Niles Audio lets you take your favorite tunes outside with a great lineup of outdoor speakers. Years of custom audio expertise go into their all-weather OS6.5. It features a 6" interlaced carbon fiber woofer with a rigid design to reduce bass break-up. Its patent-pending integrated baffle assembly increases the cone area for better low-frequency punch from a compact enclosure. The 1" fluid-cooled Teteron® dome tweeter delivers clear, detailed highs across a wide listening area.

These speakers can stand out in the open or be tucked discreetly in corners or under eaves with their integrated mounting brackets. A tough weather-proof design means they'll deliver great performance for years and years. Plus they're covered by Niles' limited lifetime warranty.

Fine small speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I selected these speakers for the cockpit of my trawler. They have terrific sound when located at the transom. I liked them so much that I purchased two more for the saloon. That installation in the saloon was more difficult as windows were in the wrong places. Added a subwoofer and the sound is fantastic.

Pros: Attractive, weatherproof, good sound

Cons: No longer available at Crutchfield

Quality box speqkers

Five stars. Very well made and attractive plastic speaker enclosure. Sound is very nicely dispersed. Remarkable bass for a small speaker. The sound in the cockpit of my trawler is excellent. Speakers were mounted in the transom facing the cabin, the reflections filled the space very well.

Pros: Excellent quality, great sound, modest price.

Cons: None

Sound better than my Bose

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

From the packaging, the craftsmanship the looks to the reason for the purchase, the sound--- this product is impressive. The price could not be beat and the reputation of the vendor crutch field unsurpassed. I've owned Bose in the past and these speakers can take it all. Crank it up and it delivers. I only purchased two but I plan on buying two more. You cannot go wrong with these and I highly recommend them.

Pros: Everything about them but most importantly the sound. They can handle the volume and you hear every instrument on songs that I never heard before on my Bose.

Cons: None

Great speakers at a great price. will most likely buy another 4 for the other boat. Easy install, look great, but most of all sound phenomenal. The true test will be durability.

Pros: see above

Cons: none noted

These are great speakers that are replacing my Niles OS-10s which are 20 years old. The Crutchfield sale price and free shipping made this a very good purchase. (I also like the biodegradable packing peanuts!)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have only installed 1 so far, but I am happy with the sound production at high and low volumes. More than ok with the bass, as it is outside after all. Hope these last for many years to come.

Pros: Well made. Good sound

Cons: Could be a little bit better looking for installs not under eaves in the open.

Product Research

Overview: The Niles Audio OS6.5 indoor/outdoor speakers are designed for outdoor installations, or for use indoors. They come with an integrated mounting bracket for outdoor installations, and a shelf stand for placement on a bookshelf. These high performance speakers are housed in weatherproof enclosures that can handle extreme hot, cold, and moist environments.

Note: The Niles Audio OS6.5 is packaged as a pair.

Drivers: Each OS6.5 features a 6" Carbon-weave polypropylene cone woofer and a 1" Teteron dome tweeter. The integrated woofer/baffle design increases the cone area, which enhances the low frequency response. The butyl rubber woofer surround helps damp resonance and provides exceptional durability. The fluid-cooled tweeter has an ultra-wide dispersion pattern to give you clear, detailed high frequencies.

Paintable: The OS6.5 speakers and removable grilles can be painted to match your décor. Each speaker includes a clear plastic paint mask let you cover the drivers while the paint is applied to the enclosure.

Weatherproof: Niles Audio OS speakers are designed to exceed the military's strict specifications for preventing corrosion (MIL-STD-883D).

Speaker Terminals: The OS6.5 is equipped with a pair of inverted 5-way binding post terminals, which repel moisture. The terminals can accept up to 12-gauge bare speaker wire, pin connectors, spade lugs, and dual and single banana plugs. For wire runs of less than 80 feet, 16- to 18-gauge wire is recommended. You should use 14-gauge wire for runs of 80-200 feet, and 12-gauge wire for runs over 200 feet.

Installation: The speakers can be mounted vertically or horizontally with the integrated bracket, which attaches to the speaker on the top and bottom with easy-to-remove screw knobs. The bracket has a variety of holes for permanent installation by screws or nails. There are also two keyhole slots for easy removal, if desired. The bracket also has a hole for passing through the speaker wire. There is a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back for use with 3rd party wall mount brackets.

Shelf Stand: For shelf placement, the OS6.5 comes with a 3-point shelf stand. After removing the bracket, the stand can be secured to the speaker by the bottom screw knob. The shelf stand adds approximately 3/8" to the overall height of the speaker.
