About the AudioControl LC7i

Buck Pomerantz

Want to add your own speakers, subs, and amps to a factory system?

AudioControl's LC7i 6-channel line output converter (LOC) with bass restoration allows you to add aftermarket amps, speakers, and subs to your car's factory radio, so you can enjoy better and more powerful sound without losing climate controls, voice-activated functions, or other built-in factory features. The LC7i accepts speaker-level signals, so you can use it with just about any setup, even high-powered amplified systems.

Summing

The LC7i sums its input signals together, even if they've been crossed over for tweeters, mids, and subs by the factory system. That way, you can count on a strong, smooth, full-range signal for your processors and amps. The LC7i features six RCA preamp outputs that'll handle a traditional front/rear/sub setup.

Why you have to restore the bass

Many factory radios actually turn the bass down as you increase the volume to protect the cheap factory speakers, subsequently removing much of your music's power and punch. AudioControl developed a patent pending AccuBASS™ circuit that restores the bass the factory radio erased, giving you much fuller and more enjoyable sound. The AccuBASS is applied to the subwoofer output channel, so your sub amp can have the entire, restored signal to work with.

Level-matching with an LED indicator

AudioControl makes it easy: set your factory stereo to about 3/4 maximum volume, turn the output level control of the LC7i until the "Maximized" light begins to flicker, then adjust the gain controls on your amps and you're done. You've level-matched the output of your receiver to the amplifier's input, so you can count on getting maximum performance and minimum noise from your system.

Convenience

The optional dash-mounted ACR-1 wired remote allows you to adjust the volume of the bass while you're on the go. The speaker-level inputs sense incoming signals and turn on the LC7i, while a built-in 12-volt trigger turns on your amps as well. If your factory system only has channels for front and rear speakers, AutoMode™ will create the output you can use for your subs.

Product Research

Features

Six Channel Line Output Converter: The AudioControl LC7i is a six channel active line converter which allows you to keep your factory installed source unit in your vehicle and still dramatically improve your car audio system performance. The LC7i accepts up to six channels of speaker-level signal from factory installed amplifiers or a source unit and converts it to a high quality, after market low-noise, pre-amp level signal that can be fed to amplifiers and speakers.

AccuBASS: The LC7i fixes one of the biggest letdowns of today's factory systems, weak bass. Designed for maximum sound quality and enhanced audio performance, the LC7i incorporates AccuBASS. This patent pending process automatically corrects for the bass roll-off that is common with many factory-installed audio systems and AudioControl's unique and exclusive AccuBASS patent pending circuitry maintains and restores the Bass as the volume is turned up, improving the audio performance.

Speaker Input: The speaker level inputs are compatible with nearly any factory stereo system, even most Bose systems. There are 3 pair of inputs that will accommodate up to 400 watts.

Channel Summing: The LC7i has the ability to sum together multiple input channels (4 or 6) from the factory source unit into 2 channels. This is handy when the factory system has multiple, actively crossed-over signals sent from the OEM source unit or amplifier(s). For example, in some vehicles there is an actively crossed-over tweeter, midrange, and woofer all in the front of the vehicle. The LC7i lets you take all of those signals and sum them together to get a high-quality, full-range, pre-amp signal without the use of any additional cables or hardware.

AutoMode Inputs: When there is no signal present at the channel 3 input, the channel 2 input automatically feeds the channel 2 and channel 3 outputs.

Output Level: The +/- 12 dB output level allows you to adjust the head unit's voltage to the top of your amp's input range; up to 8.5 volts RMS. Each of the three pair of  RCA outputs has its own level adjustment.

Auto Turn-on: The main speaker level input has a signal sensing circuit; the unit turns on when there's a speaker level input signal and turns off when the signal disappears.

Ground Isolation: The power supply ground is switchable, in case of ground loop noise. The factory position is fully isolated (typically the best choice), but can be changed to Ground or 200Ω.

Remote Output: The +12 volt DC remote output will trigger an amp to turn on whenever the LC7i is on. The remote's maximum current output is 1 amp.

Terminal Blocks: The power/ground/remote in/remote out terminal and the speaker level input terminals are removable; the wiring is attached to the block, then the block is plugged into the LC7. The terminal blocks will accommodate wire up to 12 gauge.

