The 'DA is a great option for homes with an existing CAT-5 network, since you won't have to install any new in-wall wire. And it delivers crisp, detailed sound, even over cable runs of up to 600 feet.
How it works
You'll need to purchase two coaxial digital audio baluns to set up a fully functioning system. You can use two C5-DAs, or pair one with an in-wall model. Installation is straightforward just connect them both to your in-wall CAT-5 cable. Place one in your main room, and connect a CD/DVD changer or other digital audio source using a coaxial digital audio cable. Install the other in your remote room. Then hook it up to an A/V receiver via its coaxial digital audio input. Now you can send audio from your main room to your secondary room. The circuitry is passive so there's no need for a power supply.
What is a balun?
A balun gets its name by converting signals between balanced and unbalanced lines. Balanced cables can carry signals over much longer distances than unbalanced lines, because of their superior noise rejection. The C5-DA balun converts audio signals between balanced CAT-5 connections and unbalanced coaxial digital audio connections.

Overview: The C5-DA Cat-5 Digital Audio transformer converts a coaxial digital audio signal to and from Cat-5 twisted pair cabling. It allows you run digital audio systems over long distances using cost-effective Cat-5 cable. The C5-DA has two connectors: one RJ-45 jack for the Cat-5 cable, and a single gold-plated, RCA coaxial digital audio jack. The C5-DA is a passive unit, and does not require a power supply.
Construction: The C5-DA has a durable metal chassis and mounting wings with universal mounting holes for vertical or horizontal installation.
System Design: Two C5-DA units (or one C5-DA and one C5-DAWM) are required for the system to operate properly. The two units are connected together by Cat-5 cable, and the digital audio source and receiver are each connected to one balun via a coaxial digital cable.
