Overview: The U81 is designed to allow easy replacement of factory speakers with select aftermarket 5-1/4 and 6-1/2 speakers. (Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.)

5-1/4 Speakers: While a 5-1/4 speaker will mount easily in this bracket given the bolt pattern, the frame of many 5-1/4s is smaller than the opening in the bracket, possibly making a 6-1/2 a better fit. When using a 5-1/4, a speaker baffle might also be needed to seal the rear of the speaker.

  • Inner Diameter: 5.007"
  • Height: 0.038"
  • Three-Hole Spacing (6-1/2): 4.787"
  • Four-Hole Spacing (5-1/4):
    • Perimeter: 3.655"-3.87"
    • Diagonal: 5.155"-5.485"

Doesn't fit '02 Honda Civic 4dr LX

Written By Frustrated Frank, Houston, TX on Friday, February 11, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I tried using these brackets to install a pair of 6 1/2" Polk db651s in the rear deck of my Civic. After an hour of trying to make them fit, i realized it just wasn't going to happen. The pre-drilled holes to attach the adaptor bracket to the speaker worked just fine, but the holes needed to attach the adaptor with the speaker to the rear deck did not line up. The outer ring of the speaker covers 1/4 to 3/4 of the hole in the adaptor. I can't even drill new holes in the bracket because there's not enough surface area available. Now i have to pay to have it professionally installed. The adaptors may work just fine for the other models it claims to fit, but I know that it definitely doesn't work for a 2001 - 2005 Honda Civic 4dr.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speaker brackets did their job and made installation much easier.

The only issues are: 1) the bracket and speaker must be aligned and there is little room for
error, just be sure everything is just right before you tighten the speaker screws, 2) the
position of the screws holding the speakers to the bracket is also critical. Position the
screws as close to the speaker as possible or you won't be able to get the speaker/bracket
assembly into the original speaker cutout in the car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This item was all wrong for the Honda Civic I was trying to install into. Someone must have made a mistake in the packing/shipping dept. The holes did not line up with the speakers at all and I ended up drilling into my cars metal deck to make the speaker fit. The supplied fasteners were useless as well. I ended using my own bolts and nuts. I was very disappointed in the difficulty of the installation process. The speakers themselves are fine.

perfect fit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These did work to adapt the 5 1/4" to the 6 1/2" sized speaker hole in the element. However - they did not really line up quite right, therefore I did not use all three screws to hold the speaker on, I had to go with using just 2 to hold the speakers in. so far, no problem. also, these are not "deburred" so be careful when handling them barehanded, you can cut yourself pretty easily with them.

Very easy

These brackets fit perfectly in my 2004 Honda Civic 4-door Sedan LX. Even with the XTC foam baffles under them they went on very well. I cut the foam to the shape of the bracket and the speaker so it made it easier to see the screw holes. I mounted the bracket first locking the foam down to the rear deck and then installed the speakers into the bracket. The bracket instructions do not necessarily give an order of installation though the picture seems to show mounting the speaker to the bracket first. This will not work as you will not be able to screw the bracket into the rear deck. It is much easier to screw the bracket down first and then screw the speaker into the bracket. This will take some time and patience but in the end works just fine.