Optional Remote Control: Using the optional ACR-1 wired remote (161ACR1, sold separately) you can easily adjust the output level of channel 3 of the AudioControl LC7i, often used for a subwoofer. The remote is designed to be dash mounted, within reach of the driver; it can be mounted under the dash with the supplied bracket, or the bracket can be removed and the knob and LED can be custom mounted through the dash

Specifications:

  • Maximum Speaker Level Input: 400 watts (at 4Ω)
  • Maximum Output Voltage: 8.5 volts RMS
  • Frequency response: 10Hz-22kHz
  • THD: 0.01%
  • Input Impedance: 20 kΩ
  • Output Impedance: 150 Ohms

A
Greetings Matthew, and thank you for your question. We do not sell those vehicle specific wiring diagrams. If you purchased the LC7i from Crutchfield, our technical support team would acquire the vehicles color codes off the factory radio, or factory amp for you. If you have not purchased it yet, when you did, your shipping confirmation email from us will have the direct tech support number for you to phone in. There would be no extra cost to you for those with your purchase.

Q
I have a 23 telluride will this work with 2 aftermarket tweeters 4 aftermarket door speaker and 2 12 inch subs with a 4 channel amp for highs and mono for my subs?
robert  Feb 16, 2023
1 answer
A
It will depend on whether or not the vehicle has the Harman Kardon premium audio system, which would have more speaker channels than the LC7i can handle. If it is the base model audio system, then this would do nicely for your Telluride.

Q
I have the Audio Control lc4.800 amp which does most of what the lc7i does. I think. Is there a benefit to having both ? I will be using a mono block. Thank you.
delbert  Dec 29, 2022
1 answer
A
It would not be necessary to have the LC7i in this case. The LC-4.800 has the same capabilities in terms of LOC performance and AccuBASS built-in. The AccuBASS feature will also affect the line outputs of the LC-4.800, which means you can connect your mono amp there in order to take advantage of AccuBASS for your sub(s).

Q
i have a 2018 ford fusion. It does not have the sony system and has small lcd screen 4" and has two front 6.5 speakers two rear 6.5 speakers and two front tweeters. i have a 2000 watt amp and two 12 subs in a ported box. I have upgraded my door speakers and now want to add a 4 channel amp to the front and rear 6.5 speakers. i have the oem head unit. right now i have a lc2i installed. do i need to go to the lc7i to be able to run both amps and do i have to cut wires at head unit to go to the lc7i and then rca to the amp the from amp back to speaker wire at the head unit? is that the proper way to do this
robert  Nov 10, 2022
1 answer
A
It wouldn't technically be necessary to use the LC7i in order to install two amps. Most amplifiers have speaker level inputs. However, it would be preferable to use the LC7i instead as it will lead to better overall audio quality as well as improved subwoofer performance thanks to AccuBASS. The installation as you've outlined it will require cutting of wires at the head unit. This is one of several ways to approach this project. For detailed help with this project, please reach out our advisors via chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Yes you could use that with your Kia Sportage. It is not vehicle specific and there is not t-harness available with that LC7i so you would have to cut into your stock system and do some rewiring with that line output converter.

Honda accord 2018 10 channel factory premium system upgrade, How to wire all 10 channels to LC7i 6 channels? for front L&R we have seperate wires for tweeters and mids, same for the rear L&R speakers. Sub will boto sub channel

You've got a few options here, Ali. You can consider using instead either the AudioControl LC8i 8 channel unit in the first link below, or the JL Audio FiX 86 processor in the second link. Both of these units have 8 channel speaker level inputs and would work better in your Accord! The Audiocontrol is more of a manual unit, while the JL can be auto set or use a PC for deeper tuning! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC8IB/AudioControl-LC8i-Black.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13698103/JL-Audio-FiX-86.html

Will this work with 2018 Chevy Tahoe Z71 with factory Bose system and Navigation without disabling features? Wanting to start adding amps and replacing speakers. Starting with adding an amp and small sub. Reason I ask is that I heard that some of these factory systems have ANC and they have interference and noise issues when adding more speakers like an amp and sub. I'm really not sure if mine has ANC or not...

Can this be used for 4 door speakers along with factory sub as a 5th channel whwn connected to a 4 ch amp along with a sub amp for the 6th channel ?
johnnie  May 24, 2020
2 answers
A
Yes, based on you having a factory sub, you probably have factory amps, the speaker level outputs from the amps need to go to the LC7. The LC7 has 3 pairs of speaker level inputs and 6 line level outputs to go to your amps. If you don't have a factory amp, you will need to run speaker wires from the radio to the LC7. This means you will have to splice in, depending on your car you might be able to find connectors to tie in without cutting.
michael  Jun 05, 2020
A
Yes. It is has 4 channels of output for your front and rear speakers, and an output for your sub stage.

