to run a separate fused power wire to the battery?
vince  Mar 15, 2018

A
It will work perfectly fine tapping into amp power. Just make sure you put a fuse in between the signal converter and where you tap in.
brian  Mar 27, 2018
A
You can run it directly off of your amp. It's 12 volt. Check the fuse rating on both to be sure it is sufficient. I ran it in this configuration and have not had any problems

It would..but you could only hook up 2 channels so it wouldnt be the best choice obviously ..the lc6 is what you need to use all 4 channles from your amp

Can you use this with a home stereo integrated amplifier, which doesn't have pre-out, to connect from the amp's speaker posts to rca line in powered monitors?

It requires 12 volt power, and is designed to work in an automotive environment, so I would think there would be a better solution for you.

Will this product create separation in the sound, or by tying into just one speaker does it eliminate the separation that goes on in the vehicle from left to right? My concern is that the added speakers will not have left right separation as if they were hooked up with an aftermarket head unit

You cant connect this with just 1 speaker if thats what you mean? If you was using it to connect just a sub..you would connect a left and right signal from your factory system to hook up a sub..same if you was using it to connect a set of speakers..Like using it to connect to a set of rear speakers or door speakers..you connect a left and right from factory system to the LC2..

I use multiple amps with my system so a seperate remote wire needs to be ran for each unit. The signal from your LC2i is only audio and that will not power an amp up. You have to be able to tell each unit that there is a signal to turn on, which is what your remote wire does.
ben  Aug 20, 2017
A
The unit will turn on your amplifier as it checks for signal every 5ish mins to determine if it needs to be on, that being said the amplifier will stay on for approximately 5 mins after the stereo or car is turned off.
shannon  Aug 20, 2017
A
You run a remote wire from the lc2i to the amp.

Under the Input and Output section of the description it says, "2 speaker-level inputs with 400 watts RMS power handling". Does this mean the largest amp that can be ran is 400 watts?

I believe that means the speaker level GOING into the LC2I which would mean amplified factory car stereos can still be sent into the LC2I most other line convertors cant accept Factory Amped signals where as this does

Will this unprocess the signal from either sub amp or rear speaker amp in 2017 Mustang with Shaker Pro system?

I'm not sure I fully understand your question so here's how I used it. I have a Lexus GX460 with the Mark Levinson sound system. It sounds great except the single 10 Subwoofer was not enough for my taste. So I added two 12 inch Subs with a Sony Xplod 1200 watt Amp. It has high level and low level inputs. My factory Mark Levinson amp has about 50 wires going to it to power 17 speakers. I did not want to risk blowing up the factory amp or head unit so I just unplugged to factory sub and wired it into the high level inputs of my Sony amp. It worked but still didn't have the punch that it used to have with my old SUV that had with a Kenwood head unit. So I bought this Audio Control LC2ib and wired in the same way except I wired it to the low level inputs of my Sony amp. Now I have all the bass anyone would want. With all the fine tuning adjustments on this Audio Controller I usually adjust the bass on my head unit almost all the down. This is exactly what I wanted so not to over work the other 16 speakers.

Q
If I use speaker level inputs and those speakers only receive low frequencies, will the RCA outputs only send low frequencies?
chris  May 16, 2017

I have the LC2i hooked up on a factory head unit in a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander. My inputs are taken off the front two channels and from there I have taken the signal to a small amp running a Focal mods and highs. I ordered the remote level control for my subs and run 2 Quantom 12" subs off the low output on the unit. The remote level on works great and shuts the system off when powered down. Totally impressed with the bass control preventing the drop off from the factory unit. Signal from the subs are low and clear with no distortion or roll off. If your putting a system in and don't want to mess with the factory head unit and controls this is the answer. All my functions of phone calls, the CD changer and the use of blue tooth with my phone clear and powerful. Hope this helps?
ben  May 17, 2017

Yes, if you use the bass RCA outputs.

Specs on the LC2i are 10hz/100khz....but my lows are dropping off at about 25 hz. I'm pretty sure my factory head unit is the culprit. Because there is no aftermarket kits offered to replace the stock unit, I'm considering utilizing the spacious glove compartment to house a high quality unit to correct this.....I miss my lows

ben  May 17, 2017

You should have a power wire coming in from your battery into the +12V input of the LC2i. There is no wire to connect to the remote in (once speaker wires are connected into the LC2i the signal of the music will activate it and turn the LC2i on. You will then have a wire coming from the LC2i remote out and into the remote in of the amp. You also need an additional power wire for the amp (4 gage) depending on application. Does this make sense?
joe  Sep 27, 2016
A
Mine stayed on for about 5 mins after the radio was off I think it checks for signal every few mins to turn on or off.

No not at all all the converter does is convert the fequency of the wires from high to low for the sub if you are tapping into door speakers. I ended up running my new amp to the sub output wires on my factory amp and didn't use the converter at all. You can control bass output from your new amp.
mario  Apr 21, 2016
A
You can adjust the bass on the LC2ib manually . But it will stay at the level you adjust it to. You will need the Acr-1 to adjust the bass on the fly from the driver seat

Hey can this power a massive audio d400x the amp dose require two sets of power an ground. I have had the amp at 8,000 watt peak. I just want to make sure this can handle the amp / will no blow my amp?
eric  Mar 24, 2016
1 answer
A
The converter will not "power" your amp, no. It will allow you to convert the high-level signal from factory amplified speaker leads into the RCA pre-amp connections for providing signal to your amplifier's RCA inputs. It also offers signal sensing turn-on for both it and your amplifier. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
