Speaker Switches: Each set of speaker outputs has an on/off switch so any combination of connected speakers can be played at any given time. Removable Speaker Terminals: There are six removable speaker output terminal blocks and one removable speaker input terminal block. The blocks are removable, making it easier to wire the SSVC-6 into your system, and the blocks accept 14 to 22 gauge wire. Protection Circuitry: The left and right channel ground returns are isolated to make the unit compatible with all types of amplifiers. The impedance magnification switch on the rear of the unit offers settings for up to six pair of speakers so the impedance load presented to the amplifier remains constant. Volume Controls: The volume controls use autoformers instead of L-pads to minimize power loss and heat production. Each volume control uses a 12 position rotary knob with "pop-free" switching and 54dB total attenuation. Labels: Included are 72 pre printed label stickers for easy identification of the front panel controls. Specifications Specifications: Frequency Response: 20-20kHz +/-1.2 dB Power Handling: 100 watts per channel RMS at 8 ohms Product Reviews Review this product Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences about this product. It provided the needed amperage to the four sets of speakers we used with room for 2 additional. 1 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Niles SSVC-6 Written By Glenn, Atlanta, GA on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 Running 5 zones in house off of an old Yamaha receiver. Set-up was tedious with screw-in wire connectors, but that allows you to change the sequence of the speaker terminals later without un-doing anything (just un-plug & re-plug blocks into the desired terminal). Sound is solid, even with no amplifier on 6-yr old low-end receiver. Drawbacks (2) are minor - first is the price which seems excessive even though the unit appears built to last. second is the lack of range on the volume selectors and the adjustability is limited to "clicks" instead of fine tuning. Overall a solid piece of equipment that allows for easy push button zone selection. Crutchfiled experience was excellent (as usual). 11 out of 11 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Does exactly what it is supposed to do Written By wguiot, Tucson, AZ on Monday, April 21, 2008 I installed 2 of Niles speaker selectors for my house. I have installed 12 pairs of speakers and needed to select among them and adjust the volume appropriately. I have since installed 5 more speaker pairs, and just ordered a 3rd of these Niles. The product features a high quality construction. They are built like a tank. The volume knobs are sturdy. No hiss, no noise, no cracking. I'm very impressed. I think the ultimate test for a speaker selector is to turn on a single pair, and start turning the others one at a time. Since the Niles automatically adjusts the impendence as you add more speakers, you can't even hear volume variations on the first pair you had on. That is a testament to how smoothly it performs the transitions from 1 pair to all 6. That smoothness is what your amp needs to be protected. I personally like the screw-in terminal. When you are dealing with 18 pairs of speaker, you need to be able to take your time and space screwing in the wires and ensure there are no exposed wires. Then, the terminal plugs in perfectly on the back on the Niles. At that point the space and visibility can be limited, but you know it is plugged in correctly (the connectors are keyed so that they can't go in backwards), and the wires are secured in place. I set up my Niles to have all the speaker volumes 2 positions below the maximum. That allows room to increase the volume 2 notches in places I want to be louder (by the pool, or garage), without sacrificing quality. 8 out of 8 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Niles delivers decent speaker distribution Written By david, West Chester, PA on Wednesday, June 07, 2006 I found this product very easy to install. What do you expect hooking up 6 pairs of speakers and 1 set to the amp.I have it distributed to 6 rooms on main floor including kitchen, dining, family, playroom, gameroom and office. I use in-wall Polk speakers. Its great to be able to set each individual room with a default starting sound level. Additionally any room can be turned off/on in any combination. I have a low-end Sony receiver as my sound source and it integrates nicely.I found the music delivered via the Niles box was clear and covered a wide spectrum. Bass was lacking but I expected that with smaller in-wall speakers. What is it lacking...No remote control capabilities at all on the unit but that can be suplemented by the receiver/amp that will be connected to it. Wire guage was difficult to get into adapters - switched down one grade and it was easy to insert and screw. No bass/treble controls.I recommend this unit for anyone looking for simple speaker distribution with above average sound and ease of implementation. Its not going to set any artist on fire but delivers as expected. 18 out of 19 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 1 out of 5 Not for Audiophiles Written By Charles, Southern California on Friday, November 11, 2005 The Niles SSVC-6 touts undistorted signal division for up to 6 pairs of speakers. Despite its rather tedious speaker-wire connection set-up, I decided to try it, based on the encouraging spec sheet. However, I was very disappointed by the flat, muted signal it actually transmitted. Even after reducing connections to one speaker pair, I was unable to get the SSVC-6 to produce a better signal. Increasing the volume (or signal feed) only made it louder, but still flat and two-dimensional. It was a relief to disconnect it and hear full, three-dimensional sound from my speakers once again. Especially for the price, this device is a big disappointment. Audiophiles beware. 114 out of 132 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