Will this work on my honda civic ex 2017 10th gen. I have add a kicker subwoofer compc and jbl speakers and an amp for subwoofer. i had added amp for the speaker but i had to take it out due to audio for phone calls would be heard from the speakers and gps audio would not work in car play. Will the lc7i allow the audio to come in the speakers?
shivam  May 18, 2020
1 answer
A
If your using the LC7 you will need an amp to power your speakers. You are changing your high level signal to a low level to used for an amp. If you can't use an amp for the speakers and still want to provide a signal for your sub amp, the LC2 might be better suited, it will provide signal to your sub woofer by splicing into your rear speakers. Your regular speakers will not be affected and you will have a signal for your sub.
michael  Jun 05, 2020
Q
Would this work with a aftermarket headunit?
jaime  Mar 19, 2020

If your aftermarket head unit has rca pre-outs (front , rear, and, subwoofer) you wouldn't need it. If you only have high level outputs (which is rare to have just those these days) you could use it, or just upgrade your head unit.

The LC7i is a processor that takes your POWERED output of your factory system and then sums and balances that output down to line level inputs to tie in full range amplifiers. So all you need to do is take the SPEAKER wires coming FROM your factory NAV unit and connect them to the matching "Speaker Level Inputs" (bottom left) of the LC7i. Front output to "Main Input", rear output to "Channel 2", and, if your Passport has a factory installed sub, then that output goes to "Channel 3". The LC7i will then connect to separate amp(s), which in turn will tie back to the speakers.

Is there any such device that can be installed into a factory radio to increase the bass of the 4 aftermarket speakers I have? I have two in the door and to in the rear deck of my 2014 Dodge Challenger rt. I also have 2 factory tweeters installed in the front left and right deck of my car.

Sorry, no. You can install a processor to provide more audio adjustments and a better EQ but you would also need to add an amplifier to accept the processed signal and power the new speakers. Another option would be to add a dedicated subwoofer to the system. I bought this in Feb. for my 2015 Ford mustang base model so it had no factory amps installed. I am not familiar with your knowledge on audio installs so i will just share everything i know so sorry if you already know it. The LC7I line output converter or any line output converter (LOC) for that matter basically ties into your factory head unit and gives you your leads to send the rca signal to your amp. Its basically the same as the LC2I Except it can control more channels. In your case with a truck that came with an amp factory installed (if i understood correctly) and using the Pac Amp Pro ap4-ty12 used for upgrading from a factory amp to something beefier you shouldnt need the LC7I. The only reason you would need this is if you were doing a full install as in replacing all speakers in your Tundra. If you were doing this you would need more RCA outputs than the Pac Amp Pro provides. My knowledge is limited but i hope this helps.

Can I use this unit for my after market amps and after market hu or does it only work with oem?

A
Yes, it will work with aftermarket amps, and both aftermarket AND OEM head units... It's also excellent at converting OEM digital systems to aftermarket analog where the use of multiple amps may be needed... I used the LC7i to convert the digital signal in my 2016 BMW X6 (F16) Harman Kardon system to analog to 3 separate multichannel and 1 mono amp, while maintaining the factory 5.1 surround sound... Sounds excellent , no problems at all...

antonio  Sep 17, 2018

Not sure what kind of vehicle you have. Mine is in my 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500. The factory Bose system turns the bass level down as you increase volume. This remedies that. If you're not going through a factory amp, I don't see the need to use it.
robert  Sep 15, 2018
A
Tho most installs with a after market hu generally do not need a line out converter you can use this 8 channel active line out converter to amplify the signal and sound to your needs. If you are going to purchase this unit I would recommend setting each channel weather it is low, miss, or highs separate so you do not clip your aftermarket amplifiers or speakers. This is a very good product and I am very very happy with the results. Hope this helps you out.

you can but any eq from the aftermarket hu will be cancelled out. the lc7i's job is to make a flat response from the oem hu eq that usually wreaks havoc on setups when the oem hu isnt replaced.

