Our take on the Shure BETA 58A

by Ken Nail
Shure

Why a dynamic mic?

Dynamic microphones are engineered for the rigors of live performance and life on the road. Thanks to a very simple and rugged design concept that relies on few internal parts and no electronic components, they're tough, durable, and require no outboard power source to operate. Looking to outfit your church's PA system with vocal microphones? Need to mike your lead guitarist's cabinet for a big club gig? You'll find dynamic mics to fit the bill. If, however, you're looking for a recording microphone to capture sounds in exquisite detail, consider a condenser mic instead.

High output BETA Series mics

Shure has been setting the standard for audio for over 80 years. They engineered their BETA® Series mics to provide powerful output and resistance to feedback, and their rugged construction ensures they'll stand up to the tough conditions you'll find on the road.

A vocal standard

Shure 58A

The Shure 58A features a hardened steel mesh grille for protection.

Shure's BETA 58A vocal microphone is equally at home on stage or in the studio. The mic of choice for many vocal artists and touring groups, the BETA 58A features a frequency curve that's optimized for close-up performances, and boasts a supercardioid pattern that rejects outside noise. This upgraded version of the legendary Shure SM 58 was made for life on the road, with a steel mesh grille and an integrated shock system that can take some serious punishment.

    Awesome mic!
    Pros:
This mic is an awesome vocal mic especially when paired with the Monster Pro cable's. NO clicks, pop's or distortion from the mic. You can have it pointing right at the speakers and no feedback. Love this mic. Ya won't find a better one for the price, and ya definitely won't be disappointed. I love Shore microphones to me they are the best. Oh and I have had this knocked over many times and it works like new still the grill didn't even dent.
    Cons:
Not a condenser mic. I will have the best handheld Shure condenser mic one day!
