Our take on the Kicker iKICK iK500

Place your iPod in the Kicker iK500 powered speaker system's dock and crank it up. Its stereo speakers use 40 watts of total power and separate woofers and tweeters to slam out big, brawny sound. And the six-inch square passive radiator in the back reinforces low frequencies to give the bass real punch.

Grab the provided remote to control the system and operate basic functions on your iPod, such as play, pause, and track skip. Use the iK500's auxiliary input to hook up another audio source, such as a portable CD player or MP3 player. A line-level stereo output lets you connect the iK500 to another audio system, such as your home theater.

Features

Overview: The Kicker iK500 is a digital stereo audio system designed specifically for use with the Apple iPod. It has a standard iPod dock connector in the front, and a variety of dock adapters to fit virtually any dockable iPod model. Older non-dockable iPods and other music sources can be connected to the system through a 3.5mm mini-jack auxiliary input. The iKICK plays your iPod music files over high-quality stereo speakers, driven by a powerful stereo amplifier with digital signal processing.

Speaker System: The iK500 is equipped with two 2-way speakers and a square passive radiator. It features dual 5" full-range Kicker drivers, and 3/4" silk dome tweeters. On the back of the unit is a 6" square passive radiator to add a punchy low frequency response.

Amplifier: The 2-way speakers are driven by a powerful 20 watts per channel stereo amplifier. Digital signal processing allows you to adjust the audio to suit your tastes. You can independently adjust the bass and treble from -9 to +9, using the front panel's sole rotary control or the supplied remote control.

iPod Dock: The iK500 is "Made for iPod/iPhone compatible" and supports the following iPod/iPhone model functions (Dec. 2009).

iPod/iPhone Model Media Type  Control Display Charge

3G Y N Y Y N N Y
3GS Y N Y Y N N Y

Note: The iPhone (2G/3G/3GS) should be placed in "Airplane" mode. Apple firmware updates may change functionality results.

Charging The iPod: The iK500 will charge a docked iPod's battery, as long as the unit is plugged into an AC power outlet. In Standby mode, the iK500 will be powered down, but the iPod will continue to charge.

Note: The 3rd generation iPods (the first iPods with the dock connector, released July 2002) are compatible with the iK500, but will not charge while docked or respond to remote control playback functions.

Remote Control: The iK500 includes a credit card-sized wireless remote control (3-3/4" L x 2" W x 5/16" H) for control of your iPod as well as the music system. The 10-button remote lets you adjust the system's volume up and down, as well as mute, power, menu, bass and treble. iPod controls include Play/pause, Skip Forward/Backward, Fast Forward/Rewind, menu, up/down navigation within the menu, and make selections inside the iPod menu.

On-board Control: The iK500 features a single rotary knob, which turns to control volume and adjust menu parameters, presses to cycle through the menu selections, and turns on/off when pressed and held. Just above the rotary control is an LCD display to indicate volume, bass and treble values, and aux input status.

Note: When the iK500 is powered on or off with the rotary knob or remote control, the iPod is also turned on or off.

Auxiliary Input: The unit is equipped with a 3.5mm mini-jack auxiliary input on the rear panel, allowing you to plug in a second source device. You must activate the aux input through the rotary control in order to listen to the auxiliary unit. While the aux input is activated, iPod control and audio are disabled.

Line Output: A pair of RCA jacks are provided on the back panel to allow you to connect your iK500 to another powered speaker system or home stereo system.

KICKER ROCKS

Written By , Maui, HI on Friday, January 20, 2012

The most awesome portable boombox that I ever owned. The loudest too, even my ears hurt after a day. I use it on my job in the truck as a delivery person.
Pros:
Very clear, pounding bass, love the remote control. At $127 (open box) can't beat it.
Cons:
Almost everytime I start my truck up the power goes off, but its really the trucks ignition cutting off power. If it had a rechargeable battery then it would be great.

Kicker beats Bose!!

Written By Alan, Lewisburg,OH on Saturday, January 30, 2010

Just opened up my new Kicker ik500 today. I've had it on for about and hour and can't seem to shut it off. I love it!! It sounds amamzing. My college roommate has the new Bose sound dock II and I personally think the Kicker blows it out of the water. It sounds alot better to me and has quite a bit more bass. If you're looking for an ipod sound dock, this is the one to buy. You will not be disappointed. I can see why alot of the reviews I read on here said people were returning their Bose sound dock and buying the Kicker!! I couldn't beat the price on the Kicker either. Crutchfield gave a sweet deal and I couldn't refuse. Thanks Crutchfield!!

Great sounding ipod dock!!!

Written By Adam, Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I remember about 12 years ago when i was a huge Kicker fan. I spent alot of money on there car audio products but later became a huge JL Audio fan. I have always looked at car audio/home audio products as I don't care who makes it because I know what sounds good and what dosen't. Back in my car stereo days I took 2nd place in the Daytona Spring Break Nationals for sound quality with Kicker speakers and amps in my old truck. I tried the infamous Bose Sounddock and was quickly disappointed. Bose would rather use Sound Processing vrs a decent set of speakers in any of there products. The Sounddock lacks lows and highs. The iK500 really delivers great sound. It has separate Bass and Treble controls, an aux jack, and a set of preouts. I also bought mine on sale so it was half the price of the Bose. As far as the comment that i saw with the distortion i really don't know what that person was hearing. Maybe they need a new ipod. This bad boy is loud and clear. In fact it is so loud that when I took it out of the box and played it on my counter it was rattling a cookie tray in one of my cabinets!!! The construction of the IK500 is very solid feeling and it has some weight to it like there's actually something inside unlike the Sounddock. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

LOVE IT!!! BLOWS BOSE AWAY!!!

Written By sconley, Harrisonburg, VA on Monday, January 04, 2010

Originally went to crutchfield to buy this, stupidly bought the Bose doundock II instead.
Hated the Bose, returned it after a few days, (thanks crutchfield for a great return policy),
and bought the ik500. WOW!!! Always loved kicker subs, should have known this would
be great too. Great bass, great highs and LOUD!!!! Snug, secure fit in the dock (unlike
the Bose which was flimsy). Also has treb. and bass controls on the dock. This blows
the Bose out of the water. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!

Kicker Rocks

Written By 5150, Naugatuck,CT on Tuesday, December 15, 2009

I have a Kicker Bass in my truck hooked up to my cd system since 1998 & have had no problems at all so thats why since June 2009 I've been looking at and reviewing different ipod speaker docks & came across the IK500. You can't beat this price anywhere. The sound is awesome & I only crank it to around 11 and I believe it gos to 40. The separate treble & bass controls are great to set your music to how you like it. I listen to a little of everything accept RAP & the sound is awesome. Everything else is described in the overview for this ipod dock. If your looking just for an ipod dock no clock, radio, etc.... THIS IS THE # ONE DOCK!!!

worth its weight in gold

Written By , hollywood, MD on Thursday, December 03, 2009

this is simply the best ipod dock i have ever heard. i work in an aircraft hangar that is over 100 thousand sq feet and it had the whole hangar rockin. my friend has the bose sound dock and this one puts it to shame when it comes to volume. it is also crystal clear at all levels. it sounds better than systems twice its size, and thats coming from a very picky audiophile. you will not be disapointed