Q
I have BMW's famous Basic stereo system without an amp. It consists of 4 front speakers connected to the same front left and right channels (2 front door 4 inch speakers and 2 under seat 6.5 inch woofers, that i think are full range, And 2 rear deck high pass filtered speakers) What i need to know is what's going to give me a better output, using the same front channel for Main and Channel 2 of the device and sum them up using the summing feature, OR use Both front and rear channels and also use the summing feature? The 2 rear speakers almost seam useless because i can turn them completely off and not notice a difference from the driver's seat. Or is there a better product out there that solves this problem. (by the way, I'm trying to use a 4 channel amp to power 2 speakers using 2 channels and 1 sub using the other 2 bridged) Thanks!

I have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. I kept the factory stereo and the two dash speakers. The two dash speakers run from the factory stereo. I used dynamat on all four doors; replaced the four door speakers with focal 6.5" speakers. I have them powered by a soundstream amp. I have a JL Audio powered subwoofer with two 8" subs. I use the audiocontrol line output converter to control the sounds to the four 6.5 in the doors and use the subwoofer output to control the amp on the JL box. The audiocontrol does an outstanding job of cleaning up the sound coming from the factory stereo. The dynamat keeps the sound extremely clear. It actually is the best quality sound that I have ever heard in a car stereo system. It is not eardeafining nor does it shake the mirrors in the car, but the sound is like listening to high quality stereo headphones inside the car.

Q
Is there a harness that I can plug into my factory amp harness that will bypass the factory amp so I can use the LC7i?

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

No, you need to utilize the factory amp outputs to feed into the LC7i. That way you can sum all the channels and the LC7i will provide you F,R, and Sub pre out. Most Factory inputs into the factory amps are extremely low level and the LC7i will not detect them sometimes. Also if your system is Can-bus or data , the volume/ steering wheel controls only work at the factory amp.

I suppose it would depend on your vehicle but probably not. I ended up having to cut the speaker harness off from the back of the factory radio. My radio had two harnesses - one for power, ground, dimmer, etc. and one for the speakers so be careful which wires you cut if your radio only has one harness - you don't want to cut the power or ground wires. I spliced into the speaker harness and used 9-wire to run to the LC7i (2 wires for each speaker - front/rear). I also replaced my factory speakers so I just ran new speaker wire from the aftermarket amp to the speakers rather than trying to tie back into the factory wiring - that way I ended up bypassing the factory amp. If you decide to go this route, be sure you don't cut the wires too close to the harness so you can reconnect the factory speaker wiring in case you want to sell the vehicle and keep your audio equipment.

wouldn't it better just to get an equalizer ?

Yes, or so I thought. The LOC was an easier install because of how my 09 Acura TSX is setup. I added an equalizer afterwards, but it had to be modified to work with the system. It was done by a professional.

It would depend on the setup your using. If your running an aftermarket head unit then this will work out for you sense some pioneer decks have nice built in EQ's. If your using a stock radio but will use some of the better higher quality amps like JL audio, Rockford, Memphis that have nice but in X overs in them then I would use this just to provide a clean signal to the amps.

I had a pretty high powered EQ built into my Kenwwod touch screen so I didn't need it. I put amps on my Sub and one on my interior speakers. It sounds fantastic.

In some cases maybe but in others, no. Factory audio systems often are doing processing based upon speed, ambient noise levels, and more. This helps clean that up and makes the sound more consistent. Also, it has a number of preamp outputs to make it that much easier to install amplifiers as well as adjust the output level for it.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The terminal blocks will accommodate wire up to 12 gauge, but this device uses very little power, and you could also use just speaker wire as well. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

I'm going to run my front speakers to Channel 1 and rears to Channel 2. I understand that Channel 2 will send a sub out signal to channel 3 line out. However, will channel 2 also output line level at the same time so I can run it full range to my amp to power rear speakers? Thanks.

Yes, that is exactly how this unit functions. You can also just run a single stereo signal and it will pass that to all 3 outputs.

Yes. That's exactly what I did and it works great. I'm running all Alpine amps, front and rear speakers and a sub. Channel 3 signal to a mono amp and the front and rear signals to a 4 ch amp. The LC7i allows you to dial it in the amps perfectly. Great product.
bruce  May 01, 2015
A
Yes, channels 1 and 2 have their own low level output. In addition to these, you will have an extra low level channel that you can use for your subwoofer amplifier. You can run 5 channels out of the lc7i by only inputing 4 high levels.
