Specialty Autosound N82

The dash opening this kit is made for is a different shape and size than the typical aftermarket car stereo receiver. The mounting bracket covers the "gaps" and secures your new receiver into the dash.

The kit also includes:

  • trimplate for an attractive installation
  • 30-day satisfaction guarantee

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

This kit made is possible for me to replace a non-standard factory tape player with a modern standard mount receiver. Fit and worked great.

Pros: Great fit changing entire mounting area for new receiver, making upgrade possible.

Cons: Finish plate with new rectangular hole fits fine, but is simply black color, which may not match factory - minor detail, looks fine.

Fit Fine

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Made for a clean looking installation in my 300zx dash. The stock radio in the Z fits in an odd-size frame along with the climate control & it's hard to install an aftermarket unit without considerable fabrication unless you use a kit like this. The metal frame and faceplate was on the thin side but once installed it seems to hold well and looks good. I did bend the tabs slightly different than the instructions described in order to get a tighter fit in the existing frame in the dash. Overall it did make for an easy, good looking installation of my aftermarket stereo.

Pros: Easy installation Looks good Saves a lot of fabrication work

Cons: Lightweight metal

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Found product to be as advertised. Easily installed and fit without modification. Excellent instructions. No rattles or loose fit very pleased with outcome. My receiver Kenwood KDC-X596 fit like a glove. Even the antenna switch cooperated once I remembered to plug it in. My method was to loosen all involved fittings set it up and tighten for fit, worked well for me.

Pros: Fit, finish as advertised, easy to install. Free with purchase of system.

Cons: None that I know of.

excellent fit and look.

Just what I ordered. I had bought one from J.C. Whitney. Guarenteed to fit. However no antenna switch cut-out. Rather than drill and file I went to Crutchfied.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fit and finish are excellent. Installed w/o any modifications. The original Sony XR-6500 installation (probably one of the last quality shaft mount cassette/receivers made) used the Crutchfield shaft mount version of this installation kit. It and the XR-6500 were both purchased from Crutchfield. The Sony finally gave up the ghost this Winter (right channel out) after over 20 years of service.

To my surprise and delight this DIN installation kit was in stock and was, as usual with Crutchfield, shipped promptly. Pioneer DE-P3100 CD/Receiver up and running in about 2 hours work.

There are plenty of plastic adapter kits out there. This one is all steel and the quality is apparent.

Thanks to Bill Crutchfield & Company for continuing to provide excellent products and service at a reasonable cost.

Could be better in one way

The black faceplate is great if you're just installing a single DIN unit.

However, many of the factory stereos for the Nissan 300ZX(84-89) came with an EQ. If the new metal faceplate were cut out to accomodate a single DIN unit AND a 1/2 DIN, which is what the factory stereos measure out to, then we would have the ULTIMATE aftermarket faceplate.

Got it? We need to have the option/cut out on the new faceplate, (with appropriate offset for the EQ chassis), to be a DIN and a 1/2.

Very good- but could use a small improvement

This was almost exactly what I needed for the install. The appearance and quality of fit are very good on the fascia. The antenna switch binds just a bit, but it is not a big deal, and can be easily fixed with a Dremel.

However, a bracket/ brace kit and extended 8mm screws to have the option to mount the head unit directly to the kit would have been nice. The OEM radio runs all the way t the bottom of the center stack, so I had to fabricate a mount out of metal strap and rubber to support the bottom of the radio properly with the slideout sleeve provided with the radio (DIN is shorter).
