About the Niles GSS10
Deep, rich bass that disappears into the landscape
Deep, rich bass that disappears into the landscape
Try as they might, most outdoor speakers can't deliver the music's lowest tones. That's why Niles offers the GSS10 in-ground subwoofer. This 10" sub is designed to be buried 16"-18" under ground, leaving only its output port tube exposed. You'll get excellent bass performance over a broad area so your music system delivers full sound. The Niles GSS10 is made from industrial strength uPVC, the same type of material used in underground irrigation systems. The tube and its dome cover can be painted to match any environment. Its tough design is covered by Niles' limited lifetime warranty.
Separate amp required
The GSS10 has no built-in amplification or crossover, so it requires Niles' matching SWA500M amplifier. (The amp must be placed indoors.)

Features
Overview: The Niles Audio GSS10 Garden In-Ground Subwoofer is designed to deliver powerful bass to extended outdoor listening areas. It is a natural complement to the Niles Audio GS4 Garden Satellite Speakers, or can enhance most any outdoor speaker system. The woofer enclosure is buried underground with only the bass port tube visible above ground. It is completely weatherproof, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
Construction: The GSS10 is constructed from industrial strength uPVC, which is used in modern underground plumbing and irrigation systems. The bandpass enclosure is cylindrical with the port tube extending from one end. The port tube is fully paintable to blend into your landscaping. It fastens to the enclosure with 8 Hex-head screws (supplied). In addition to being weatherproof, the enclosure and port tube can withstand temperature extremes of -50°F to 185°F.
Driver: The GSS10 features a passive 10" Mineral-filled Polypropylene cone woofer. It is designed to be used with a subwoofer amplifier, such as the Niles SWA-500M. Bass management should be applied to the speaker at the amplifier, as there is no crossover or other filters on the subwoofer. Other specifications include:
- Recommended Amplifier Power: 50-500 watts
- Frequency Response: 25 Hz to 110 Hz
- Maximum SPL: 110dB
- Impedance: 8 ohms nominal, 6 ohms minimum
In-Ground Installation: Once assembled, the subwoofer is ready for installation. The enclosure requires a hole approximately 14" wide, 30" long, and 16-18" deep. Placement near walls and corners will enhance the bass output. Burial-rated speaker wire should be run from the amplifier to the subwoofer location. Waterproof wire nuts are included for splicing on your own speaker wire. The recommended gauge of the speaker wire is determined by the maximum length needed:
Wire Gauge | Maximum Distance |
---|---|
16 | 100 feet |
14 | 150 feet |
12 | 200 feet |
