Fresh tunes in the fresh air

Your enjoyment of music doesn't have to stop the moment you step outside your home. That's why Niles put their custom audio expertise into all-weather speakers like the OS5.3. It boasts a 5” mica-filled polypropylene woofer with a rigid design to reduce bass break-up. Its patent-pending integrated baffle assembly increases the cone area for better low-frequency punch from a compact enclosure. The 1” fluid-cooled UltraSilk® dome tweeter delivers clear, detailed highs across a wide listening area.

These speakers can stand out in the open or be tucked discreetly in corners or under eaves with their integrated mounting brackets. A tough weather-proof design means they'll deliver great performance for years and years. Plus they're covered by Niles' limited lifetime warranty.

GREAT sounding outdoor speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding speaker and super build quality. I am very impressed. I wasn't expecting much for bass, and they don't have much. But they project awesome and you can hear them a long ways away.

Pros: Loud, project well, build quality

Cons: Not much bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great. The clarity at all volume levels is very good, even outside in an open space. The only thing that is lacking at all is bass, but I didn't expect mind blowing bass from this size speaker, nor do I need it on my patio.

Pros: Excellent clarity, mids, and highs

Cons: Slightly lacking in bass

Great Little Speaker

Written by: Joe from Somers, NY on May 14, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At first, I was concerned about the size of the speaker and what type of sound it could produce. My concerns prived to be misplaced. I have this hooked up to a speaker selector, which is powered by Zone 2 of my Onkyo receiver. These little guys pump and produce a clean and crisp sound, despite coming from a selector (even with other speakers being used at the same time). Would purcahse again in a heartbeat. Plus, they are small, unobtrusive and pleasing to the eye.

Pros: Loud, crisp, cost effective.

Cons: None.

Niles OS5.3 - Great Value

Written by: PaulW from Houston, TX on June 19, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were recommended by the Sales Consultant and I am very happy with the recommendation. Placed them under my patio facing our pool and the sound quality is more than I expected. Great highs and the bass is even better than what I want I thought it would be. These speakers are a great value for the money.

Pros: Sound quality and affordability and easy to install.

Cons: None

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds much better than we expected in an open air patio area!

Pros: Great sound in a relatively compact and unobtrusive package.

Cons: Bias for wire lead in angle is a little annoying. Expectation is wire will come from the bottom of the speaker which makes wires lead outward more than needed in alternate installations.

Product Research

Overview: The Niles Audio OS5.3 indoor/outdoor speakers are designed for outdoor installations, or for use indoors. They come with an integrated mounting bracket for outdoor installations, and a shelf stand for placement on a bookshelf. These high performance speakers are housed in weatherproof enclosures that can handle extreme hot, cold, and moist environments.

Note: The Niles Audio OS5.3 is packaged as a pair.

Drivers: Each OS5.3 features a 5" Mica-filled Polypropylene cone woofer and a 1" Ultrasilk dome tweeter. The integrated woofer/baffle design increases the cone area, which enhances the low frequency response. The butyl rubber woofer surround helps damp resonance and provides exceptional durability. The fluid-cooled tweeter has an ultra-wide dispersion pattern to give you clear, detailed high frequencies.

Paintable: The OS5.3 speakers and removable grilles can be painted to match your décor. Each speaker includes a clear plastic paint mask let you cover the drivers while the paint is applied to the enclosure.

Weatherproof: Niles Audio OS speakers are designed to exceed the military's strict specifications for preventing corrosion (MIL-STD-883D).

Speaker Terminals: The OS5.3 is equipped with a pair of inverted 5-way binding post terminals, which repel moisture. The terminals can accept up to 12-gauge bare speaker wire, pin connectors, spade lugs, and dual and single banana plugs. For wire runs of less than 80 feet, 16- to 18-gauge wire is recommended. You should use 14-gauge wire for runs of 80-200 feet, and 12-gauge wire for runs over 200 feet.

Installation: The speakers can be mounted vertically or horizontally with the integrated bracket, which attaches to the speaker on the top and bottom with easy-to-remove screw knobs. The bracket has a variety of holes for permanent installation by screws or nails. There are also two keyhole slots for easy removal, if desired. The bracket also has a hole for passing through the speaker wire. There is a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back for use with 3rd party wall mount brackets.

Shelf Stand: For shelf placement, the OS5.3 comes with a 3-point shelf stand. After removing the bracket, the stand can be secured to the speaker by the bottom screw knob. The shelf stand adds approximately 5/8" to the overall height of the speaker.
