About the Niles C5-HDDAWM
If you're putting together a multi-room audio/video system that involves longer cable runs between rooms, check out the Niles C5-HDDAWM. This clever device uses durable, inexpensive CAT-5 cable to send standard- or high-definition component video and digital audio signals to another room in your house. Plus, it installs neatly in your wall for a décor-friendly look.
The 'HDDAWM is a great option for homes with an existing CAT-5 network, since you won't have to install any new in-wall wire. And it delivers crisp, detailed sound and high-def video, even over cable runs of up to 500 feet.
How it works
You'll need to purchase two baluns to set up a fully functioning system. You can use two C5-HDAAWMs, or pair one with a
small component-style model.Installation is straightforward just connect them both to in-wall CAT-5 cable, then mount them into your wall. Place one in your main room, and connect a satellite receiver, high-def disc player, or other audio/video source. Install the other in your remote room. Then hook it up to a TV and A/V receiver via its component video and coaxial digital audio jacks. Now you can send audio and video from your main room to your secondary room.
What is a balun?
A balun gets its name by converting signals between balanced and unbalanced lines. Balanced cables can carry signals over much larger distances than unbalanced lines, because of their superior noise rejection. The C5-HDDAWM balun converts audio/video signals between balanced CAT-5 connections and unbalanced component video and coaxial digital audio connections.

Features
Product Overview: The C5-HDDAWM is a transformer (Balun) to convert a CAT-5 signal to component video and coaxial digital audio, and vice versa. Typically two are used at opposite ends of the signal path; one unit converts the audio/video source to CAT-5 for transmission over a long distance, a second unit converts the CAT-5 signal back to component video and coaxial digital audio to feed the A/V system.
Mounting: The Balun is designed to fit into a single gang J-box using the included wall plate. Multiple insert plates can be mounted in larger J-boxes using Decora-style wall plates designed to cover multiple gang J-boxes.
Input/Output
Audio/Video: The four female RCA jacks on the front of the C5-HDDAWM can be used as component video and coaxial digital audio inputs and converted to CAT-5, or as an output to feed A/V components.
CAT-5: The RJ-45 jack on the back of the unit can be used as an input and converted to component video and coaxial digital audio, or as an output to feed the network.

It couldn't be easier to use Niles baluns (not just this one). They require no more effort than a standard outlet box and look great.
