Overview

Our take on the AudioControl Overdrive Plus

AudioControl created the Overdrive Plus line driver to ensure that your amp sees the cleanest signal possible. Many modern car stereos boast 4- and 5-volt preamp outputs, but they're rated at full output. Turn your stereo to a normal listening level, send the signal through a 20-foot cable, and your amps may end up with just a couple of volts. The Overdrive Plus solves this problem by boosting the signal from your car stereo, and it also allows you to control your amp's level from the front seat with an optional remote.

Higher voltage = lower noise
The Overdrive Plus line driver boosts the signal from your receiver up to 24 dB, right up to the maximum level accepted by your amplifier or processor. The high-voltage level keeps the noise out of your system, while feeding your amps the signal they need to deliver top performance.

Easy adjustment
Once connected, the Overdrive Plus makes it easy to set the gain — LEDs indicate whether you're just inside the Overdrive Plus's minimum working range or approaching its maximum voltage without clipping the signal. Balanced inputs reject noise caused by your vehicle's electrical system, but you can switch to unbalanced operation if necessary. The Overdrive Plus's low-impedance output keeps your signal going strong through long cable runs.

Instant sound difference, gain control on amp was 3/4 up, with the line driver, almost all the way down, but hits twice as hard!!

If you don't have it installed, you are missing out on the premium sound that your amp is suppose to supply. Don't believe me, I don't care because I already have mine and experiencing optimal music from my system:')

Pros: Great product, and it is made in the USA.

Cons: Wish that I had installed it years ago...

Great Piece

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently installed an alpine swr 1043 with pdx m6 in my explorer and while it hit hard some songs were still lacking that bass I was looking for. Decided to order the overdrive line driver and as soon as I installed it and turned on my favorite songs, they hit harder than before, with nice clean bass throughout. Even songs that arent as bass heavy now had the bass I was craving. Definitely satisfied. Great piece, a must have.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an Audiocontrol crossover that I love, so when I went looking for a line driver and saw this, it was an easy choice. I'm using a Cowon MP3 player as my source and the line driver makes a huge difference in the sound and dynamics of my system, I finally feel like I am getting the best out of the rest of my components. Very highly recommended, and Crutchfield was a pleasure to deal with, as usual. I did make a suggestion that they should also stock the ACR-1 remote volume control, but in the meantime you can order that direct from Audiocontrol.

Features

Line Driver: To achieve the best possible signal to noise ratio and dynamic range from your amplifier, a line driver increases the output voltage supplied by the head unit up to 24 dB, allowing you to increase the line voltage to the top of your amp's input range; up to 9.5 volts RMS/13 volts peak.

Output Voltage Indicators: As the gain is turned up LEDs indicate the output voltage at 1 volt and 8 volts.

Ground Isolation: The power supply ground is switchable, in case of ground loop noise. The factory position is fully isolated (typically the best choice), but can be changed to Ground or 200Ω.

Terminal Block: The power/ground/remote terminal is removable; the wiring is attached to the block, then the block is plugged into the Overdrive.

Optional Remote: The RJ-14 port on the Overdrive Plus allows you to add an optional remote (item number 161ACR1, sold separately) that will give you control of the line output from your dashboard.

Specifications:

  • Frequency response: 10 Hz-100 kHz; ±1 dB
  • THD: 0.005%
  • S/Noise Ratio: >110dB
  • Input Impedance: 20 kΩ
  • Output Impedance: 45 Ω
  • Input Gain: 0-24dB
  • Power Supply: Transformer isolated PWM DC/DC converter
