Building a multi-room audio system? The Niles HPS-4 lets you send music from a single amplifier or receiver to four pairs of speakers throughout your home, and gives you independent on/off control of each pair. Selectable impedance-magnifying circuitry prevents damage to your receiver or amp, even when you're driving all four pairs at once.Details:
Just what I needed for larger gauge wire
Do not skimp on this very important piece of audio equipment. I have a high-powered Onkyo integrated amplifier for my home stereo system. Whether it be a system like this; or a multi-media home entertainment system, you definitely need a speaker selector if you run more than one pair of speakers. Myself, I have four pairs of speakers; and I tried to get by without a speaker selector. With poor results, to say the least. It's obvious this "Niles" brand is built to last. It has a TEN year manufacturers warranty. Which says it all right there. It also helps to protect the amp, with its built in circuitry.
Pros: A very clever way to hook up speaker wires. I use 14 gauge speaker wire. Hookup between the speakers and the amp was simple and quick.
Cons: I only wish that I would have gotten the "Niles" selector with built in volume controls for each speaker.
Excellent product. Fully up to spec and very well built. Detachable speaker wire connectors are a real joy to work with. Wires are even more secure if the tips are tinned but that's not necessary at all.
Construction: The chassis is component-sized (17" wide) and made from durable black metal with padded feet.
Speaker Switches: Each set of speaker outputs has an on/off switch so any combination of connected speakers can be played at any given time.
Protection Switch: The impedance protection switch on the front of the unit safeguards the receiver or amplifier even when all 4 pairs of speakers are playing (4 pairs of 8-ohm speakers will present a 4.5-ohm load to the receiver or amplifier).
Note: You will need to activate the "Protection" switch whenever the overall system impedance might fall below 4 ohms. It is recommended to verify that the receiver or amplifier is capable of driving a 4-ohm load.
Constant Protection: This speaker selector is equipped with a manual override for the protection circuit that enables you to defeat the front panel protection switch and maintain constant impedance protection. This will safeguard your amplifier from being overdriven due to accidental or improper use.
Removable Speaker Terminals: There are four removable speaker output terminal blocks and one removable speaker input terminal block. These connectors make it easier to wire the speakers to the selector. Each terminal block can accommodate up to 12 gauge wire.
Labels: Included are 72 pre printed and 6 blank label stickers for easy identification of the front panel controls.
