Kicker

Our take on the Kicker Solo Classic 09S10C4

Kick it old school with the Kicker Solo Classic 09S10C4 10" subwoofer, which combines the timeless design of the original round Solo-Baric subs with new technology and materials. The Solo Classic uses the SoloKon™ one-piece cone and other innovations to deliver reliable performance that lives up to the Kicker name. Best of all, this sub works best in a very small sealed enclosure, so it's a great candidate for compact cars and other space-challenged vehicles.

The SoloKon cone uses a one-piece, polypropylene design for exceptional rigidity and accurate response, and the ribbed rubber surround maintains control over cone travel. The stamped steel basket, stitched surround, and spring-loaded terminals made the original Solo-Baric an instant smash the first time around, so Kicker incorporates them into the Solo Classic for durability and hard-hitting bass that won't give up.

The sub's high-temperature, dual 4-ohm voice coils will withstand the stress of your music's demands — they allow you to wire the sub for 2-ohm impedance to draw maximum power from your amp, or for 8 ohms in a multi-sub system. Combine the Solo Classic with a small sealed enclosure, a compatible amp and some wiring, and get back to the fundamentals of great bass.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most 2-channel car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation. Most mono amps are stable down to 2 ohms.

Highlights:

  • 10" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
  • one-piece polypropylene cone
  • ribbed rubber surround
  • power handling: 100-450 watts RMS (225 watts per coil)
  • 900 watts peak power handling
  • frequency response: 24-100 Hz
  • sensitivity: 86.2 dB
  • top-mount depth: 5-3/4"
  • sealed box volume: 0.66 cubic feet
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4ohm load.

Cone Material: The SoloKon design is a unique one-piece construction, using polypropylene material that moves as a lightweight piston, for improved control. The cone remains rigid, minimizing cone flex and distortion.

Surround: The tough, flexible rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible, even in the harshest conditions.

Basket Assembly: The SoloClassic utilizes a high strength stamped steel basket which features a low-profile open design and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly.

Dual Voice Coil: The dual voice coils sustain enormous cone excursion and provide flexible impedance matching options. The high-temperature Polyimide Film Voice Coil former improves sonic and conducive properties, and prevents thermal-electrical meltdown.

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet from chipping or breaking during installation. If the boot is removed, the magnet diameter is 6.131 inches.

Speaker Terminals: The terminals are spring loaded and nickel-plated for solid connections with heavy gauge speaker wire. The terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, of bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker SoloClassic woofers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: Kicker recommends mounting the SoloClassic 10" woofer only in a sealed enclosure; volume 0.66 cubic feet.

This is one impressive 10'' subwoofer. I am running a Pioneer AVH-P3300BT head unit and a Sound OrdnanceT Bass Bunker Sealed single 10" subwoofer enclosure (Model BB10-50S) (0.54) cubic feet with an MTX JackHammer JH805 (37.5W x 4 & 250W x 1) (500 watts x 1 at 2 ohms) Car Amplifier. Running sub off sub channel at 2 ohms, 500 watts RMS.

I was slightly worried I wouldn't be able to hear it through my back seats when mounted in trunk of my '09 Impreza 4 door. It isn't even broken in yet and if I turn it up, it just about shakes my rear view mirror off. I turn it to about half volume on the remote knob of the amp, with 4v selected on the gain setting on the amp with just a little bit of the bass ''boost'' knob - about 5 degrees rotation or less, crossed over at 63hz on the 3300BT. It is so clean and smooth and powerful. It sounds ''accurate'' to my ears. I was just hoping for a little bass to fill out my front and rear 6.5'' polk db651s door speakers.. but this sub and amp combo is capable of completely overpowering those speakers. It's loud enough to irritate your neighbors if you crank it up.

I just adjust it for nice even bass at moderate levels and I couldn't be happier. For being in that VERY small enclosure, the sound is even more impressive, it sounds like it's coming from a much larger enclosure. Such a great little sub.
Pros:
Everything- The price, the quality, the size, the sound, the power handling. I think it looks cook in person too.
Cons:
Nothing.

Better then expected!!

Written By Joe, Orlando, FL on Sunday, May 03, 2009

I replaced 2 ten inch woofers of another brand with one ten inch Solo Classic expecting to lose a little, but actually gained more sound and detail over my previouse set up. The music quality is un real and the low sound floods my Ford Ranger with bass that I have never imagined from one sub. I have a 750 watt Kicker amp and a custom built box that is only .59 cubic feet internaly, because of space issues I had to use the sub inverted which thankfully looks pretty cool because of the all well known Solo Baric sticker on the back of the magnet. I have been involved in numerouse SPL competitions in the past and can't wait to see what this little beast does on a meter! If you are looking for rock solid lows acompanied by good quality sound, do yourself a favor and get one!

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
